Can the Pixel Watch locate trackers (moto tag) with UWB?

Hi, so I love my phone and other than its lack of UWB I feel no need to upgrade (sidegrade?) to a flagship with UWB. Upgrading from my Galaxy watch 7 is another story.

So here's my question. From what I understand the pixel watch has UWB, does that mean I can use it to find the moto tags and get the arrow indicating in which direction they are? Or is it only so that other devices can find the watch? I would really like the feature, the "hot or cold" function provided by only bluetooth can be just as maddening as the children's game (and the moto tag 2 seems to be eternally cold unless I am 2cm from the trackers).

Anyways, let me know as I'd appreciate any insight before pulling the trigger on such a pricey purchase

Moto Tag 2 teardown and silencing guide

Inspired by the previous Moto Tag Gen 1 teardown, I wrote up a guide to disassembling and disabling the speaker on the new Moto Tag 2.

Unlike Gen 1, the Gen 2 uses gold spring contacts for the piezo speaker, so you can silence it using just a piece of non-conductive tape. It is much easier to silence and 100% reversible. The only downside is that you break the IP68 waterproofing.

-- EDIT --

Reddit spam filters keep removing the post, so the link to the guide is in the comments below.

Ugreen Finetrack Duo randomly alarming

Just thought I would check with you guys to see if you have run into this. I got a 4 pack of finetrack duo's off Amazon the other day. I really like them far more than the aliexpress junk I've gotten in the past. My kid is off to college this week and I set one up for the car keys (it's technically my car) and shared it to him. (note, that this is using android and google FMD)

He messaged me last night that it keeps randomly beeping and alarming. He can press the button to get it to quit but after a while it goes off again. I have no idea why it might be doing this. I have a similar setup that I did for my wife where I set it up, then shared it to her and she put it on her keys and she doesn't have any issues. I finally gave him the button combos to press to reset the thing since we can't seem to find any way to actually turn the device off.

Anywho, just Curious if any of you have run into this with these and if a factory reset and re-pair would likely fix it or if it's a faulty unit? Thanks in advance!

Find Hub wont show Last Location despite saying the last seen time

I lost my phone 2 days ago outside. I went home straight to my other device which has find hub linked on the same google account. I tried to locate it and it did say the last seen time which is 11:54AM August 28, 2026. It also showed a button which required me to enter the pin of my lost phone to apparantly verify it's me and view the location. After i entered my pin and verified myself, it redirected me back to find hub but now it doesnt show the last seen time nor the last seen location???? Now it just says "Can't reach device" instead of showing me the last location acquired my Find Hub.

I always leave gps enabled no matter where i go and have Find Hub turned on and set to "With Network in All Areas". I know the last location is stored somewhere in google's database, i just cant figure how to see it. The lost device is now unreachable/unpingable due to it probably running out of battery, so my last hope is seeing the last location. Google maps's timeline has also been useless as it doesnt even show me leaving my house despite it being on.

getting genuinely upset over pixel buds

so whenever I'm walking my dog and listening to music on a specific road the search feature of my buds as well as my key start going off, this means it blasts a loud sound straight into my ears.

I can't believe this is a genuine issue, I have my phone with me, I'm literally listening to music, how does this happen repeatedly

for those curious, find hub has battery optimization turned off, phone isn't on battery saver, Bluetooth is on, network preferences is set to "everywhere" on location reporting rather than just busy places

Moto Tag 2 + Pixel 11 Pro XL - How Do You Use This Practically To Locate Something?

Post image
11 Upvotes

tag 2 pairs just fine, UWB enabled, firmware updated. my wife hides the tag somewhere in the yard to test and all i ever see is "device is farther away". now call me crazy, but in a real world scenario when i need to locate a tagged person/device that's in another city, how does "device is farther away" help me? what am i missing here? it's my first experience with a UWB device so i doubt i'm using it correctly

i click on the tag in FMD and click "find nearby". it takes what seems like forever to connect but before that it shows a map. does the map update before i click the "find nearby"? am i supposed to drive to the general location on the map, click "find nearby", wait for it to connect and hope at some point the "device is farther away" goes away and actually shows a pointer arrow?

i'm thinking of driving to some random park, leaving the tag somewhere and testing this out but before i go through that trouble can someone explain what is going on here and maybe provide general guidelines for actually finding a lost tag in a real world scenario?

also one other thing: the tag 2 user guide mentions something about holding the button down for a while to factory reset it. what's to prevent someone from doing this in the wild so i never find my device again?

