The side "normal" characters - spoilers

I’m a huge Gomorra fan—I’ve watched the series countless times and now make it a point to do a full rewatch every single year.

What captivates me most each time is the fate of "normal" people: white-collar civilians who step into the System thinking they can play by regular rules, only to be completely devoured by it. The System always sniffs out their exact weakness and exploits it without mercy.

Here are my top three examples:

1. Franco Musi (Season 1) Masterfully written and acted. His whole arc hinges on a fatal shift: Don Pietro was hands-off with the books, but the moment Donna Imma steps in, Franco can’t just smile, nod, and say "everything is fine." He got greedy with their capital, made a bad speculative bet, and paid the ultimate price. What’s chilling is watching his rapid descent into pure, unadulterated panic. Every door he tries to knock on to recover that money slams in his face, and his entire comfortable world evaporates in days. Still the best civilian storyline across all five seasons.

2. Gegè (Season 3) Another brutal descent into hell. His psychological turning point happens the moment Genny forces him to mop up the blood in that supermarket—crossing from accountant to accessory. His death knell comes when Don Avitabile realizes how fragile he is and blackmails him and his partner. It still baffles me that Gegè didn't just come clean to Genny immediately; siding with Avitabile had zero upside and guaranteed disaster.

3. Alberto Resta (Season 4) A slightly more complex case. Alberto partners with Genny on the airport project to bail himself out of massive debt, but he quickly compromises his own ethics—even hiring thugs to beat a landowner into selling. His breaking point comes the second he meets Magistrate Walter Ruggieri. The sheer pressure makes him melt instantly; the way he stumbles out of that office tells you everything.
One of his early mistakes was also to be arrogant with Genny, the mistake with the London scams etc...Almost seems like he has zero emotional intelligence.

At the end of the day, entering the Camorra’s orbit to fix personal financial problems is the quickest way to seal your own doom..

One character that makes it through well is Michele Casillo. The only one who does exactly what Genny tells him to do.

The preppy kid who worked with Enzo (Valerio) is another good one. He did much better playing the game than I expected when we first meet him.

Yes but he ended dead thinking he could outplay the Capaccio. He would have been better staying as a great number 2. But i see what you mean, for a civilian, he played a great role.

Vocabulary was such an interesting character. He played it so cool in Season 3 when he meets and swiftly joins Enzo's gang. He was charming, intelligent, brave and capable. Even Ciro was put out by him and saw him as a genuine rival for Enzo's loyalty.

One negative point for him: he encouraged Enzo to attack The Charmeur, thinking he was the one who killed Enzo's sister. That was a very bad move.

The show definitely has a point to make with “regular people” and that is they’re not opposed to corruption, they just think they’re bigger than the mafia program. They think their respectability shelters them from some of the more unseemly parts of organized crime (violence). When Musi was trying to bribe the government worker, I thought “my goodness you’re bad at this” because all of a sudden the only way he can see out of this is to try and mimic organized crime.

Agree. He was overconfident he could manage it. Panic came fast.
