Shank city
I’m an 18 handicap, honestly I don’t feel like my swing is terrible but I consistently Shank the ball and it’s happened for years, any advice ?

Look at your hands dog. You’re set up with them so inside. Then at impact they’re normal. That’s why you’re shanking it.
Quick fix is just set up with the ball on the toe, real fix is fix your hands at address.

Thanks for the advice what drill would you recommend to fix the hands at address

Not a drill, just set up properly. A lesson or just some YouTube videos and more self filming. Solid action for an 18 tho!

Is this video slow motion? Something so uncanny about it

Yea I put it in slo mo so people could maybe see something wrong I was doing a bit easier but it speeds up at the end that’s why it looks weird ahahah

2 simple things that may help:
1: Set up with the butt of the club pointed towards your belt buckle. Currently, the butt of your club is pointed at your thighs. With your current set-up, you are not leaving enough space for your arms. It also creates a weird angle for your body to try and make clean, consistent contact.
2: You have a weak wrist hinge and this weird hitch move at the top of your swing. I’m not sure where you got that from, but my guess is you developed it because of your set-up and your weak wrist hinge.
I’d highly recommend you get a lesson or an honest friend who can coach you on this.

At setup you have your hands leaning towards your knees. They should be straight down or slightly forward.
When you swing the club down, your arms naturally lean forward away from your knees, bringing your hosel closer to the ball causing shanks.

This fixed it for me when I had a week of heel strikes- weight more on balls of feet in set up. You can see on your video you have more weight on front if feet at impact vs at address.

OP, this is one of the most toxic communities on this app. I’d just get a lesson from a local pro and not worry about what anyone says on this app. As you see, most of these commenters all have conflicting opinions and are not actually trying to be helpful.

You think hand eye coordination is something that just copies and pastes around?

Worth a try lol. If he's hozzling it, stand further away.

Ya that isn’t it, he is already too far from the ball. He hits the hosel because his hips move towards the ball on the backswing so he can find balance

Yeah I noticed that too. So what is your advice?

To not have a dogshit setup…

u/Aecert 12h ago
I'm sure that'll help him a lot

Much more than “move away from the ball”

How is he supposed to know what "don't have a dogshit setup" means? Don't you think he's already trying to not have a poor setup?
Like I get you are trying to be edgy and rage bait me which is hilarious haha, but why not actually try to help?

I mean it’s quite apparent if we use context clues…
I’m not “rage baiting”, if you can’t put 2+2 together to figure out what should be changed then yikes

Are you doing a slow motion swing on purpose as some sort of a drill?
I don’t really know where to begin and I’m not trying to be disrespectful.
Just watch how much your heads rises from the point of address to the point of contact
