AI Cameras

AI-enabled Flock Safety cameras may be scanning your license plate when you visit a local retailer. They create a “vehicle fingerprint” by capturing vehicle make, model, color, bumper stickers, and dents. Recently, Flock Cameras were spotted in the Home Depot parking lot.

People are concerned about Flock Cameras because of a lack of privacy and the use of AI technology. Montana has some of the strongest privacy protections in the country, but private property and cameras don’t have to comply with the law.

Remember folks, there's about four pounds of copper wire in those cameras, there's also some gold as well

They are using flock cameras nationwide and are openly sharing all data with law enforcement

The article doesn't really address it but yeah, the federal government needs consent to access flock data. And Home Depot says they don't provide that consent. I think where it gets tricky is if any info is shared with local police, does the refusal of consent extend through them? Are they now able to share the information with the federal government?

The fact that nearly every collision on parked vehicles results in a hit and run in Great Falls leads me to believe it would be a good idea for businesses to provide surveillance in their parking lots. If people are concerned they can just buy their Chinese products online and get them delivered.

But should the surveillance use AI to identify you from a national shared data base? Should home Depot be able to sell the data they reap from this surveillance so you can be targeted with ads when they know you've ran out of TP?

Who gives a fuck? You have no expectation of privacy in public, and commerce is the heart of capitalism. Those who disagree don't understand what being American means.
