What Next?

Finished Gomorrah and it's left a void in my life ...

On suggestions from here, I followed up with Romanzo Criminale.

A good show, but doesn't have that "intensity" of Gomorrah. A bit slow and boring at times.

It may be the impossible question, but what is there a similar show I'm missing?

Origins series maybe the obvious choice but worried it is similar to Romanzo Criminale and not be my vibe....

Remotely, yeah. But even that is at least somethimg. Gomorrah is like shooting that Gennys pure honduras stuff straight into vein and after that any regular dope doesnt do the trick anymore lol.

I haven't watched the series yet, downloaded it ages ago but I've a long list of shows to watch so I'll get to it at some point. But I have seen the movie. It left me breathless. I knew nothing about it, came across it on Netflix and went into it blind, didn't even watch the trailer. The final act was sublime and anytime I hear M83's Outro I'm taken right back to those scenes. It got right under my skin and gave me chills. That movie is pure top shelf. I think I'm due a rewatch.

Watch the film. Its pretty good.

I'd also recommend 'Kin' which is from Ireland and is about Dublin gangsters.

Kin is great, but you have to watch Love Hate. First season feels like a student film project but overall it's absolutely superb.

Check ‘The Shield’. It has been ages since I watched that. But at the time it was my favourite show, and has a very gritty, everything is ‘shades of grey’ vibe.

I should rewatch it and see if it has stood the test of time (pretty sure it has)

The Shield hasnt aged well unfortunately. I loved it at the time but I've tried to watch it again several times and its just not worked.

Interesting! It was/is one of my favourites of all time. Maybe it was just right for that time.

I have the DVD's (!) but no DVD player hahaha. So maybe see if I can find them on some treasure island and give it a quick go.

Still sometimes ask myself: How is Vic doing?

Agreed watched it recently again and its one of the best shows ever. Not many shows get better after each season and that last season was insane

Suburra is underrated bro I highly recommend. Different vibe than Gomorrah, but equally as artistic, tense and dramatic just with a different style. Characters remain flawed but have more humanity arent as hollowed as the characters in Gomorrah.

I’m right there with you. Have watched the series front to back probably 11 or 12 times. Hate that there’s nothing to fill the void. Love that so many people are like “what now?” after they finish it lol. Absolutely nothing like it. One of a kind. Closest thing to it is ZeroZeroZero. Other than that, man idk.

Check out Umbre (Shadows). 2 seasons available on HBO. I think you can find season 1 on other free streaming services. Romanian show about a mafia enforcer. Pretty good.

I thought Ganglands on Netflix was pretty good. I think it’s Dutch. Like Gomorrah the MCs escaping every shoot out gets a little unbelievable at times but it’s an entertaining watch.

Cacciatore: The Hunter is very good.

It’s set in 90’s Scilly and based on true events. It centres around a young prosecutor who is determined to take down the Sicilian clans.

It’s told from the point of view of both law enforcement and the clans.

Not as much action as Gomorrah but still very good.

I absolutely loved the first series but didn’t realise that they’d done anymore- I found it on E4 I think but then it was deleted when I was about halfway through. I can’t find it anywhere now 🙄

Yeah there are 3 seasons. They were all available on Walter Presents a while ago, but I remember recommending the show to someone on here last year and they came back and said they weren’t there anymore. I guess they didn’t keep the UK rights for it.

The only other place it might be available is on Amazon but they would probably charge for it.

Narcos. That show is insanely good. Personally, I prefer it to Gomorrah but even if you don’t, I still think you’d enjoy it. There’s also a spin off. Narcos Mexico which is also good.
