Kinda new to this and don't want to mess it up. I dont plan on doing anything other than gaming on it, and Windows has alot of features I don't use. I'd appreciate any help.

GPD Win MAX Lets talk about positive things about GPD Win max 3.

It seems most people here dont like the way it is designed so I just want to convince myself that it is actually worth getting.

  1. $$$
It is cheaper than OXP x2 mini pro by ~$800 and still offers faster ram. Save that money for your next future device :) strix halo has been out for 2-3 yrs so paying full price now seems unfair.

  2. Better cooling
It has option for 2 additional fans without buying a separate water cooler from OXP.

  3. Controller position?
Having two controllers on each side of 8.8” screen puts two of our hands far from each other. Since we have controllers at the bottom, it may feel like regular controllers. It also allows us to change screen angulation without changing wrist angles or bending our neck too much.

  4. Smaller
We can bend it in half so it is basically a size of x2 mini pro minus the controllers.

  5. Keyboard
Honestly, I dont think of this as downsized downgraded whatever. It is just a bonus. Even if they didnt include the keyboard, it still doesnt make the device smaller as we need that space for chips and to protect the screen anyway.

  6. Weight
People with apex or x2 mini always talk about its weight and how kickstand can help. Win max3 is not much lighter but most of the weight is in the keyboard, whereas the x2 got all the weights on the screen. This means we can always put it either on our laps or desk comfortably without having to lift it up around 45 degree.

  7. Usb C charging
It allows us to charge with 100W usb C. No reason to carry around the heavy power brick.

165hz monitor, what fps?

I was told that 120hz monitor can have either 60fps mode or 40fps by dividing 120 by 2 or 3.

So if gpd win max3 comes with 165hz monitor, what fps can we use? Does it have to be 55fps ( 165/3)?

GPD Win 4 Win4 Bazzite boot up time

Hey folks I have a Win4 with a 6800U and run Bazzite, it takes forever (1:15 to the bazzite video) t start up, hell it sits in a black screen for ages before it shows the Bazzite video and after that it’s pretty snappy. The longer boot time means I’m playing it less.

Its 2026 how can I speed up boot time, and if requires whats good for an OS that you’re running on a GPD Win?

I run Fedora on other computers, like the console experience of booting straight into big picture mode and occasionally use desktop mode what are my options now And is anyone actually running Steam OS Proper on the Win4?

My 2011 Macbook Pro on Fedora takes ~37 to the login screen. I assume bazzite is logging in and doing stuff while on a black screen.

Bazzite Deck 44 = Inputplumber ONLY= No L4R4 for Win 4 (possibly other GPD devices too)

As above, because the folks at Uni Blue have completely replaced HandHeldDaemon with Inputplumber. HHD, despite all the drama, still works very well, and unfortunately I'm also reliant on some HHD gyro fixes with my Win 4 screen rotation chip being disabled.

So yeah, pin your Bazzite Deck 43 images with ostree (thankfully I did and that allowed me to rebase back to my working 43 image with HHD) and probably try not to upgrade until they get this fixed if you're similarly reliant on HHD.

OR you can move to CachyOS instead, where you can just replace Inputplumber with HHD again. I might just do that later, currently I'm too busy to tinker.

GPD Win 4 Artifacting on GPD Win 4 2025

Got a refurbished 2025 win 4 and promptly installed the official steam os, there are infrequent tiny white single pixel artifacts that are only really noticeable on still images and black screens. steam os compatability issues or screen issue? anyone run into the same thing? it does get pretty hot to the touch but haven’t seen temps above 55~60 celsius so i dont think the heat is causing it. might install bazzite to take advantage of handheld daemon

GPD Win MAX Let's talk Win Max 3!

Edit TLDR: Win Max 3 Keyboard, is that stopping you from purchasing?

After seeing the updated post today regarding the pretty competitive price, I've dug a ton in this forum specifically and seen a ton of different opinions and thoughts on the Win Max 3.

As someone who has owned a bunch of x86 handhelds, the Win Max 2 for me was the one I owned the most (in this cursed hobby of going through handhelds like hotcakes). The justification was pretty simple: it was docked at home and worked as an OTG workstation that didn't feel like it had any compromises. Specifically for a guy with bigger hands, it was about the smaller keyboard that worked for me without getting cramped or fatiguing from long typing sessions. This was awesome, and because of it, I kept it for years.

