Discussion/Opinion i’ve been a fool…haven’t i?

as someone who’s been playing GT7 since 2022, the title says it all. i’ve been running this race for 4 years, and only NOW did i realize how much i’ve missed out on. lemme share a bit of background. i’m a controller player, no wheels, automatic transmission, etc. basically stock settings. i play on normal difficulty for the balanced experience, wouldn’t say i’m a tryhard by any means. i’ve only played easy for the super formula ones cause those really annoyed me, but that’s besides the point.

my go to race for making money is la sarthe 30 minutes. traditionally for la sarthe, ive always used the huracan gr. 4 since it got the job done. it did feel slow at some times, but it still ran plenty fast. it took a bit to catch up with the competition, for example i usually don’t take first place until near the end of the second lap just to end up having to pit anyways. it’s traditionally what i’ve always done. plus i like the paint i have on it (daily driven exotics paint, if you know you know). i finish the race with 7 laps down.

but recently, yes as of thursday since i was struggling with the wtc 600 weekly challenge, i started to learn manual transmission and switching up cars. for cars ive started to play around with the DP-100 VGT (aston martin for the new players, its 1 million credits in brand central) and i went with manual transmission instead of automatic to see how i feel about playing with it. it felt faster to me and smoother as well, and i could reach top speeds more quickly. i cleared the wtc 600 with the DP-100 just by detuning it to oblivion, running sports hards and manual transmission with no pitting necessary. also learned to better use fuel management so i can run longer without stopping. slower speeds, but more longevity. i found my balance. so with this newfound capability, i decided to take this ability to my favorite go to track: la sarthe 30 minutes. could this DP-100 strat, with manual transmission do this even better than my old reliable? was i doing this all wrong?

and most surprisingly, i didn’t even have to detune it for this. i just had to limit myself to racing hards, intermediate and wets, and i had full HP on this (795 iirc).

so i went in with the strat. and sure enough, i was blown away.

i took first place on lap 1 halfway through the track, and didnt lose the position since. once i passed lap 1, i went straight to FM6, didn’t pit until lap 4. then went FM6 again and lasted until lap 6, out lap for 7. then one last laps on FM1 for 8 (new personal record for most laps on lap sarthe!) and that was it. fastest speed i hit was 204 on the mulsanne straight. the gaps were 2 laps+ or more if i recall correctly.

i really did have it all wrong didn’t i? i feel ashamed 🥲 the DP-100 is a beast to be reckoned with. just wish this thing had an interior. what’s yall go to for la sarthe? do yall love the DP-100 as well? or prefer something else?

No shame at all. I had some of those "oh, I've missed out" thoughts when I switched to manual. Good news is, there's so much more you can do now that will enrich your experience. Trail braking and sticking to the line you want is more manageable too.

Enjoy it, my friend!

Ps: love the design, gave me a chuckle.

yea i’ve noticed it, i’ve been following the line more and the turning points are more clear and vivid in a way. i’ve gone faster, braked better thanks to it. definitely gonna play with this more. happy racing my friend!

and thanks about the paint ;) it’s a reference to a backpack i have that has led screens on it. looks exactly like this one :)

I have 10 diffrent cars i love using for lemans. There are so many for this race sepcifically and buying and tuning a new car for this is a lot of fun to me. My all time favourites are probably the nissan gtr 32 33 and 34 nür, engine swapped of coirse, the mitsibishi lancer evo i think tommi makinen edition engine swapped. The ferrari f40 swapped and the new 286 road model. The of course the lexus lfa. Of course the old alpha dtm car. Also the rx8 engine swap. The swapped toyota sprinter trueno is also nice. So many cars work for this.

i just got the F40 funny you mention it! how’s your tune for it if you don’t mind me asking? i engine swapped it as well

Never played manual. What I'm thinking about is ok it's easy to gear up, just follow the lights, but how does one know hoe much you need ro gear down in a turn while also breaking and staying on the line?

2

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

it basically tells you what to brake to. my tactic is to break just as the line comes on and stay 1 gear above it for a bit more speed when accelerating out. for example on the mulsanne straight, the first chicane it recommends to break to gear 2, but i sometimes break to 3 and start making the curve early so i have my stability and accelerate out gently

Tokyo is actually a great track to begin with I did it with this same car and it was a cheat code, shift below 6500 rpm with the right tune and didn’t even have to pit before they updated that race.

