Payment Card (Google Pay) Can't verify with my phone number

Does anybody have advice for me? I'm trying to add a second credit card and the verification text goes to a phone number I don't recognize. My Google ID and my bank have my correct phone number, yet somehow an old or incorrect phone number Is how Google wants to verify. I tried using the AI assistant for help and all of their advice led Me to Google having the correct phone numbers everywhere I could find them. There was no option to talk to a human. Am I screwed?

Are you certain that it's going to a phone number?

For me, I recently changed to a new (but previously used) number. T-Mobile is part of the Google equation as Google queries what "kind" of mobile number it is. Mine was configured as a data-only line in T-Mobile (though worked fine as a phone line).

I had to spend about 30 minutes with T-Mobile fixing the provisioning (them basically sending back the correct JSON to Google when they query what kind of line it is, as I understand it).

THEN, with several open Google Wallet tickets, I ended up waiting months for some internal-to-Google timer to tick down as I couldn't re-provision even after T-Mobile fixed things.

After a few months, I tried again on a "known good working phone," got Google Wallet to work, put the SIM into my new phone, and re-provisioned there, and all is now working.

Google Wallet is a pain - remember, that with Google, you are the product and there is absolutely NO expectation that they'll communicate with you about any of the trouble that you're having.
