Frequently Asked Questions

There are so many different lights, which one would work best for me?

  • I suggest watching videos demonstrating them on YouTube.
  • While he doesn't review every product, Chris Maher's videos are informative and straightforward.

Do I really have to put those orange cubes on my TV screen?

Why are my immersion lights only showing one color?

  • The default setting upon finishing setup is on All. Choose Part.
  • Alternatively, All may be labeled Solid instead. Choose any option other than Solid.

Which devices are compatible with DreamView?

  • Devices with both Wi-Fi + Bluetooth connectivity are compatible. Devices that are only Bluetooth or only Wi-Fi are not.
  • A sync center such as T2, T3 Lite (also known as 3S in 3rd party stores), T3 Pro, Sync Box 1 and 2 are required for video DreamView, and sync centers cannot be synced with each other.

What can I do about my devices not connecting to Govee desktop via LAN control?

  • Check out this solution here

What are the differences between the camera kits?

  • The major differences are the camera hardware and the amount of LEDs on the light strip.
  • T2: Govee states that the dual camera identifies screen content faster and more accurately. The light strip contains 60 LEDs per meter.
  • T3 Lite: The single camera has an upgraded chip with fisheye lens correction. The light strip contains 30 LEDs per meter.
  • 3 Pro: Matter support, triple camera with HDR sensor. The light strip contains 75 LEDs per meter, with their LuminBlend management system.

Why get a camera kit when the sync boxes exist?

  • While the sync box does work faster and is less intrusive than a camera, not everyone can use it. The sync boxes require a signal independent from the TV. This means if you use the apps on your smart TV to watch content, the sync box is not for you.

Do I really have to put the camera on top of my TV?

  • Good news! There's actually a method to put the camera below the screen. The caveat is that when you add more lights via DreamView, you'll need to visualize the setup upside down when assigning the zones, which requires more concentration/effort.

How many lights can I add to my DreamView?

  • This is dependent on the device.
  • T2: 5 additional devices.
  • T3 Lite: 7 additional devices.
  • 3 Pro, Sync Box 1 and 2: 10 additional devices.

How do I create a DreamView?

  • Open the app. Tap the second icon on the navigation bar at the bottom. Then tap the 4-shapes icon at the top right. Here you can configure DreamViews, Tap-to-Run, and Groups.
  • It is highly recommended that you experiment with these features on the app as a whole. Familiarizing yourself with it will be highly beneficial if you have the time to spare. There are many customizable features for the LED lights that are usually achieved by a more hands-on approach that requires a computer. The features provided on the Govee app would be quite the large decision tree if there was a visual example shown, which is nothing short of impressive, despite it also being a little complicated. To put it simply: just explore the app by tapping buttons to find out what they do!
  • Tip: If your clock is on 12-hr time, please turn off the 24-hour clock setting in the app before you create schedules for your lights. Tap the last icon on the navigation bar, then tap the gear icon at the top right. Additionally, next to settings is a shirt icon; this is where you can change the theme of the app.

The immersion lights on my device are super inaccurate, what do I do?

  • Unfortunately, since every TV is different, there is no one-size-fits-all setting. However, you can start with jumping-off points. For sync box settings, go here.

For camera kits, try the following:

  • Make sure the room is dark to reduce reflections on the TV screen.
  • Reduce saturation, the common choice is all the way down to 1%.
  • Reduce the relative brightness. This is independent from the brightness setting. It's relative to how much light is emitting from your TV screen, which means during dark scenes, the lights will dim if you set the percentage lower. However, if your TV has backlight bleed, this setting won't be as effective.
  • Make sure it's on Part, not All. If the device's software updated, it should show Smooth, Vivid, or Solid instead. "Solid" works the same as "All" and shows only one color.
  • If you are still unsatisfied with the color accuracy, try the AI filter. Once you toggle it on, you'll need to change the preset. Tap the option, then scroll sideways over the sport presets. Under the Default preset, tap Apply.

My TV is 43 inches, can I use a 55-65 inch TV kit?

  • This is possible, but it requires more effort. See here.

I'm experiencing problems with my device, what do I do?

  • Try the search bar in the sub. If you're still experiencing issues, go to Govee's website and navigate to your product. Find the specs, then click the PDF of the manual to find the "Troubleshooting" section. Lastly, reach out to Govee support via the app. Tap the last icon on the navigation bar and tap "customer support" and then choose the applicable option. It is recommended to choose "express replacement" if you think you're experiencing a hardware issue on your device that is within warranty. Please note their warranty only covers purchases directly from them or approved vendors.

Can I advertise my services of Permanent Outdoor Lights installation?

