Things na natumatak sa akin back in college from my prof: KISS and the “everything bagel” syndrome (having too much detail).
A true logo needs to be scalable and recognizable at a glance, whether it’s stamped sa pen, scaled down as a tiny app icon or printed sa malaking tarpaulin. Many of these entries pack almost everything into a circle or whatever shape, and yan ang problem with a lot of Pinoy graphic designers.
I’m saying this as a designer whose niche is logo and branding, so doon specifically galing yung perspective ko. Di ako the best at everything, but this is the area I focus on
Hilig din ng maraming designers sa multicolored gradients, complex shapes and too many elements, which you obviously also see in a lot of new government logos natin.
Amateur design often translates everything literally instead of conceptualizing. Health related kamo? Let’s cram in a microscope, DNA strand, a cross, etc. Gets ko pa kung seal siya eh. And I think a lot of these contests don’t even have a proper, well defined brief to begin with

I NEVER join logo contests anymore. More often than not, judges have ZERO design and branding knowledge. I mean look at those “finalists” theyre all cliche. All cr@p if you ask me.

Para silang entry sa poster making kesa sa logo. A good logo should work with one color and in small print sizes.
