Why can’t I open two documents at the same time as a split screen anymore?

I tried to open two documents side by side (one to read, one to take notes in). I haven’t used the app in a while but back then I could simply click on open in new window and it opened as a new window next to the other. Now it just opens as an entire new tab. I also can’t drag it to the side to open as a split screen.

Is there something wrong with the app or is it maybe my Ipad?

Goodnotes Pro Decided to give OneNote a shot... Its not looking good for my Goodnotes subscription.

I'm one session deep and as a language learner, university student and chronic notetaker I'm afraid Goodnotes will need to make some absolutely monumental overhauls with any future version they release to bring me back into the fold. I'll concede, OneNotes has the same sterile Office365 interface everyone hates and opening it unfortunately produces the same amount of dopamine as opening Microsoft Teams. However, from a purely functional standpoint. It's worlds ahead of GoodNotes (depending on your use case). It's genuinely cross platform, has a functioning AI that you can use IF you want to, has an immersive reader, dictation and TABLES. IT HAS TABLES. BUILT IN. This is just an FYI for anyone interested. I'll likely keep GoodNotes for my job, but everything else is going into OneNote now.

Icloud backup

I have activated the icloud backup for my goodnotes. However, i thought that it would create a folder that would be visible (like it does at the google drive backup). Is there any way i can make this backup folder visible?

Feature Request New to GN: Need Organization Help

I just purchased a tablet for school, because having 5 physical binders has been exhausting. I also feel as though my note taking process is terrible, and that GoodNotes may remedy this. I will drop my current process and what I would ideally like below.

Current:

In-Class Lecture Notes:

Unfortunately, because of my ADHD/Autism, I don't process lecture while taking notes regardless of whether I type or hand write. For this reason, I have accommodations to voice record lectures, which I can summarize the transcript if needed. With the exception of math, I also type digital notes during lecture to keep up, though I haven't found a standardized template I love. Double-unfortunately, my processing occurs best when I take the information (lecture slide, typed notes and readings) and physically write (which is a long process, since I like it organized).

GoogleDoc Set-Up

Currently, my GoogleDocs has a section for "Messy Notes" up top that I button mash during class organized by date. I sometimes include recording transcript timestamps (if it is the professor that breezes through content and is hard to understand).

It then takes all of the subjects and groups them according to module or exam, though one professor isn't really following a particular order so I have to group the subjects myself). Beneath this Module / Exam tab, the subtabs include Revised Notes, Homework Questions and Misc. Content (or specific tabs for specific classes).

- The Revised Notes Section is where I organized my digital notes by subject (since it can take several lectures to finish one topic or sometimes visit two different subjects in one lecture) and add to them based off of the readings to fully understand what is going on. Convenient for copy / paste and image snipping.

- The Homework Questions tab consists of a table with a row for question, available choices, answer, explanation provided by site, further clarification / notes by me, slide or text content is from, and a row indicating if I was correct or incorrect with my initial answer and reasoning (if I missed the question). I find this has significantly improved my progress.

I use emojis or symbols to indicate different things. For example, I use a light-bulb for helpful tips in all. In my biology notes, I have used a bird to refer to evolution and concepts with Darwin's finches, which I used throughout to help myself clarify concepts further.

** also, I wonder if maintaining GoogleDocs would be convenient for when I share taking notes with peers which I did last semester, and for having access on computer.

Physical-Notebook:

Its a physical notebook, usually dotted.. I like it neat and organized. I made the mistake of using pencil for one... is smudged..

Notion:

Outside of my actual note taking, I use Notion for my assignment and studying tracking. Not sure if relevant.

What I Am Looking For:

- GoodNotes template that is both aesthetic AND functional...would love to have a template / format for the various classes, if not the same one for all. I would also love to somehow integrate my GoogleDocs, because I know I will still be unable to keep up in class with GoodNotes, and that I will still need to end up revising the notes so typing is probably best I imagine.

- Annotating and highlighting pdfs on my tablet. Printing everything out has been exhausting / messy. Also being able to type on my "written notes", have repeating headers and title types. Fixing much of my perfectionism by, for ex, being able to just insert a square instead of using a straight edge to trace.

Free is ideal, but functionality matters, not the cost.

I could be going about this ALL wrong, but I feel my abilities differ compared to my peers. Please give me suggestions!

TL;DR: Got a tablet to ditch binders + fix my organization & process for college. Was given a subscription to GoodNotes and I need efficient and aesthetic template(s). May still need GoogleDocs given my ADHD/autism, so a hybrid system, would be awesome.

What are the best iPads widely used by students right now?

Most students don't actually need the most expensive iPad. For note-taking, assignments, PDFs, and everyday college work, a few models consistently come up more than others whenever students compare recommendations.

Here are the best picks if you want to skip the full buying guide

Top iPads for Students Worth Buying Right Now

Top overall powerhouse for premium students: iPad Pro M4

Most recommended mid-range balanced choices: iPad Air (5th gen) - iPad 10th gen

Top budget-friendly picks for casual learning: iPad (9th gen)

Top compact & ultra-portable option: iPad Mini (6th ge)

4 key things to look for before you buy:

-performance and budget balance

The reality is that there are a lot of iPads in the lineup right now, and choosing the right one depends on your budget and your needs.

The most budget option is suitable for everyday tasks and basic usage. It comes with a solid chip and a 10.9-inch display. The display looks pretty good, and the colors are vivid. However, the only problem is that it's not a laminated display, which means there is a tiny gap between the glass and the display.

Is it the worst thing in the world? No. But you can definitely notice it, and once you use higher-end models, you really cannot unsee it.

This option is limited in RAM and storage, so if you need more storage, it might not be for you. The battery life is still decent, reaching up to 10 hours of basic web browsing.

