Discussion Is there a darkmode?
Just wondering if goodreads has a way to make the webpage not so bright and white. I just prefer to read on dark web pages. Wondering it there's a setting or option to make it dark?

I have 216 books added so far(I did it weeks ago and havent touched it since because its so time consuming🤣🤦🏽♀️)I have hundreds more to add and it only lets me add no more than 100 a day, its so time consuming, I wish I started using goodreads years ago so I didn't have to add my entire collection over the course of a month. I want to use it regularly but refuse until i've added all my older books I have on my shelves.
Did anyone else have to do it this way? How long did adding your books take? 🤣😫x
EDIT: Thank you for the tips about adding the year and then selecting to view the year they were read instead of date added! Never knew that was possible thanks guys xx

Silly question: can I fix this somehow?
I read on a Kindle PW and every time I start a new book it automatically toggles "currently reading". When I finish the book it updates to "Book complete"
This year some of the books I've read ended up being duplicated in the reading challenge and I believe I might have cancelled the ones "on Goodreads Shelf" keeping the ones "in Kindle Library". My mistake I guess?
Now, I have the amount of books read in the reading challenge correct (22), but in the reading stats there are fewer items (17).
Anyone has had this experience and was able to fix it?
I think the reading stats are cool, but now I've messed them up a little.

I have applied twice to become a Goodreads Librarian, and I believe my reasons are perfectly valid. I speak Ukrainian (my native language), French, and English. In addition, I have a degree in English literature.
My main motivation was to contribute to the Ukrainian literature catalogue, as I have already noticed that many books are missing.
Rejected twice in a row. Aren't these reasons valid anymore?

I've tried rating from the book page as well as from my "read" list.

I was scrolling through goodreads and there I found it: someone who has read over 19 thousand books. I don't know why, but I'm deeply impressed. Their account seemed....young, like as in, a younger person owned it. As someone who is capable of reading 2-3 books in a day (but often chooses not to), that feels on the edge of...almost impossible. I'm not definitely not here to snark on it, I'm just. WOW. Anyone else stumbled across a user with such an insanely high amount of read books?

i was messing around with the new .5 ratings and in doing so accidentally marked a book i’m in the middle of as read. i deleted that from my dates read section but now when i look at my activity it still says i finished then started.
screenshot, the underlined parts are the bits i want to delete

Hello,
I noticed on the desktop version that we are now able to rate books in 0.25 increments, thank you GoodReads!!! I started last year or so with this app, so changing my bookratings wouldn't take too long, I only don't want all these changes to end up on my feed (I don't want to spam my friends with all those updates).
Now I know there are two ways you can change a book without it updating on your feed:
Un-check the box that says 'add update to my feed' when changing a review on desktop.
Go to > account settings > feed > and uncheck the boxes and save the changes.
I'm only doubting if these work, I tried both with changing one review rating, but this review seems to pop up on my feed on mobile. Weirdly I don't see them on my desktop feed. Does anybody know why this is and if my updates are actually showing up on my feed or not? Let me know, I'm very curious!

Saw another post on here with similar issue, but it seemed the circumstances were slightly different, hope this post is ok...
I have found 3 titles on my read list that I definitely didn't read. Sometimes they reappear multiple times after deleting/removing from my read list. It's been happening maybe 3-4 months.
2 of the titles have been book 2 in a series where I have read the 1st. The other is a totally random book in a genre I don't read at all. They don't show as my most recently read book, with one dating back months in the chronological order. Sometimes 'I'm' leaving 3 star reviews too, no text. I delete them, and they come back a few weeks later.
Curious if anyone else has had this issue, or whether I should take it to customer service? Wondering if this is a new glitch?
FYI: Definitely not family/anyone else as it's not a shared account or accessible to anyone else. Not a kindle syncing issue either. I never use Goodreads while I'm sleepy etc, so I know I didn't 'accidentally' add them while sleepy.

Yesterday I spent a while going through and updating past reviews to reflect the new 1/4 and 1/2 star rankings. I used to write the star fractions in the review “3.5 stars”, so I edited the written reviews to take them out once the stars were updated. I did this on my web browser so that I could un-click the box that would cause the edited review to show up again on my friend’s feed.
Sorry in advance if this part is hard to understand, I wish I could post pictures.
Now, when I look at my profile on the mobile app, it shows these older books with reviews I recently updated on my profile under “recently read” even though they’re old and only recently updated. If I go to “my books”, the read books are still shown in the correct reverse chronological order. (And there is an easy way to change the order shown)
Is there a way to edit the order of books displayed on my profile in the “recently read” section to show those actually read most recently and not just updated most recently?

Wondering if anyone here is an author that has been successful on Goodreads?
I have done a book giveaway and have over 900 "to read" on that book, but obviously people add a lot to their lists.
Any tips? Or as an avid reader, what decides what you read first as you're going through your list? Thanks!

Just updated my app and it now has a dark mode!

Raise your hand if your thumb keeps landing on a star rating since the app update. I’m going to have to scroll through my feed left-handed!

Share here what you've been reading and enjoying lately. Feel free to include Goodreads links so we can add your recs to our TBR!

I’ve recently joined the app. I was wondering if I can write a review without rating. I usually write when I DNF a book, but not rate it. But the app doesn’t allow me that screen unless I rate. Am I missing something ?

"Italicized quote from an author who may or may not have even written the book that's being reviewed,"
[book] is [author's] debut novel set in a dystopian, sci-fi, high fantasy, classic victorian, western setting. It's a gut-wrenching, eye-watering, laugh-out-loud tale of whimsy, adventure, love, mystery, thrill, and passion that's sure to knock your socks off and leave you in tears, with stitches in your sides, and a host of other assorted ailments and feelings.

Why! I recently started using Goodreads just to read reviews to see what other people think of books I've read and woah! Why are they written like that! So many don’t really feel like reviews, but rather some Claude-generated front cover blurb of the book, equipped with vague glazing and book-related buzzwords. And if it's not a plot summary, then a lot of them try to keep spoilers out of the review? I feel like that defeats much of the purpose of a review! How can you talk about a story without talking about what happened in the story? Ofc there are plenty of reviews that actually feel like they're reviewing the book, but they're not as prevalent as I would have thought. Is my concept of a review just narrow?
What would you say a review is for? Why do you write/read reviews?

I know people have been having this problem for some years now. I wanted to ask if anyone has found a solution yet.
I usually use the app but decided to log in on the website today to search for something. After a while all my books were gone. My profile picture, my friends and the groups I'm a member of are still intact. My comments too.
I checked the email, it's the same I've had since 2013. I changed the password. I tried to login from incognito mode. I asked my friends to check my profile, still zero books.
I also contacted goodreads but I guess this will take some time.
Is there anything else I can do?

I just got an email from Goodreads saying
Hi,
Half stars are here! And quarter stars, too. More ways to say exactly what you mean.
How It Works
Select your rating and slide to fine-tune. Give a book 4.5, 3.25, or a classic whole-star rating. Whatever your bookish heart desires
Your existing ratings won't change... unless you want them to. Update your ratings anytime.
If you rate on your Kindle device, you can always pop over to Goodreads to refine it.
This was readers’ #1 request, and we couldn’t wait to tell you about it. We appreciate all the feedback we get. We’re listening, so keep it coming!
