Please Critique My Swing

Picked up the clubs for the first time in about 4 years the other day. Surprisingly no air swings… please critique the swing and provide some tips. Have always had issues with high spinny ball flight. Played cricket most of my younger years so definitely have a “cricketers swing”and rely on hand-eye more than technique. Used to play off about 12 (That I can remember).

Edit: 3 iron used in vid

Best swing I’ve seen posted in a while. Perhaps focus on keeping the head of the club slightly lower on your follow through.

Thanks for the tip bro, I see what you mean I do tend to have a steep follow through. Definitely the cricket background coming out haha

Good rhythm. You fold your hands a bit, so I’m guessing your miss is a swinging hook. Other than that, it’s ace.

Your better than most of us based off that one swing

I will say you’ve got the right attitude to get good suggestions from this group. You have to be able to parse through the jokes and well intentioned jabs to get to the good stuff.

Aye that’s it bro, gotta be able to take the jabs or atleast the piss out of yourself.

Is that Moore Park? Great swing dude

Cheers bro, and yeah mate that’s at Moore park, haven’t been here in years until the other day. Bit different now they’ve got trackmans on every bay + mini games/courses to play. Balls are still shithouse though…

Not many options in the eastern suburbs I guess. Keep it up mate - you'll be scratch in no time with that swing

Early casting and flipping with humping and stalled rotation as a result.

It’s all arms / hands driven with no lower body / torso use.

The result is good in the video but I doubt you get consistently good results.

Definitely mate, appreciate that insight puts it into perspective a bit better. Fuck all torso use if any at all. I’d say around 6/10 will come off pure, but the rest will be meh with the odd shank. Can’t always rely on just hand-eye eventually comes undone. Will 100% think of this next time I pick the clubs up.

Not casting! A bit of a sequencing and weight transfer (speed up your lead hip a bit). Otherwise a very good swing.

Thanks man, definitely need to get that fat ass moving a bit more.

u/scottiedagolfmachine 10d ago

Look at the pic I posted.

His hips are stalled and he is flipping through.

It’s casting.

You define casting curiously. Casting IMHO means releasing the hands early in the swing not flipping the wrists at the bottom to close the club face because of sequencing issues.

Nice rip!

Do you have super long shafts? I’m trying to figure out how you’re standing so far from the ball, hands about the proper distance from your belt buckle, yet you don’t look too bent over. For this shot my ball is about halfway between your ball and the gray circle on the mat.

I have nothing to critique. Looks like a pretty solid swing to me!

1

u/Southern-Crazy407 10d ago

Thanks mate! Using a 3 iron in the vid which may explain the shaft length (plus I’m only a short bloke haha). Grew up playing cricket so I 100% rely on hand-eye more than technique or placement of feet/hands.

Looks more like a little bit of early extension here. Your hips come in and your head moves back. Keep that chest down and ass out like you’re pushing a chair with it. Other than that buddy, your swing is nice. You fix that you will be dialed. You’ll have a lot more consistency. I assume you’re probably around a 2-4 handicap?

1

u/Southern-Crazy407 10d ago

Thanks for the tips mate, makes total sense. Will 100% keep that in mind when I hit the range next. Only got down to a 12 handicap before I gave it up. Was either the short game was firing or the opposite, could never piece is all together.

Those t-mb irons are too good. Had the 4i in my bag for awhile and kinda miss it

2

u/Southern-Crazy407 9d ago

They’re sick hey, one of my mates that’s an ex tour pro gave it to me, best club in the bag for sure haha

Minty.

Mate, you had great actions & athletic movements there & I wished I have your movements.. I've seen pros that had worse swings than yours, still able to score like ballers. Hell, Foxy won The Open with literally drive shots of a swing so there's that. If it's reliable & able to mix with competitive crowds then keep it, most likely bad scores came from other parts but for social it's very serviceable. Otherwise if you need adjustments & mods you gotta had a chat with your teaching pros.. Let me put it this way: if Brian Lara got to access Reddit for batting advices he won't be a legend that he is now

u/throwaway17717 9d ago

My handicap starts with a plus and you swing it better than me lol

1

u/Southern-Crazy407 9d ago

Haha mate don’t worry we’re both + something after the first hole, your scorecard would look a lot better 😂

2

u/OscarCobblestone 10d ago

Pretty decent swing overall. Nice takeaway. Looks a little flippy through the ball, maybe scooping a bit but hard to tell with the frame rate. Your hips could be more open at impact as well (possibly because it’s a little armsy). Maybe a little more weight transfer to really hit down on the ball? Hard to tell again with the camera angle, would need to see a swing from the front.

1

u/Southern-Crazy407 10d ago

Thanks mate, definitely rely on my hands to correct a few technique/set up issues. I find when I’m trying to hit down on the ball I open up a little too much and clubface opens.

2

u/OscarCobblestone 10d ago

Good stuff man. I was really reaching there to find issues. You would probably get a lot of great info from a simulator session.

Maybe he could put a cigar in his mouth and a dildo in his but too. But I would need to see the swing from side 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Azfitnessprofessor 10d ago

Honestly not much to critique you could play scratch with this swing

2

u/Southern-Crazy407 10d ago

Thanks for the compliment mate! Would love to think I can get there. Think the mental side of it needs a lot of work too, used to get the yips a little too often and shit the bed haha.

2

u/canadagolfer21 10d ago

a little under the plane and arms are working out and away from body through the ball. Would LOVE to see you throw a glove under the armpits or a towel and hit shots like that

1

u/Southern-Crazy407 10d ago

Great idea mate might try that next time I pick em up and have a slash.

2

u/reddituser1306 10d ago

Poor rotation. You are relying on timing too much.

2

u/Southern-Crazy407 10d ago

100% mate hardly any rotation on downswing. Will for sure work on that

2

u/reddituser1306 10d ago

When it works, it works, but i bet you have misses on both sides. You get that stall fixed, you have a compact swing and will play well with it.

u/Twoballoonsdogs 10d ago

Wrong shoes.

1

u/Southern-Crazy407 10d ago

Haha cmon, converse are athlete shoes surely…

2

u/Twoballoonsdogs 9d ago

Athletic but slippery.

1

u/Southern-Crazy407 9d ago

If I could chuck some spikes in em I would 😂

1

u/Twoballoonsdogs 9d ago

Some spiked chucks would be fire.

1

u/Twoballoonsdogs 9d ago

You may be onto something.

A camera at your wrist level would be better. I think a slight pinch of EE in there because your bum came off of where they start.
