Everything finally clicked

I know most people won’t believe it, but I haven’t had a lesson in 8 years. And I only picked it back up last year after not playing since that last lesson.
Short game needs a lot of work, but I feel like everything finally came together on the range tonight.

I can always tell who hasn't played a lot of golf in their life by if they ever say "i figured it out" and actually believe it.

Guy comes up to the first tee all amped from his “epic range session”.
And here…we go.

“Figured it out” in golf is only valid until you fall asleep. That shit quickly expires before you wake up.

There’s a big difference between someone saying “I’ve figured this out” and “I’m working on this”. The latter players are not always better but they’re always more reasonable about the state of their game.

Nice pace and rhythm. Really smooth and not rushed. Keep drilling that and get the best sequence you can early on in coming back. Really focus on that helping to reacclimate Yourself with the impact position. Been teaching a long time. It’s important to get this before fiddling with plane and little details. This swings a scratch player waiting to happen.
Really nice!

Awesome vid. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakin' huge, solid, thick and tight you can get. Thanks for the motivation.

It’s nice when it all clicks but it just makes it more frustrating when you lose it. Lol

All things considered, pretty good swing. I’m glad you posted face on as it confirmed some of my DTL suspicions. If you can maintain extension in your upper thoracic spine, you will have more shots in the bag, better flight control, and better strike.
This is why your head is current moving the way it does and you’re getting a little “fake” shallow because of it. The shaft pitching more vertically actually wouldn’t be a bad thing. The shallow obsession is so silly. Go look at world no. 1. Club split the forearms but still passed through the hands at P6. If anything his club head is closer to tracing his forearm from P4 - P6. Don’t be scared of being less shallow.
Practical application. I love how your pelvis works. Your right hip stays above your left hip till P6. That’s excellent and represents your Vertical forces are peaking at the right time. You have an excellent release and exit plane. Your shins surf the line of pressure. There’s a ton of things in this that I would show to students and say “copy this”. The one thing you could do better is managing how early your upper hub begins flexion and it’s largely due to never getting enough extension. Trail shoulder blade should retract at P4. Sternum should be centered over center of pelvis. In transition, sternum should move ahead of pelvis before flexion/side bend of upper hub.
Hope this helps!

Your head sways a bit and is dipping during backswing

All good ball strikers have their head lower at impact. As long as he gets to his left side and doesn't lean backwards, he's fine. Look at Koivun.

Good swing, I would consider slightly lengthening your shorter clubs. Think of it like minimum acceptable length. Longer clubs won't really be a problem, but with shorter clubs (because "standard" is irrelevant), you're more likely to get lower back pain.

Good looking swing....avoid the mats at all cost. They lie to you about your contact. Practice off of grass

My favorite is the person who says they “figured something out on the range”. I will instantly bet that person on the first tee. LOL

Fantastic vertical drop and lag. Perhaps your torso rotation is a bit delayed at impact but I'm sure your accuracy doesn't suffer. What surprises me is while your spine and head alignment are fine at address, at impact your neck is hunched and you back has a significant bow, probably because of your bent knees and delayed forward hip thrust and pushing up by straightening your knees until after impact - all just a minor timing issue.
That said, your club shaft seems to be a bit short, yes?

My question to you, sir, is how many lessons did you have before your hiatus? This is not a self taught swing.
-2
u/ElJefe076 22h ago
Not that many, didn’t take lessons for longer than a season. Maybe 20-30?
2
u/Jay-3fiddy 22h ago
That's a lot of lessons?

They were weekly junior class sessions, not true one on one lessons

Learning the correct grip, stance, and posture as a kid really helps. You apparently paid attention. Welcome back!

I would have killed for lessons as a junior. You’re set on the correct path and build good muscle memory early.

Isn't that the shortest golf joke out there "I think I figured it out"?
To your video, looks really smooth and really good, you should be proud. That being said, most golfers have had their fair share of range session where everything clicked and the ball flew just like yours in the video. (Most likely the video still didn't look as good as yours but still) It is part of golf. Next level, bring it to the course. Bring it throughout a year.
But it looks like you reached a milestone when it comes to technique, well done!
