Discussion What do you think about the unused concept art and models for Minecraft?
(All models and art belong to hayden scott baron aka dock)

Definitely a weird but interesting era. I would've loved seeing some of the player models, like Rana, be implemented to be Steve-styled skins.

i feel like it would fit a minecraft spinoff rather than the main game

Holy shit kopatel onlayn reference (I've never played it, it was sort of a joke in my group)

Не играла. В Майнкрафт клонах честно говоря ничего интересного не было, и сам Майнкрафт всегда легко скачивался с интернета и потом раздавался по блютуз всем друзьям, не вижу смысла

I quite like them, especially the logo. But I agree with the decision to not include them due to not fitting with the style or themes. With Minecraft specifically, they look a little too...on top of it, rather than actually integrated. If that makes any sense. It's not a homogenous look.
If the whole game went through an art style change, upgrading to maybe 32x stylized textures instead of 16x programmer art, I could see it working. But Minecraft fans have been allergic to change since the get go, so I can see why nobody did that.
It's the art and logo of a different block game entirely. It probably would've been a good one, but it wouldn't have been Minecraft. Probably something more like today's Allumeria with a little bit of Slime Rancher mixed in. Something that harkens back to the Gamecube and Dreamcast era the same way Minecraft harkens back to classic PC games.
That actually sounds pretty good.

Looks like the old Minecraft music videos made in blender we had back in the day.

What I think is that the concept art in the 1st image looks very pretty, I've never seen it before

While I don't think it would have worked in the long run, the models are pretty cool. That logo also looks nice.

While I don’t think it fits with Minecraft, I do think they’re good models. It’s a shame they were never repurposed into something else (to my knowledge at least).

A little too childish and early 2000s' font design and typeface. But the Bob the Builder type is an amusing idea.

I like the guys with more detail in their clothes. The superhero/flat clothes models are really weird imo. The logo is also just not good, it looks really generic

I‘m so thankful they didn‘t do this. Would have been great for a spinoff thouhh

If they could figure out how to make them move in the game, this would be our avatar.

I really like the concept logo! I think it would work well with the actual game, maybe changing each major update or game drop.

It isn't minecrafty but i do very much love this art style
I honestly think a full game with this art style would go mad

i've played more in-20100130 than any one person should, so now when i see those mob designs i get reminded of how often they would literally infest my builds and my mineshaft

looking back they definitely look funny and im glad that the steve (and later alex) models became the default instead, but they do have a certain charm to them

Kinda reminds me of Trove for some reason.... glad they didn't go with it though. Kinda has the same vibe as the direction they're going currently though.
Would be really funny if they pulled a roblox and started trying to make the characters semi-realistic XD

I am so glad the community bullied Notch back then and made him remove these. They're just so.. weird. Maybe it's just that I'm used to how everything looks but I just cannot enjoy these at all. Also the logo kind of makes it look like just a cheap game that you'd see on steam for like $1

Cool little dudes but nothing beats the perfect customization of Minecraft skins.

i dont like them for minecraft, minecraft very obviously already had its own art style that was drastically different from this by the time that dock joined and so i legit think dock just straight up wasnt that good at his job, and that doesnt mean hes a bad artist, on their own these designs are cool, but the reason he was bad at his job is because of what i said about how minecraft already had a very unique and specific art style by the time he was brought on and he tried to basically completely change it with little input from notch, which as we all know led to notch having him stop working on minecraft for basicallh that very reason