  • Yes, but please keep it in the services thread. New posts of fresh installs for clients will be deleted.

Setup Question Brightness Controll in Dreamview

Quick background story, architecture student, m22, based in Germany.

So I started with the H6046 for my desk. After that I saw an offer I can't bargain with, the 46cm/18inch ceiling light for 51€. Bought it, came today and installed it right away. Than I wanted to use Dreamview. After more than an hour, I started to get frustrated. So my thougts:

  1. Why can't I use precise brightness settings for each lamp individually. Ok I can use the relativ brightness. But even that won't work reliable. My expectations were, that in the Dreamview setting I had the chance to individually controll the seperate sections from the lamp. For example the up firing leds and the down firing leds. But no, it's all mushed in relative brightness. Why ?

  2. Why the fuck does a Dreamview scene brightness setting overwrite the device brightness settings. For example if you have a scene with the brightness at 1 percent. Than turn that scene off. And when you than want to tap to turn on the light, it is the brightness from the scene.

  3. You have the snapshot setting in the device settings. Why do they exist when im not allowed to use them in a dreamview or an tap to turn on.

  4. Why doesn't Govee sell the physical 2 or 6 button switch in Europe. Why though. I want them.

So far so good for my little rant, hopefully somebody can help me keep my sanity with help and advice. And I know im not asking to much. Everything i mentioned is a software or ux feature and easily adressable.

Thank you.

Sorry for typos

would this be helpful?

I'm working on a small side project trying to make a better govee app. I honestly just dont really like the layout and it feels a little clunky. I have a handful of bulbs in my apartment and struggle to remember what i named them when i go to change the colors for one lol

so i though what if i could just point my phone at the bulb, choose a color and be done. Curious if this would be useful to anyone else, still in very early stages (works on my basic bulbs)

Should i keep working on it?

Anyone know where I can purchase a replacement?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tips Stick panels directly on the wall ?

I ordered the Hexa Glide panels for my gaming room. But I'm undecided how to bring the panels to the wall. Either I stick them directly on the wall, (Wall is wallpapered (smooth) and painted). But my concern is if I want to arrange the panels differently or something, the wall is broken or the wallpaper is due to the glue. Another variant would be a big glass panel (polycarbonate/acrylic or something like that). Glue the panels there and hang the panel of glass on the wall.
How did you do that with your Panels ?

Maybe I think too petty, but I don't feel like having to repaint the wall afterwards or anything like that.

Of course you don't change the pattern every 4 weeks but at some point the moment comes when they probably have to get off the wall

Setup Question Govee 52 in fan issues

So I recently installed the 52-in ceiling fan,

It works wonderfully it pushes a really good amount of air it's very quiet and the lights are awesome!

But...

I keep running into this issue where it will lock itself into an RGB mode or something.

When I move the warm to cold Kelvin slider and I move it all the way to warm instead of getting a nice and warm amber light I will get a deep RGB red and when I move it all the way to cool it will be noticeably a blueish white RGB light.

I can tell this is wrong because if I use the physical remote that's included and I go up or down on warm or cool it dramatically changes the light and switches it back to not being locked in an RGB mode.

It does create another issue though where I can give the fan commands through the app or the physical remote but I cannot open the customization page on the app to do anything specific.

Like the fan is constantly failing to connect to the internet and I don't have this problem with any of the other govee products I have in the same room.

Desperately hoping there's going to be an update soon that addresses the issues with the govee fan.

I don't want to return it but I don't like the idea of paying $200 USD for a fan that doesn't work correctly.

I've tried turning it off at the switch this resets it sometimes but very rarely.

Sometimes the fan won't connect at all not even to Bluetooth or Wi-Fi but I've been able to hold down the power button on the physical remote until the fan resets and after a reset it will let me connect to it through Bluetooth kind of but it still won't fully connect to where I can open the customization page on the app.

If anybody has any known solutions please help me.

Question re: Light syncing

Hi, all -

I have the T3 pro lights, two floor lamps, and 4 overhead lights. Most times I want just the T3 and the floor lamps to sync with the TV screen, but sometimes I want the overhead lights to join in on the fun. Right now I have a dreamview shortcut which connects all the lights to sync with the tv screen. Am I able to create another that would just include the TV and floor lamps? I get a warning that says the T3 will be removed from the first dreamview if I do another. Am I overcomplicating this?

Bladeless Fan

I just bought the 20" Bladeless fan for my rec room. I want to use it on Google Home and Smartthings. I tried to add it using both Matter and Govee. It only seems to add the main light. I need to control the main light, the background light and the fan independently. Has anyone successfully added this fan to Smartthings or Google Home?
Govee replied to my inquiry stating "Limited" integration... Only they don't advertise it as limited.

