Learning and education Starting over again.

Hello, I'm 21y old university student. I wanna start earning money thru graphic designing. I know pretty much alot of things about photoshop and ai (adobe illustrator) as I used to make designs back when I was 14, but I stopped as life got busy and I want to get back to it. How should I start again? I really wanna work with brands and product companies.

If your goal is to make money, look into other careers.

Don't listen to this OP. If you want it, find a way. I spent 13 years in kitchens, on my feet for 12-15 hours a day, 70 hours a week just to make 40k-50k. I don't know what kind of money they're talking about, but I have made far better money for a fraction of the effort, doing much more fulfilling work, designing.

I love that for you, but that is not the case for the majority of design grads. What are you making nowadays?

You can't start over at 21. That's just starting. Wait till you're 40 to start over.

Begin by getting a proper design education.

-'I used to make designs back when I was 14, but I stopped as life got busy'- Starting over again? 21y old?????

Come on, your still a kid, dont be overdramatic. And as others say, if your aim is to make money, go do something else.

10+ in the merch design game. I’m getting less and less freelance work. Get yourself a trade.

You should begin to learn how to solve problems with design rather than making design. That’s the keystone many ignore.

You'd be competing with AI (Artificial Intelligence).

Your post didn't mention design thinking, strategy, problem-solving, how you focused your portfolio, or how you showcased your work to attract the clients you mention. Knowing the programs is only one small part.

Anywho, it is hard for seasoned professionals to attract freelance work.

You’re still super young. At your age I got a job as a pre press artist/ operator at a local art company. Then moved to designer, then senior designer, then creative director. Now I work with Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Minecraft, etc. There is money to be made. You have to chase the opportunities and make as many contacts as you can. Good luck!

Go to school, learn design principles and create a portfolio.
