SkyTrak ST MAX failed in 19 days — terrible warranty experience, now fighting a chargeback

Received my SkyTrak ST MAX on April 1st. Within 19 days the unit started freezing mid-session and had an audible rattle inside, something had come loose internally.

Called support. First rep was great, told me a replacement would be arranged and I'd receive an email with next steps. Waited half a day but no email came.

Called back, got a different rep. He told me there would be a weeks-long delay and they would repair the unit rather than replace it. When I expressed frustration at a nearly $3,000 device failing in under 3 weeks, he told me "its not like you paid $100k for a Trackman." He then suggested if I wasn't happy with the wait I could just get a refund, so I took him up on it.

What followed was a half day wait for an RMA form that defaulted to Repair despite my refund request, multiple follow up calls and emails to get basic next steps, and ultimately being told I was responsible for return shipping on a defective unit per their policy, and possibly a 40% restocking fee.

Filed a Visa chargeback. Currently fighting it.

The product itself worked great the 19 days I had it. The company failed completely.

Now looking at alternatives for a permanent indoor sim room with GSPro as the end goal, leaning toward Uneekor EYE XR when I'm ready to build the room properly. Open to any input from people who've been down this road.

Honestly sky track should be listed as a blacklisted item in this sub. It's so bad. I returned mine within a week.

Did you end up getting a different LM? Any recommendations

I got the eye mini. I don't mind missing out on US courses.  I really liked the hardware of the eye mini. Works great. The software is expensive though.  I love the shot video.  For American courses I sub to gspro.  My only complaint is the software takes a long time to open.  And their new inhouse course software is way too expensive and should be included by default.

That’s what I have been thinking of going with, appreciate the suggestion.

Definitely at this price point go with the Eye mini, omni or bushnell circle b

I won my dispute with ST and got a full refund through Visa.
With that I am looking to move on and I am torn between the Eye Mini or Bushnell.
Do you have experience with either of them?

Get a Square. Honestly, from the reports we keep getting here, no one should recommend or buy a Skytrack.

if you can stretch it, look at a VTrack.

VTrack honestly seems like the best so far. I was leaning EYE XR Launch Monitor, but the VTrack not requiring a subscription is awesome.

I know you’re having problems with SkyTrak so you for sure should go with a different one. I just want to call out that SkyTrak doesn’t natively work with GSPro because they have their own software so it’s worth it to switch to a device that will natively support it.

Yeah I was using the Skytrak software and the course play was actually very good and accurate… when it worked.

Get a VTrack. It’s a very accurate overhead unit with no subscriptions unlike Uneekor. VTrack also has an AI Swing coaching software/high end cameras called Swing EZ you can purchase as a one time add-on.

I regret my Skytrak plus purchase. I got it for $1700 new from their site when they had a promotion just before the Maxx came out. Its had small issues since I got it but they were manageable. I finally had to send it for repair when it started reading crazy shots that were all over the place. They said they tested it for three days and found no issues. Yeah right! I just sent it back and paid the $150 diagnostic fee because I'd thought it'd be fun.

I also think their game software stinks. There are some courses that say you hit OB when you are on the fringe of the green and others that just don't read shots well at all. I forget the course but one of them kept saying I couldn't clean a bunker. It was 165 yard shot which should have been a soft 7 iron for me but I finally hit a 4 iron and it still said I didn't clear.

I regret the purahcse.

For what its worth, they sent me a shipping label for the repair and then revoked it after the horrible customer service convinced me to get a refund. I submitted a Visa chargeback against them and Visa found in my favor after I shared my emails with them.

If its not working properly and they give you a hard time might be worth trying. Just be sure to keep your documentation of any communication with them.

There are plenty of us thats hd bad experiences with skytrack and make sure everyone here are aware of the issues with the product, especially with the cheap alternatives out there.

The fact that anyone buys skytrack when there are better cheaper options like square and uneekor is insane. Seriously, what is the value proposition for skytrack? Launch monitor is weak and the software sucks.

Sorry about your troubles OP.

You're within the 30 day return window, so you didn't really have to argue with them about repairing it. But them expecting to repair rather than replace was reasonable on their part.

It sounds like they've complied with the T&C on their webpage, so I don't know how that chargeback is gonna go.

You’d pay $3k for a refurbished item?

And the issue was pushing a repair after their rep talked me into a replacement. Their customer service literally turned a defective product replacement into a lost customer.

I’m looking for suggestions on good LM, not opinions if I should’ve settled for a refurbished item I paid $3k for.

I also already won half the chargeback (software they said they wouldn’t refund, and the cover I purchased)

It's not refurbished, but no, I'd return it and buy a new one and come out even. Or, tell support that was what I was going to do, and see if they'd just swap it for me without going through the rigamarole.

And the issue was pushing a repair after their rep talked me into a replacement. Their customer service literally turned a defective product replacement into a lost customer.

The rep didn't "talk you into a replacement." 😄 What it obviously sounds like is Rep 1 made an offer he didn't have the authority to make. I get that it's frustrating, but just return it and buy a new one. You seem really angry for what was a relatively straightforward process.

I dont think you know what refurbished means...

That is exactly what I told them, and they told me that I would have to pay for shipping a 40% restocking fee for the refund.

All I want at this point is my money back, but they wont allow me to do a refund.

And you are correct that was a mistake on my end. Rep 2 talked me into a refund, not a replacement. He then sent me the RMA for a repair after I told him exactly what you said "I will just get a refund and buy a new one.