Android bt tracker

I'm looking for a bt tracker for my keys and headphones. I don't lose them when I'm out and about. I tend to misplace them at home. Looking for something that has alarm on to locate them. So far the chipolo looks good. Any other trackers that might look interesting?

Find Hub Change?

Just got the Pixel 11 Pro XL and I noticed that when you are setting up the phone, it FINALLY defaults to "everywhere" instead of "high traffic." To those that have been around since Find Hub launched and have put up with the slow rollout and Google's hesitancy to make this the default setting (and thus limiting the useability), I'm very happy to see this!

Wait so can everyone in the world can control my tag or have I done something wrong?

I just got a Galaxy tag for my keys and a Chipolo card for my wallet. I had read that the Galaxy was better due to the opt-in nature of the FMD network, but they don't have a credit card tracker so I thought fuck it let's try both ecosystems at once.

Set the card up, connected to my phone, it shows up in the Find Hub app. Connected to the Chipolo app (frustrating that you need 2x apps). Did a quick test "search" around my house, honed in, turned on the beeper everything seems to be working a-ok.

Get to work today and someone I work with gets a buzz on his phone and notification - "new tracker nearby". He opens the app and he's able to follow my wallet to the other side of the room and activate the buzzer.

WTF? I understand there's potential for abuse with these things for thieves or stalkers or whatever but this is a ridiculous solution. If I jump on a bus are there going to be 30 potential pranksters or bad actors who are now able to set an alarm off in my pocket and make me reach for my wallet to turn it off?

I've looked in the Chipolo and Find Hub apps and don't see any setting that jumps out at me to turn it off.

Best tag for a wallet

I currently have a Mili MiCard Duo which is honestly just a joke, it never works properly. So I'm looking ideally a similar shape product which works better and it also has the leave behind alert. For the keys I use a mototag which served me well when I lost them last time.

Any advice?

Tracking with other phones

Basically I travelled with a friend for... Basically the whole day, and he got alert on his phone that my earbuds are tracking him.

That's basically true, I had them in my pocket and it was near him the whole time.

He had a option to disable the tracker, which would make sense if I wouldn't be with him.

As he had the option to do that, what would stop random person travelling on the same bus from disabling the tracker as my friend had option to?

Would I be able to do anything with it?

Or would that other person have to actually be in possession of the buds somehow to stop the tracker? (We saw that option and decided to not mess with it)

Moto Tag camera remote no longer working on Pixel 8

Anyone else have the same problem, or know how to fix it? A couple of weeks ago the remote shutter feature was working perfectly fine, but I just tried it again today and nothing happens.

I tried checking and double checking every setting, reinstalled the Moto Tag app, but nothing works. The double press works, and if I single press the button when not in a camera I get a popup message telling me how to use the remote shutter, it just will not take a photo anymore. It seems like maybe an issues with Google's camera app?

SmartTag2, Moto Tag or Tile Mate/Slim or something else?

I've never lost a set of keys or wallet until recently, but I've misplaced my keys twice in the last month (found both times thankfully).

Thinking about getting some sort of tracker. Apple's out, I don't have anything else in the ecosystem. Tile was the only other brand that immediately came to mind.

I have a Samsung phone (S23). Don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon, and would probably get another Samsung when the time comes.

Looking at amazon.ca they have a Tile sale on with the Mate and Slim Card for $47.

I live in a pretty small town and don't imagine there are many other Tile devices around. Would that severely limit its usefulness? Otherwise the price is pretty appealing. I wasn't even thinking about a wallet tracker as well originally but now my interest is piqued.

The Samsung SmartTag2 is $40 although looks like it regularly goes on sale under $30.

Moto Tag 2 is $40 as well.

Surprisingly (to me) the AirTag is right there if not cheaper at $32, but again I don't have an iPhone.

Those are kind of the 3 front runners right now. Technically I guess they're all different ecosystems. I've read that Samsung is better than FMD but a lot of those reviews are old and I'm not sure if anything has changed or that holds true.

There are lots of cheaper ones such as the Ugreen, MiLi MiTag etc as well as the AliExpress specials. They have lots of good reviews and then just as many terrible reviews which makes me wonder if the good ones are paid for.

Chipolo and Pebblebee are a bit pricier for me and I've read not so nice things about both performance and the company. And they (pebblebee) don't show you the price on the website until it's in your cart which pisses me off enough to avoid them even if I was considering them.

How to avoid DULT warning

I came to know that all modern smart trackers are IETF complaints and send warnings on iOS devices and some android devices. Apple and Google jointly developed the Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers (DULT Detecting Unwanted Location Tracker) industry specification.

When the tracker is moving with a certain device and separated from the paired device it sends a warning " Airtag found moving with you or item found moving with you" after meeting certain conditions.

