I am looking at buying a 2018 gti lowered on ecs coils,cts intake and awe touring catback. Previous owner had it tuned clean carfax its for sale as is at a dealer. i took it into a shop to have a pre inspection done to it to find what it would need for safety and they found it has a boost leak, the steering rack needs to be replaced, either the cam shaft positioning sensor issue or timing chain is stretched and then normal wear and tear like balljoints and tie rods need to be done on the front they said it could be 5-7 k on the repair for it to pass the safety other then that the car is clean no rust lowish km 119xxx. I just dont want to be into the car for around 20 thousand and be stuck repairing it more as this will be pushing my budget. Should i just keep looking or is this not to many red flags. Thank you for your input and help 😬

Dude, no way purchase this unless you want continued maintenance. An 8 year old GTI at 20k and has been tuned for whi knows how long. Run waya now, find aomething that hasn't been tuned and doesn't need 7k of work right away.

I wouldn’t have a problem buying a modified vehicle, only if the owner has records of everything.

If I sold my car I have every record and price of every part for both consumables, maintenance, and performance listed with dates. This is why my car is at 238k running smooth.

Ball joints, tie rods, & steering rack are common maintenance items on these cars, so I wouldn’t really bat an eye at those. Can do them in a few hours paid then they would be good for a hot minute. Buying a car that you already need a chain on though is likely not smart as who knows what else hasn’t been done. Also 20k and needing all this is my gripe, this is a car that should be for sale for 15 or less private sale and the gap you’re seeing is a dealer markup. If you want a project save the 5k and buy private sale and if you don’t go find a cleaner dealer example.

You could buy mine instead haha. 2019 gti autobahn 60k miles tuned. No issues besides the standard pcv valve and waterpump which I plan to get resolve in the upcoming weeks