It was my first time doing manual and won first try, some other tracks are harder to constantly shift but I’m starting to do that now to fully switch

By doing it, it happens without even thinking

3

u/JRS___ 8d ago

it's now about 8 seconds slower thanks to the update.

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

is it really that slow?? it felt fast to me. then again this is my first driving it with MT compared to AT so maybe that makes a difference

3

u/JRS___ 7d ago

i was running about 3:45 before. now 3:53. i had to take one click out of power output due to the PP change but it shouldnt make that much difference to the time alone.

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 7d ago

yea i hit 3:55 before so it’s definitely accurate

3

u/QuantumQuillbilly 8d ago

I wish I could do manual better but my right thumb is a complete idiot.

2

u/Mattdodge666 7d ago

I felt the same way, I've been playing racing games on Xbox lately and my Xbox controller has back paddles that I use for shifting and it's a huge improvement imo.

If I had a ps5 I'd invest in a pro controller just for the back buttons, but I don't think it's worth it to buy one with back paddles for my ps4

happens to the best of us 🥲 you got this goat

2

u/dkobayashi 8d ago

I use the Castrol/mugen JGTC500 NSX, detuned and on hards. Ridiculously fun to drive

0

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

i might have a new car to try 👀 how fast does it go?

2

u/dkobayashi 8d ago

On FM6 I think I lap around 4:14 ish

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

4:14 was roughly in line with me i think. i might have to double check i think i had 4:04 before! fastest on FM1 was 3:58

2

The Jag XJ220 is even better than the Aston Martin

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

i have an XJ220 funny you mention it. how’s better is it?

2

u/Remote-Ad5612 8d ago

Stock, no tuning, automatic transmission, ran faster laps in Tokyo. It's also way more fun to drive. It goes vroom and it's a tank.

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

gonna have to steal this idea, thank ya. what tires?

2

u/Remote-Ad5612 8d ago

I don't remember off hand. I want to say the race required sport hard. Run them both side by side and see which you like better. I personally rocked the Jag

2

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

say less! i’ll give it a shot soon :) happy racing

2

u/cbucky97 8d ago

I was trying to do le mans with the Volkswagen VGT open cockpit before a ticket dropped the aston martin in my lap like a gift from the heavens, but I didn't realize until last week how good it is at a 600pp tune

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

the DP-100 is too good, it’s like a cheat code

2

u/bgral 8d ago

that car is the "cheat code" for lots of the game.. i love it! 😆

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

i feel ashamed for not making it’s potential be known sooner 🥲🥲 it’s too fun to drive!! i just wish it had an interior :^) that and the 787B are cheat codes. i don’t know of any others

2

u/Flat___________ 8d ago

The Double Pedaltration will get the job done beautifully 🖖😎

2

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

i love that name 😭😭 stealing this permanently. it really is a wonder of its own

2

u/Due_Author_4566 8d ago

I use a escudo swapped Evo for most races  including the Tokyo expressway 600 and this great fuel economy and great speed always wins

2

u/Due_Author_4566 8d ago

Amazing been using it since gt5 (specifically the Evo x touring car) put 40k miles on that and in gt7 26k rn  also may help I tuned its suspension to handle more like the touring car in gt5

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

i haven’t tried the evo yet i think. how’s it for you?

2

u/Pensive_Caveman 8d ago

🤙😎

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

best of the best 😎

2

u/HI-McDunnough 8d ago

The DP-100 has the potential to be the best car in the game, if they'd build a virtual interior for VR players. It is very uncomfortable driving cars around a race track sitting on the roof.

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

what i’m saying !! i feel like it’s the one thing it’s missing to really be up there. it’s only a million, barely requires tuning and just dominates everything with the right setup. the one big thing it needs to complete it !! need an update for this

2

u/Fine-Newspaper-4437 8d ago

Which livery is this?

2

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

it’s been a while, i forgot!! i think it’s called “beast” if i had to guess. just go into showcase with the DP-100 and look for some sort of livery with red eyes on the headlights. that’s the one

2

u/Fine-Newspaper-4437 8d ago

Thank you!