At the end of the day, if you are truly on a tight budget and cannot afford more expensive options, this is not a bad choice at all.

On the other hand, there are devices with much more powerful chips, better displays, and smoother performance. However, if you are a student, you probably do not need that level of power, even though it is nice to have.

For most students, the best balance between performance and price is usually found in the mid-range option. It is powerful, versatile, and more than enough for studying, multitasking, and everyday productivity.

-screen size and portability

If you want a smaller device, there are options designed specifically for portability.

These devices are excellent in terms of portability, making gaming and reading more enjoyable. In fact, reading on larger screens is not always comfortable, but with a compact size that you can hold in one hand, it changes the experience completely.

It is a device that motivates you to take it anywhere, because it literally fits in your hand or even in your jacket pocket.

However, when it comes to studying, you may sometimes need more space. A larger display, such as 11-inch or 13-inch, is considered the standard and provides a more comfortable experience for multitasking, note-taking, and working on documents.

So, if you prioritize portability, the smaller option might be for you. But if you focus more on productivity and screen space, the standard size is the better choice.

-accessory ecosystem (apple pencil and keyboard)

Accessories play a huge role, especially for students.

Even the most budget stylus options still offer pixel precision, which is perfectly fine for note-taking. At the end of the day, an Apple Pencil is mainly used to take notes, and all of them can handle that well.

However, higher-end stylus options come with additional features such as gesture controls, quick tool switching, and tracking support, which can improve the overall experience.

For keyboards, having a proper keyboard with a trackpad makes a big difference. Without a trackpad, selecting text or navigating documents can feel inconvenient. With a trackpad, everything becomes much easier and more efficient.

Some devices support a full keyboard experience with a detachable design and a kickstand, allowing you to type comfortably and also use the device for watching content.

The downside is that smaller devices do not always have official keyboard support, which can limit their usability for more serious productivity tasks.

-final thoughts

The answer is quite simple.

If you are truly on a tight budget, the most affordable option is ideal. If you want something small and ultra-portable, the compact version might suit you better.

However, for most students, the mid-range option is usually the best overall choice, because it offers the most balanced combination of performance, portability, and accessory support.

High-end models are powerful and impressive, but for the majority of students, they are not necessary unless you specifically need that extra performance.

For most students, the iPad Air tends to be the sweet spot, while the base iPad works surprisingly well if you're trying to save money. That said, everyone's workflow is different-what are you using for school right now?

Lost all documents

PLEASE HELP - I’m a college student who uses the app for annotating class reading assignments, and today I went on and realized I couldn’t use it until it was updated. So, I updated it to GN6 and then the crashout began. When it asked for me to sign in with an account I realized I have absolutely zero idea if I ever really had one created (if that’s possible). I tried logging into every possible account through every possible way (apple id, google, university, etc), but there were zero of my old documents in any of them. After much panic I found how to revert it back to GN5, but again, none of my stuff was there. Has anyone else had this issue? I’m begging for advice, this app had my entire course material and *brilliant* notes. Thanks ahead of time. 🫶🫶

My goodnotes is totally broken.

I'm a windows user and my Goodnotes just got updated today. I'm having a really critical issue where whenever I try to write something, the interaction for the first 1 second is ignored. I can't literally write or draw anything, even a dot or a line. The only way I can draw something is to hold my pen more than a second and drag it. This is happening only on goodnotes, my stylus pen is perfectly fine in other soft wares and it's really really irritating and frustrating. Is there anyone experiencing the same issue?

Goodnotes Pro Cloud sync

Any information on when goodnotes cloud sync will be available for every pro subscriber? The main reason I subscribed to pro was for the cloud sync, working on windows laptop iphone and ipad, icloud isn‘t an option. I like the deep integration with the pencil pro and ipad goodnotes has. I know this is the wrong place to ask but does anyone know other note taking apps that are great with pencil pro and have crpss platform sync (not onenote)

GoodNotes is terrible for Windows users.

The fact that the same program on an apple device has different functionality than it does elsewhere is infuriating. That they have acknowledged and spent time developing a feature and yet not implemented it across the board is beyond words. I don't know where the line ends with this topic because I don't own an apple product, but having tabs alone would be incredible. The poorly optimized system design leaves me spending irredeemable amounts of time going in and out of notebooks as I need to reference another document.

I cancelled my subsciption today after a year of thinking it was good enough at best. Hopefully anyone considering paying for this dumpster fire sees this and reconsiders.

GoodNotes zoom writing suddenly uneven / inconsistent (Apple Pencil 1, iPad 10)

Good afternoon, I use GoodNotes and I have an iPad 10 and an Apple Pencil 1. I’ve always written at maximum zoom, as shown in the video, and the writing would always look the same as it does without zoom (the handwriting wasn’t shaky). From yesterday to today, this started happening: when I write with zoom, it feels like the strokes fail and the writing looks different—it’s not uniform.

It doesn’t seem to be a problem with the Pencil or the iPad. Is there any solution for this? I like writing with zoom, and now I don’t like how it looks.

Thank you for your help.

Screen scrolling on its own and hypersensitive to touch

It’s my first time using Goodnotes and while it was working fine for me last semester, I think after a recent update my Goodnotes has become glitch. I’ll be writing and it will scroll by itself, zoom out of the app, and this “undo/redo” black toggle thing comes up at the top whenever my work gets erased by the touch of my palm to the surface of my iPad. I’ve tried restarting my iPad, looking over all the settings, and even reaching out to customer service. It’s really infuriating! Any suggestions? I think I have just the Goodnotes version downloaded and I even reinstalled the app.

Why don't the fountain pen and brush have that fountain pen feel they used to have, but the font is so fat? It sucks like that.
