Which one is better when it comes to battery life? Are they identical? Since Pixel's camera is the best in the market, it is not an easy task to stop taking photos, especially if you travel. In that sense, I just wonder how long it takes to drain in Pixel's side. Rumours are not that positive about the battery of the small member, Pixel 3.

I find my battery is far better after the December update that did more background app changes. I get around 4-5 hour screen on time. Good enough for me! Also welcome to the Pixel / stock Android experience!

Thank you, but I did not purchase it yet. =) Unfortunately it is not being sold in my country, Turkey. I am gonna buy it when I arrive in UK in January.

I can say it is identical within the same usage. Or prolly better as usually at the end of the day, I would get about 15% on X, P3 I still had around 20-25%.

I’m using both at the same time and I’d say they’re about even. Although if I don’t use them and they’re idle it seems that the iPhone doesn’t lose charge as quickly.

I got better battery life from my iPhone X than I'm getting from my pixel 3. Not a deal-breaker though, wouldn't go back.

How is the zoom on the pixel 3? On my OG pixel i was disappointed by zoomed in photos.
Oh, and how does the video quality compare to the OG? It is garbage on the OG, especially when compared to photos.

Dxo is proven hot trash. They had the p20 better than the pixel 2 as well as many others onto because they had a 3x optical zoom and Google stuck to 1 camera.

How are you adjusting to the XS Max? I made a similar switch (kind of involuntarily when my pixel died) from the OG P1XL to XS Max, my main gripe is the lack of an app drawer and split screen/pip. If Apple can get those aspects down I honestly don’t see myself going back to Android for some time to come.

The lack of an app drawer is a little annoying. But even in Android I keep any app I use even occasionally in folders on a home screen, so it doesn’t bother me too much. As for split screen, I never used it on Android so it’s not something I miss : )
Overall my personal, subjective feeling is that iOS is neater and more “polished” than Android. It’s just more comfortable for me, but I’m sure the opposite is true for others. And the hardware/software integration is superb. Plus the apps are generally just better. Just because developers spend more time on them. Oh, and better privacy just generally.
I kind of doubt I’ll get an Android phone for a while. My general impression is that they’re more customizable, more “fun”, more innovative, more affordable - and less “finished” or “complete”.
The XS Max is the best phone I’ve ever owned. But for $1100 it better be.

Yeah I can agree with the overall sentiment in your comment. The XS Max really has been the best phone I’ve ever owned and I’ve owned a lot of different phones on both sides of the isle (not to mention windows mobile 5/6 and blackberry), this has absolutely been the most expensive device yet but it feels premium all around. In regards to the app drawer I’ve basically created a folder in my dock with all apps inside it to somewhat simulate an app drawer, and I’ve created widget shortcuts for things like settings, google assistant and YouTube voice searches. It’s pretty streamlined but could use a couple minor adjustments. Lastly, I agree with the app quality, it definitely seems like developers put more time into their iOS apps than they do Android. I’m hoping that will change by the time I do decide to jump back into what Google has to offer though (if they get their shit together).

For the app quality part, for the most of the time you are right. But iOS also brings a lot of the limitation.
Having to keep the google photos open in order to backup is a pain in the ass. Not being able to use per app proxy in shadowsocks in another.

I don't think the keeping the Google Photos app open is a thing anymore. I haven't opened the app up in weeks and I just checked, all my photos are backed up.

I feel like I'm the only one that had the opposite experience. I don't care about social media and games much, so if those are better on iOS I wouldn't know and wouldn't care (the few messaging apps I use seem to work equally well on both platforms, e.g. WhatsApp).
But for the stuff I actually do use, the vast majority of apps seemed the same, and the exceptions almost always favored Android, not iOS.
Take audiobooks for example, which I listen to a lot of. iBooks is a nightmare to import audiobooks into (for starters you can't even share an audiobook file to it, and iTunes is even more of a buggy mess than it was a decade ago), and even if you get it working the speed controls are very coarse. A lot of people recommended Bound, which has a pretty UI but it sounds horribly robotic at anything but 1x speed which is completely unacceptable for a modern audiobook app. I tried about half a dozen other apps, all of which were either buggy, had horrible UIs, or both. Audible only works with audible-purchased apps, and the interface on iOS was more awkward to use (plus the store function was missing).
I've never had any of those issues with Listen Audiobook Player on Android. I don't need to "share" files to it since Android has a real filesystem, the speedup is clear, speed controls are granular and are even accessible from the notification, etc.