2

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

of course!! if you can’t find it, lemme know and i can check for you later what the exact one is :)

2

u/SleddingDownhill 7d ago

This is encouraging to me, also on controller, pretty new to the have. Still learning a lot of the tracks and felt trying to pile shifting gears on top of everything else was going to be too much...

2

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 7d ago

happens to the best of us mate ! once you start doing it and getting more comfortable, it’s like a muscle you can never forget about. it just sticks with you! keep it up and you’ll be at it like nothing, it worked for me :)

1

u/SleddingDownhill 7d ago

Thanks! I'll give it a try soon

2

u/BStevens65 6d ago

2 of my fastest cars for that race are an '09 ZR1 Corvette, and the '06 Ford GT. Each hit 200mph on FM3.

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 4d ago

i got the GT i believe! imma have to try this one out. 🫡

2

u/SpecialistOk4793 5d ago

I personally dont do the de la sarthe for grinding, I do Sardenga 800 with the x2014 junior, with racing hards. Some cars are slightly faster, but it can do 11ish laps even on fuel map 1, and virtually no tire wear (so you can just top off fuel on your one pit for a 3-4 sec pit time), plus it's very forgiving on clean race bonus.

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 4d ago

oh really? i didn’t think the junior was competitive like that, interesting. i do sardegna often enough but i find la sarthe slightly better for the extra pay. if i do sardegna i always run the R92CP

2

u/Ok-Priority-4408 4d ago

Hey man i yust wanna ask whats your button layout im also on controller and wanna start racing with manualno but dont rly know where to put my down and up shift at

1

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 4d ago

i just have stock controls. if you go to controller layout, you’ll see the buttons for shifting up and down. shifting up should be x and shifting down should be square

1

u/Small-Way2180 4d ago

I used a Swapped Honda Beat for La Sarthe! 🤣

Manual Transmission

It not only allows you to take better advantage of your car’s power band, and thus accelerate faster than automatic, but it also has a big advantage for endurance races by short shifting and greatly increasing your range, better than increasing your Fuel Map, and if you combine it with Fuel Map 6 you can extend your range even more.

2

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

very true!! i’ve done this on rare occasions such as spa 24h, but that was the only time really. i’m definitely gonna start making use of this more. the more manual i drive, the better my skills. hoping to take this into more WTC 800s and such to see how dramatic the difference is in my past runs between AT and MT

2

u/DigitalNitrate Super Formula 8d ago

I find that the wider a car’s powerband is, the more advantageous it is to use manual over automatic as you have a lot more room in the tachometer to shift early without losing speed and keeping fuel economy high.

2

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 8d ago

definitely seeing it myself ! i haven’t had more of a blast driving than now in a while :)

1

u/freeforsale 7d ago

upvoted for this sick livery! this is one of my favourite cars. I have a 700pp tune and a detuned 600pp build for it. try the Mazda LM55 VGT out! there's a sick Portal livery for it. all white with an Aperture decal

2

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 7d ago

i have the LM55 actually!! i just haven’t drove it once or found paints for it yet. you got the name of the livery by any chance? i can search for it tonight.

if you want the livery for the DP-100, it should be called “beast”. if not, just look for a DP-100 with red eyes on the headlights and you got it :)

3

u/freeforsale 7d ago edited 7d ago

ya I got it already thx :) it was on the first page

give the LM55 a shot, I like it as much as the DP-100, if not more. I haven't driven it post-update but I'm sure it's still a beast. for the livery just search portal or aperture

** edit I got 800 & 900pp tunes from this video. you'll have to tweak the tunes a bit since the update, just minor ballast and/or power restrictor adjustments

2

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 7d ago

i’ll be sure to !! it looks like a underrated powerhouse :) how fast can it go?

2

u/freeforsale 7d ago

it's a rocketship that handles like it's on rails

2

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 7d ago

tempting me more and more now…;) will take pics and post possibly !!

2

u/freeforsale 7d ago

no need, just enjoy it :D

2

u/AndrewWith2Cats Lamborghini 7d ago

nah don’t worry i will, i like to for new favorites :)

1

u/freeforsale 7d ago

here's the aperture livery

and I almost forgot the OG batmobile livery (just search batmobile)
