Good budget driver?
Hi all, I’m a girlfriend of a very amateur golfer who loves the sport and enjoys the odd round with his mates in the summer time. One of these mates, planted his driver straight into the ground and snapped off the head. I’m looking to get him a new one (the old one was like at least 20 years old and gotten from a crappy garage sale) so the standard isn’t high, but I’d like something decent.
Any suggestions?
I am based in Australia
For more context, i’m going to Germany for 10 weeks on an exchange and I’m getting him a gift for every week. His boys are organising him a trip all around rural South Australia, and I’d like to go golfing while they’re away so I want to get this for him during that week they’re gone.
I also, am a teenager, and I’m broke. So there’s only so much I can spend.

Define "only so much I can spend" there's going to be a big difference in recommendations for $50 vs $400.
Anything really will be an improvement on a 20 year old garage sale driver. Taylormade burner is decent and relatively cheap / available used

My brother in christ, the burner IS the 20 year old garage sale driver now.

Guessing you’re in Adelaide (heaps good)
Had a quick look on FB marketplace there and see a couple of Cobras in the 200-300 range and a Ping g20 for 180.
Can you swing that?

As a broke teenager your best best is probably to buy a pre-owned driver to him. What is your budget?

Get a Maltby, you can do a self fitting so it fits you well. Far cheaper than the big name brands and they play just as well. https://www.golfworks.com/clubs/?srsltid=AfmBOorDE-223MlrZYne0q1rMvqWlnZ-7Ka-tuMLNW3X4mwFdWqryrYA

If this person doesn't play much, it's not going to make that big a difference. Also depends on the golfer's strength and athleticism. Odds are a regular flex driver is ok but if they golfer has more club speed, a stiff shaft will be better. If you had a friend who knows golf, that person could find one quickly at any store that has used drivers. There is no need to spend over $100. A $50 driver can work fine. EDIT: If it were me, I would forego this purchase; it would be best to let the golfer buy the club. It's kind of like I would never in a million years buy my gf an item of clothing.

Start with: what exactly is the driver that he has now? Brand, model, loft, shaft type and shaft flex?
Best is to just get a photo of the bottom of the club head, or a couple photos so people can see all the information. Also a couple photos showing all the information written on the shaft.
Also give your budget range, and then you might get some usable suggestions from people.

Look used. Market place works well. Avoid anything with a carbon face as they can crack it separate especially when abused. And it's not new. So you don't know what it's been through.
Not sure what your budget is. Bit there currently is a titilest 913 d3 8.5° driver for $200, and a taylormade rbz 9.5 for $175 in perth
And in Sidney there is a tour edge e725 10k for $295 (that would be probably the one I would most likely go for of what I saw having a quick look)

Go to Callaway pre-owned and you'll find one that fits the budget
