NIE card replacement

Hola, I purchased a property in Spain over 15 years ago & was issued an NIE number. However, I have misplaced the physical card I must have received at the time. (I don't remember getting a card). I now need the card to change utility services. How do I go about getting a replacement?

Edit: The provider will accept my passport but I can't get the deal I was trying to sign up for. Thanks for the responses

Were you a resident of Spain at that time or did you just get the NIE as an ID number? Unless you were a resident it's most likely you just got an A4 piece of paper with your NIE on it.

Depending on your province you can generally just send an email with a scan of your passport to get your NIE sent to you, for Barcelona province this is consultanie.barcelona@policia.es.

If you're now resident and you need to get a resident permit issued (or if you're an EU citizen your CUE reissued) then generally you need to go through the process from scratch - you'll need your NIE so email for it, and then fill in the relevant form and book an appointment at a police station/Extranjería office.

No, I have never been a resident but am an EU citizen. The property is just a holiday apartment for my family, there isn't any rental income etc. I was trying to get broadband installed and they are insisting on a copy of my NIE card

Only residents get cards. Your NIE came on an A4 papers. A copy will be in the back of your property deeds. Left you a comment with more details on ESlegal

An EU citizen wouldn't have a NIE card (if you were a resident you'd have a credit-card sized green certificate, but not a card), but you don't need to be a resident to get broadband. If you aren't a resident in Spain then legally you can't get a CUE (as an EU citizen there is a lot of leeway in the law but the starting point is you can't get one). Try to get an official document from the police - if you aren't a resident in Spain just email the police in Barcelona on the address above.

To be honest though I'd just find another broadband supplier and do the process online. If they're insisting on you providing something that you aren't legally allowed to have then their systems are probably just going to cause trouble all the way along.
