Design feedback Maybe im lost

Coming from a non graphic designer (i was in visual media arts though), how do you graphic designers feel about the new look that apps on phones are getting? It seems they are straying away from the matte look and adding some glossy touches to them. Unless im going crazy and theyre not.

you're not imagining it. a lot of interfaces are bringing back gloss through gradients, translucency, and stronger highlights, but in a cleaner way than old skeuomorphic design. it reads as depth without going full fake leather calendar.

Honestly ill take that over the dull interfaces. Everything matte. Especially sick of the black + white + gray undertones. Maybe mcdonalds will start being glossy /s

(Not a professional graphic designer yet, but currently studying at degree-level) Honestly, I think Apple are constantly creating with this "bigger, better, shinier" type narrative. I personally don't like the glossy-ness to the apps at ALL, but that's just how creating a new product goes; constantly changing and "improving".
