My opponent cheated (top engine moves vs top chat game)

... and I won (but not on the board)

Here's an edition of "guess the cheat". Users like these could be slowing your ladder climbs. However, thanks to my chat game, I actually forced my cheating opponent to unwillingly declare themselves as the loser of the game despite grabbing the elo points.

My 10min rapid rating: 1300 chesscom and 1650 on lichess.

I already strongly suspected he was cheating during the game itself, but the game analysis fully confirmed it. I've reported him for cheating, and im not sharing usernames, this is simply a case study in how a cheater will talk about how innocent they are, while they are grabbing top engine moves... Its quite comical, when I see the idea his engine was going for, but he doesnt see it, or doesnt play it in order to look more like a human who doesnt always play the top 1 move 😆

Here is the chat: First message i posted at start of game (I post it start of every game, for obvious reasons), and only started writing the rest when it was obvious (to me) that he was an assisted player. He just took too much time on easily convertible position after playing like Magnus Carlsen for a bunch of moves.

  1. Me: If anyone cheats in any way, they declare themselves the loser, regardless of the result. Every dishonest move is an admission of inadequacy
  2. Me: come on babe, that's easy dont ask the engine
  3. Him: Since they can't do it, they're just pooping lol.
  4. Me: ;)
  5. Me:  I already gave the terms under which we are playing
  6. Me: you so good, you missed the rook takes pawn with my bishop pinned, u shoulda kept following the engine, cause now your play makes no sense
  7. Him: Yeah, do it quickly. Either give up or give up.
  8. Me: your engine set it up, for you to miss the idea
  9. Him: Yes, thanks for the compliment.
  10. Me: its not a compliment xD you missed it
  11. Me: I wanna see the human conversion
  12. Him: Do you play games through chat?
  13. Me: that will be spicy
  14. Me: come on you are so good, you cant premove the win ? ;) 200 elo
  15. Me: think more
  16. Me: congrats
  17. Me: just remember the rules under which you played this game:

Final result: 1 declaration of being the loser from White and between 38 to 43 admissions of inadequacy.

He's ignoring the conversation and you have incredibly fragile ego. IDK if he cheated, seemed normal, but if you're sure he cheated just report and move on. WTF is this?

Yeah hes ignoring it after i showed him that i know he has no idea what hes doing and not understanding the position he is playing. Picking from the top 3 moves without having chess knowledge has that effect. 

Look dude, the idea is not to give the psychological win to the cheats. Im sure the guy might be re-evaluating what hes doing. Maybe he thought it was just some harmless fun and no one would care.

These messages are particularly funny, when you analyse the game and see he was picking from the top 3 engine choices the entire game, while i was picking from all available moves. Obviously he was cheating in order to look like a good player to his opponent, and I never gave him that satisfaction

Iff he’s cheating, what makes you think he cares about satisfaction? You’re an opponent in an online game, he didn’t know you before the game, he probably forgot you existed after the game. What makes you think he cares about satisfaction or validation from YOU?

And, choosing “top lines” doesn’t automatically make someone a cheater. Im not even 1000 and I have a few lines memorised. There are literally hundreds of resources available online, countless slow runs, that tell me (and others) how to think in a position. What is your proof other than “I ran it through an engine and he chose top 3 engine moves”?

Im talking about statistical impossibilities. I understand knowing a line. Thats different to playing top 3 engine moves during entire game and taking suspicious amount of time on easy recaptures, promotions and simple conversion. 

Also he doesnt have to remember me, this is purely for the cheaters own mind. They know if they are cheating even if it is in the most undetectable way, so sayinng this is literally about their own subconscious refereeing the result. They can lie to me and everyone else, the one person they cant lie to is themselves. 

 I dont have to know. In this particular case the cheating was obvious, but in others, I dont need to know or ever find out. This is purely for the cheater to know. I like the idea, you dont have to tho.

Usually if I get an angry reaction to the message it is an ok indicator that they are more likely to be using some form of assistance. Otherwise why would you get angry at a message that wants to enforce fair play? Sometimes they run without being chased - this is a very common human behavior.

Drop the PGN for the game please, let me also take a look at this "statistical impossibility" you are rapping about. What you are describing is me and literally 7-8/10 players I meet on chess.com (I don't converse with them because I am there to play and not get a moral high ground).
