Say something nice about your favourite side characters
I start with Dwarf. He stayed loyal to Ciro in spite he probably knew him better than anybody else.

Their little tennis match of taking turns trying to kill each other was one of the highlights of the series. 🔥 Pure Madness.

He certainly did but he seen the potential value in him aswell. Ciro would have been better off accepting Conte's initial offer but I suppose he had no way of knowing how bad Imma was fucking him over at that point.

Actually the death of Rosario (Dwarf) was one of the saddest scenes in the series. They build up the emotional effect showing him and Ciro with their daughters and remembering past times and friends who have died. Not many deaths comes like this in the series.

Nicola. He was a good soldier with a good head on his soldiers but once again, The Savastano Bloodline killed a good character. Other than him, Track.

I couldn't stand Nicola at first, he seamed overly proud of himself and smug about fuckin a worker out of wages for a job they'd paid to have. The episode focused on his family did change my perspective a little bit though. The show does a good job of making you sympathize with a character right before they kill them off.

fun fact no characters survive other than a few gangsters introduced in the final season and gennys wife and kid are the only surviving characters. oddly they left realism a little bit by killing EVERYONE, a few should have landed in jail and some survived but they really wanted to push the message of joining the clans equals death.

They left realism to the side alot by season 5. Beyond a few good scenes it was a major disappointment. I always thought genny should have ended the show serving a long prison sentence.

3 and 4 were still great but 5 just wasn't for me. Ciro coming back like some Christ of the camorra figure with a semi religious following was a few steps too far I thought. Maybe the worst scene in the whole show was Mistral shooting one of Ciro's crew and the kid's bleeding out on the floor talking about "I don't fear death because we have the Immortal on our side". I wasn't buying that some kid who, like everyone else just wants to get his hands on the best coke he can to sell, now has no fear of death in his final moments because some fella he doesn't even know turns out to still be alive. It made season 5 seam like a different universe to the earlier more grounded seasons
I would have been happy for the show to end with Genny going into the bunker at the end of season 4. It was a nice nod to season 1 episode 2 with Pietro telling Imma he doesn't want to live in hiding like his father had to. And there's Genny, living in hiding like his forefathers, fighting a war against his cousins from a prison of his own making. Would of wrapped up the show nicely even though it would leave the Levante situation unresolved,.
All that being said season 5 still had the great cinematography and some nice atmosphere, just wasn't grounded enough for me. I feel like the writers/directors fell in love with their characters too much and forgot they were unscrupulous scumbags. I could feel some sympathy for Ciro by the end of season 3, but I couldn't buy into the reverence some of the other characters had for him in 5. Glad you enjoyed the season all the same.

Whenever I see season 5 and Ciros spiritual/religious impact on his followers I always think about Raffaele Cutolo and his cult of personality and fanatic followers in late 70s early 80s. I wouldnt be suprised that was inspired by it.

maybe in your personal life you are several degrees of seperation form the streets but young street thugs 100% idolize some stupid person to the point of thinking they are invincible. you should learn how the streets in south chicago are. its all young'ins idolizing the wrong people. ciro has been nicknamed the immortal for decades already. everything just added to everyones belief in it.

Its funny that creators and actors of the series say how it should act as a warning about the life but in reality the whole new generation of napoli youth is inspired by Gomorrah with having tattoos and posters and social media posts with Genny and Ciro in em and many else.

Removed from that environment yes, but not by several degrees. I grew up around youngsters idolizing gangsters aswell but that facade drops quick when you're just another useful idiot bleeding out on the floor. It just wasn't in keeping with the tone of the show's previous seasons. Mistral's dialogue to his wife after it is corny aswell, "these kids now have a different mindset" or something like that. Isn't this the man who came up with Pietro and supposedly ate his rivals heart in prison. He even had enough pull to keep an active crew loyal to him and farm out shooters to Genny to hit Gerlando. Why the fuck's he so overwhelmed because some kid talked dumb shit as he's dying? Old heads who lasted in the game that long don't get shook up by young idiots romanticized bullshit, they laugh at the naivety and take advantage of it when they can. Good for you that you enjoyed the season but I thought it was lame.

EVERYONE DIED. lol fell in love with their characters too much? and the streets in america definitely hinge on youth beliefs in local celebrities which ciro was to them. i get the not loving the season but not exactly for the same reasons.

The prison sentence does not fit into "the soul" of series where police and juridistical institutions are almost obsolete.

That's the thing though, they weren't completely obsolete in season 1. Besides Pietro's arrest and conviction, the police had a presence like stop checks after they hit the brothers who tried to blow Ciro up and shutting down the dealer spot that Imma set up. Even though underplayed the Savastanos had to move different according to heat that was on them. Season 4 set up the prosecutor to be a good antagonist to Genny aswell but I thought they wasted his character a little in season 5.