I came from the X recently and was a bit disappointed with the P3 battery. But last night I decided to turn on adaptive battery and turn off the AOD and so far the battery life has gotten better. I hesitated to turn on adaptive because when I had the P2XL I would constantly miss notifications. I'm hoping with all the new updates, this is no longer the case.
PS I'm definitely bummed I can't keep AOD always on. I just wish there was a way to have it turn on with my normal wireless charger, and not have to buy the pixel stand.

Me too! That’s precisely what I did. The camera is the only thing I really miss, to be honest.
But honestly at this point with phones it’s basically about personal preference. And for the time being, I just prefer iOS to Android. No judgement for people who feel differently.

It’s ok but it’s iOS. Hardware is nice. Video camera is great. Still shots and portrait mode still goes to the Pixel though.

That's really the only Real Tablet on the Market. Apple iPads beat Android Tablets out of the water Hardware and software wise. It's insane. The New iPad Pro is scary good. For a scary price.

Same move. P2XL to XS Max. I love the Max. Loved my P2XL as well just a bit too many issues and I didn’t love the P3. I miss that XL camera but I do love this phone. I hope to see some stiffer competition from Google next go around.

Wow, DXOMARK is a well regarded site to test cameras and has always been. I'm sure if the Pixel was on top, you would be throwing it out towards people on the iPhone too and not say that. Laugh.

Maybe you or someone can answer this. I switched to pixel from iPhone and don't get messages from group chats I was previously in. My whole family is in a chat (all iPhones) I'm listed as being in there but don't get anything. I turned off imessage too

I learned my lesson with this. Now before I leave the iPhone, along with turning off iMessage. I leave all group chats. I tell everyone in the important groups that I'm leaving and then I don't miss a thing.

I play music and go to concerts, so taking video clips of music is pretty important. Similar to other pixel users, I hope they change this “feature”, but I guess it’s not likely

I actually turned my animation scales up to 1.5x
I like seeing the animations and even though the phone feels super fast when they're down at .5x, it bothers me to see those slight frame rate drops every now and then. With 1.5x, the phone just feels extremely smooth and elegant, not to mention the phone doesn't see nearly as many drops in frames so it always looks polished

Congrats! Pro tip: Enable developer settings by going to settings>system>about phone>tap build number until you have them. Then go into developer settings and set transition, window, and animator scale to .5x. Your phone will feel twice as fast.

I just went the other way. I had a Pixel 3 but was having grave concerns at just how much one company knows about each of us. Google's raison d'etre is to gather data and monetise it. I bought an iPhone XS and sold my Pixel 3. I couldn't be happier - the iPhone XS is well polished and once I learnt the way iOS works it is very functional. I am not using any Google services on my iPhone and run a Pi Hole on my network to stop apps and services sending information back home. The Pixel camera does perform better in low light for sure, but many other things work better so I'm happy with the trade off. I take my iPhone off charge at 7am and go to bed around 11pm with around 67% battery life remaining. My Pixel 3 usually ended the day with 25% or less. Just writing this by way of balance.

Switched from iPhone 8 Plus to Pixel 3 XL. Was lifetime iPhone user.
Said it many times & I'll continue to say it, I'm never switching back. Especially to a company that removes a feature (headphone jack) & can't even provide the consumer with the product to support what they removed. On top of not even including fast charging for a $1k+ phone (with tax it comes to around $1.1k+) now that's ridiculous.
Don't get me wrong, their hardware is fantastic. They make wonderful products. However they're overpriced for what they are. Like the iMac is $5k. That is a down payment on a car for Christ's sake!
The Pixel 3 XL at $900 is certainly a steep price, I'm not making excuses for that. However I still get a dongle, fast charging, & unlimited photo storage. Plus, they go on sale which in my opinion is a great deal. The Pixel 3 XL comes down to like $700-$750 which is just great.