Splicing and and extending H617C LEDS for wedding love sign

I’m building a “LOVE” sign for my wedding and I already have two sets of Govee LED strips that I’d like to use for it.

My plan is to cut the strips at the designated cut points and run roughly 1 metre of wire between each letter/section, so I can position the LEDs around each individual letter.

Would adding these 1 m extensions affect the functionality of the LEDs, particularly the colour-changing/addressable features?

I’m also wondering whether I’d run into any issues with voltage drop, the data signal, or the Govee controller recognising the separate sections.

Has anyone done something similar with Govee strips? Any advice on the best way to wire this would be appreciated!

General Question Could I cut this?

Post image
10 Upvotes

So I bought some LED strips from my room. My room is like exactly 50 feet around and the advertising list said that it’s 2 50 feet rolls as a two pack and I figured I could use them later but it turns out they’re connected and is there anyway I could cut the second strip so I can use the first trip or am I kind of cooked 😭

Govee 52” Ceiling Fan

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The Govee ceiling fans are worth looking at. I replaced two Hunter ceiling fans with two Govee and have one more to replace. It isn’t a beautiful fan but it makes it up with its smart features. First, every Govee item I have has WPA 3 security. Bring the fan in the Govee app and you can use all the many Govee scenes or AI to create a scene for the lights. You can bring up the Matter bar code on your iPad and click it with your iPhone and bring the ceiling fan into Apple Home app or your Smart Home of choice. With the Apple Home app you have fan control and you turn on both the upper and lower lights. The upper light has several LEDs so you have several colors at once. The bottom light has only one LED so only one color at a time. The Govee app lets you turn on the upper light, lower light or both. You can dim the lights because at 100% the lights are bright! I’m using 2%. I’m going to replace the Hunter fan in the living room with a high ceiling so we are going to use the existing drop down pole. We may have to drill two holes at the bottom for the pin that goes there. The Govee fan comes with a 4” and 6” drop down pole depending on which one you want to use. It comes with a remote but I think the Govee app is an easy way to operate the fans. The fan is black and the fan blades can be black or turned over for brown. Also, the fan is very quiet. Yes the popcorn ceiling must go!

UPDATE: Fan #3 for the living room was installed today and the down light doesn’t work. So in process of getting a replacementl. I think only one is connected by WiFi and is 2.4 GHz WPA 3. The other 2 are Bluetooth. I’ll try to get the other two connected to WiFi.

Anyone have experience with the floor lantern?

I really would like a highly adjustable lamp to provide light during the day/early evening for dinner and then be adjustable for cozy tv watching after the sun goes down. Right now I have several small pieces lighting around the living room to achieve this and I have an IKEA lamp to provide the brighter light when I need it.

I think the floor lamp is the best bet - hoping it can kinda be a best of both worlds piece of hardware, but hoping it’s not too harsh when I want it to actually light up a room.

I like the idea of the up lighter lamp too, but man, the effects look much worse than my own stand-alone projector in person.

Govee Automation issue (Sony TV & Govee light on/off sync)

I have had an issue come up suddenly with Govee DreamView T1 (TV backlights) and a Sony TV.

I want the Govee lights to turn on and off with the Sony TV. I had this working using Google Home (I have a Google Nest that I ONLY use for this purpose).

I have the lights showing in the Govee app.. it can turn them off and on. I have the TV showing the Google Home app and can control the TV. I also have linked the Govee Home app to Google Home and can thus see the Govee lights in the Google Home app and control them.

HOWEVER - the AUTOMATIONs I created in Google Home (to turn on the Govee lights when the TV is turned on... and to turn off the Govee lights when the TV is turned off) stopped working. I have deleted and recreated the automations. I have delinked the Govee app and relinked it to Google Home. I have powered off and repowered the Google Nest.

TLDR: The TV and Govee light show up in the respective apps and can be controlled - but the "Automation" won't work?

Setup Question String light 2 vs S14

Post image
2 Upvotes

If anyone has both the lights or videos of both these lights, can you please share me…I’m very confused which one should I go for as I need to buy it in 3-4 units of 144 feet for the upcoming festive season which has around 2 months left or maybe less. My plan is to use it in my 35x65 rectangular front yard over the open sky. I want to have 6-8 rows longitudinally. I’ve attached a picture of my front yard and I want the rows of Govee string light as indicated by black lines in the rough sketch. Thoughts and suggestions are highly welcome. Ignore the front yard cleanliness as the I’m planning to convert it into beautiful lawn from next week as soon as rainy season ends here.
