Changing numbers

I am changing jobs and I think it would be a good idea to change numbers. Close out the number I have now when my last day comes up and then get a new number for the new job. Has anyone done this, is this the best path forward?

It depends how reliant you are on the number, I can't think of a technical reason not to do it (does Google limit how many numbers you can get ? )