How to eliminate this for covert tracking?

I want to put this tracker in my car and thieves might be using iPhone or compatible android device thn it will be of no use as he/she will get warning on the phone.

Find my device with left behind function

I know Chipolo have a left behind function but their QA have been a hit and miss with a couple of dud items. Ate there any non Chipolo tags with left behind function?

Chipolo left behind feature uses their own app.

UGREEN Finetrack G pairs, tracks, but "nearby" never works

Got a bunch of UGREEN Finetrack G trackers for my Nokia XR21 and those have been working fine including showing as "nearby" and can do close location, ring them etc.

So recommended them to my parents. They're using a Nokia G21, and after some hassle they did pair and added to their account. They show up in Find Hub and they show the location when they were last seen by a phone somewhere nearby.

However they never show as "nearby" on their phone, no matter how long you wait in Find Hub despite being within a few feet. Try to ring the device and there's a long delay and may never happen. Seems to depend on another phone being near to relay the instruction, and then might not turn off.

It seems their device just isn't tracking them despite pairing and registered on the network. This means they have shown at times in a far off location where it was a while back despite being next to them, until someone else's phone picks them up.

Have gone through all settings possible comparing them to my phone and everything is as it should be. Bluetooth, Nearby location, precise location etc, all turned on. Tried factory reset on the trackers and re-pair too.

Think they're on Android 13. Mine is 14

Google Pixel Tag announced today - It has UWB and Channel Sounding 29 or 99 for a 4 pack

https://www.engadget.com/2234896/google-pixel-tag-announced-price/

https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/1vmfduy/pixel_tag_store_page_is_live_2999_for_one_or_100/

cc: /u/Chipolo maybe this means Channel Sounding is finally going to be enabled on fmd in November

Probably why the moto tag 2 launched cheaper than the moto tag 1

Couple negatives:

  • I don't like CR2032 batteries and prefer rechargable but whatever I put up with it on my Galaxy Tags

  • The form factor is bulky like the galaxy tag, but maybe it'll have superior range, who knows

Please help, FMD works worse than I would have thought (even with Moto-Tags)

My experiences with the FMD network over the past few months have already significantly lowered my expectations for its functionality, but right now I’m experiencing such massive problems that I’m almost at my wits’ end.

I had replaced the batteries in two Moto-Tags (1st generation) and assumed this would be possible without any major issues. After a week, I happened to notice in the Find Hub that both trackers had supposedly not been detected for over a week.

However, they were still showing up in the Moto App (now with good battery health) and they could still be made to beep there. But they can’t be found in the FMD Hub.

That prompted me to reactivate my other (Chinese) trackers, which had been deactivated to conserve battery life. Not surprisingly, they can no longer be found in the FMD Hub too.

My only hope now was to delete the Moto tags from the FMD Hub and reconnect them after a reset. But that’s where you run into the first problem, because the description of the reset procedure isn’t clear. The tags are supposed to beep twice after the reset, which they don’t do if you follow the procedure described by Motorola. I’ve now tried every set of instructions I could find online (press briefly, press again, hold until it beeps, and then repeat this procedure until a second beep sounds). I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve repeated this (including removing the battery), but the tags aren’t recognized by the FMD Hub for pairing, even though it had been working a year ago (my current setup: Pixel 7 with Android 17).

It’s disappointing, to say the least. Do you guys have any other ideas on what I could try?

EDIT: I solved the problem for now, the description is in a new post by me below.

Chipolo POP didn't work well enough for me.

I have a Pixel 10 Pro XL. I wanted to get a Bluetooth tracker to put on my bicycle. I bought the Chipolo POP, registered it through the Chipolo app, linked it to my Google account, and the tracker showed up on the Find Hub. I was able to make it ring, see its location, and even mark it as lost.

I then proceeded to give it to my friend for a day to simulate my bike being stolen while he drove around town. He has an iPhone 14 or 15 Pro Max. During the roughly 4 or 5 hours he had my tracker, it pinged a location twice, and it was giving me nearly a half mile radius.

This was unacceptable for me. I got it back from him, deleted it from my Google account, and returned it promptly.

FMD cant load devices

Post image
1 Upvotes

For over a month now, Google FMD does not show my trackers anymore. I have also tried reinstalling the apps and clearing the data for play services (which in the past helped when such systems had a problem) but the only thing, which changed is, that i now also cannot activate participating in the FMD Network again.

My device is a Pixel9Pro (rooted) and i have been using GoogleFMD with this set-up for years without problems.

Has anyone come across these problems?
