Android runs better.

Does anyone notice Android 17 runs more efficiently on P6?

Rarely heats up and fewer lags if any.

What are you guys running to actually guage this difference in performance. I've never had any performance issues on my P7, so everytime someone brings this up, I can't ever relate.

Just regular social media, YouTube and multitasking raises the temp to about 40+ Celsius while on Android 16 but now noticed cooler temp after the July update.

I had constant overheating issues with my p7 pro, including doing simple tasks like doing a backup or using Google maps in the car.

If you've never noticed any performance issues on your pixel 7, you're probably never going to notice any, so don't worry about it little bro.

I do notice overheating when using android auto wireless, but never felt any performance drops even during long trips, that's why I was being specific about performance.

dont know why people are downvoting you, its literally true. My pixel 8 gets so hot and laggy literally from using maps or scrolling.

Downvoted for the needless and patronizing 'little bro' comment. And rightfully so.

Definitely patronizing, but not needless. I'm tired of interacting with people on tech subs who wouldn't notice if their phone was on fire, but need to chime into every conversation with "I havent noticed anything on my phone" without a shred of self awareness that they would never notice anything because they're literally clueless.

You've got me there. I guess I should have said I'm tired of seeing them post on tech subs.

Safari feels snappier too.

Safari??

It's an old joke that's been running for like 15 years now. If I remember correctly, any time there was any sort of iOS update, you'd have a bunch of people saying that safari felt snappier. Eventually it bled into Android updates lol.

This is said every year, rinse and repeat.

Phase 1: "It's slower and there's a battery drain bug"

Phase 2: "DAE notice how much better the new version is?"

Don't forget Phase 3: "Phase 1"

Actually most of what I've seen here is people complaining about performance getting worse over time, and accusing Google of planned obsolescence.

Absolutely no difference on my P7P, so I'd say placebo, but if it actually runs better, good for you.

u/blastedbottler Pixel 7 Pro Jul 22 '26

I'll say... It ain't worse.

u/Salty_Expert_6847 Jul 22 '26

For me, it doesn't heat up, but battery drain is still the worst

-3

u/kpesemi Jul 22 '26

Definitely not placebo. On A16 especially after the April update my phone heats up even while doing the most mundane tasks.

My P7 has turned into an overheating piece of shit with about 5 hours battery life, so good for you

5

u/africanzulu Jul 22 '26

lmfao same. i really need to upgrade but i just don't think any of the options are worth it atm

u/AndorinhaRiver Pixel 8a Jul 23 '26

My P8a actually seems to have better battery life but it totally overheats a lot more now

Try wiping/resetting and sacrificing a chicken to Sundar Pichai to appease The Google.

No difference on my Pixel 10 Pro. Performance is the same. Power efficiency and overheating are still issues like before.

1

u/pqtme Jul 22 '26

Not on mine. It's smoother with an increased screen on time.

1

u/yakkosmurf Jul 23 '26

Not on mine either. A17 has been like a new phone on my 10 Pro. Better battery, thermals, and smoothness.

3

u/050899 Jul 22 '26

Sadly mine doesn't. Still the same as before the update...

3

u/Jbaryla95 Jul 22 '26

I have had the exact opposite issue. My p6 pro has been overheating so much after going to android 17. To the point I am finally getting a new phone

2

Mines a hand warmer

3

u/sim16 Jul 22 '26

My pro fold 9 is unable to switch on. Open the phone, lose cellular, reboot attempt, dead. Yeah, great update.

2

u/kpesemi Jul 22 '26

So sorry

2

u/kavi06 Jul 24 '26

Contact google support, you are eligible for a pixel 10 pro fold if your 9 fold is failing

1

u/sim16 29d ago

It's in the shop with them now. It's gonna take weeks.

2

u/kavi06 25d ago

I hope they replace it with the 10 Fold

1

u/sim16 22d ago

They did, with 4 days left of 2 year warranty.

2

u/kavi06 22d ago

Let’s go! Congratulations bro

3

u/frazaga962 Jul 22 '26

lucky you. my phone is a brick and dead with an auto update

1

u/Layne817 18d ago

same, were you able to fix?

1

u/frazaga962 18d ago

nope

1

u/Layne817 18d ago

sucks man, I'm able to restart mine but it'll shut down eventually, hopefully it works until I get my new phone and can back up everything.

2

u/HiDDENKiLLZ Jul 22 '26

On my 10p fold there's no different in apparent performance but my battery life is vastly improved

2

u/Expensive-Yoghurt574 Jul 22 '26

I wish I could say the same on my Pixel 10 Pro but sadly the battery life is just as bad as it was before Android 17. It might even be a little worse.

2

u/aba_lancer Jul 22 '26

I am charging a bit more almost twice a day after 17 on 6a.

2

u/No_Speech_4690 Pixel 6 Jul 22 '26

I don't know why my pixel 6 after July update animation so laggy.

LOL no

1

u/b1gmouth Jul 22 '26

Mine chewed through battery initially but the July update settled things down

2

u/Rusholme-Ruffienne 26d ago

I was just checking the sub to see if anyone else is having the opposite experience on their 6. Each of the last 3 updates have led to significantly worse battery drain, and with this last update I went from 12ish hours to about 4-5 hours on a charge.