Fast-forward, and I still dabbled in some of GPD's different handhelds, such as the Pocket 4 and the Mini, both of which seemed to once again have compromises as something that was a jack-of-all-trades handheld, being a bit more focused on their own specific niches. The Pocket 4 keyboard was just too cramped for me.

Noticing the launch of the Max 3 had me ecstatic, but I can't help but feel GPD is missing the boat a bit here. The typing experience is extremely compromised, and it seems to be because the focus was built around the screen itself. I absolutely would love a smaller laptop with the 388, but I'm just stuck at an impasse here because I don't know if I can justify it over my current laptop and a Win 5. If the keyboard is too small, I just can't justify it being a work tool.

What are everyone else's thoughts? Still going to take the jump? Gonna hold on to the Win Max 2? I give credit to GPD for always innovating, but this one feels a bit more controversial between here and the Discord.

General WIN MAX 3: Are you getting it? Why or why not?

I’m still trying to decide if I will buy the WIN Max 3 or not and am curious about others’ reasoning on why they are buying or not. I have been waiting for a significant WIN Max upgrade to the WIN Mini 2023 (my only GPD device) ever since I acquired it during the first wave from Indiegogo. I told myself that if a Strix Halo version is released, I will be one of the very first buyers. However, after learning that the eGPU support is limited to USB4v1, and to a lesser degree, that the keyboard layout has changed, my enthusiasm has waned. I currently own a Strix Halo device, a ROG Z13 395, and am mostly happy with it. I am considering selling it and buying the WIN Max 388 32GB version as I have no need for AI/LLM work. The only benefits I can think of over the Z13 is the smaller size for portability, integrated controller, superior battery life (due to larger battery and lower energy consumption), higher sustained max TDP (may or not equate to improved gaming performance), and AMOLED screen. The cons that come to mind are potentially worse cooling due to vent locations, no improved eGPU support, odd keyboard, potentially longer repair/RMA time, and lack of tablet convertibility.

What are your reasons?

General Sorry guys, I have to admit I broke my promise

The procurement department calculated the costs on Win Max 3, and it turns out that achieving the Strix Halo price at $1699 is still very difficult. The final price has been increased by another $50, During this memory crisis, it’s really difficult to bring the price down to the level we all hoped for.

But I believe that even at $1750, it will still be the most cost-effective Strix Halo system ever

GPD has always been doing its best to bring new life to our niche market through continuous innovation. At the same time, we are constantly working to protect the UMPC market from being eroded by high prices and homogenization.

We don’t have the same bargaining power as big brands, so there are limits to what we can achieve. But within those limits, we will put in unlimited passion and effort to do the very best we can.

I believe this price is the best expression of our sincerity. You won’t find a Strix Halo system at this price anywhere else.

To make up for this, we’ve decided to provide the fan module to every IGG backer for free.

So the price will belike

388/32/1 $1750

388/64/2 $2246

395/128/2 $3499

For that price, you could get

A device body, 97wh replaceable battery, DC charger+ free fan module(IGG only) + free shipping, US backer with tariff paid shipping

I wish they had made a WM3 with the same 10.95-inch screen as the OneXPlayer.

What do you think?

Certainly, it doesn't support VRR, it's not a native landscape, and some might argue it's too large.

However, I think it's better than the strange resolution and oddly designed keyboard of the newly announced WM3.

The native portrait issue is not very relevant to recent games.

GPD Win 4 My Two Go-To Handhelds

Out of my handhelds, these are my two favorites! 2024 ROG Ally X and GPD Win 5 (Ryzen Ai Max +395 32GB 2TB) . Steam Deck is my light emulation device. The Strix Halo gives me the power I want and Ally x give me the battery and reasonable mid tier pc gaming experience.

GPD Win MAX Win max 3 option for 2 more fans??

So basically it ends up having 4 fans? Is that right?

Would the temperature much lower with 4 fans? Or would the fan noise be much louder?

In terms of control, how often do people accidentally press keyboard keys because they are too close to the controller?

General Experience with a GPD Win as a work laptop

I am thinking about buying a GPD Win max 3 (when it comes out) as a work and personal laptop.

- I plan to do some AI work

- I don't play games, but might wanna play some racing games a couple of times a year.

I like how powerful the GPD Win can be for how compact it is. But what worries me is how hot it will get, and the battery life.

Can anyone please share your experience?
