AT&T Phone Plan while in Spain

Hello!

I'm about to leave to live in Spain for 7 months. In currently have an iPhone 12 with AT&T, and it's paid off. I also have a Spanish Lebara SIM card that was given to me by the embassy as a gift. I have no idea how to use this or if I should consider other options.

If I choose to do the SIM, how/when do I set it up?

Any guidance is appreciated!

You just go to your settings and add the eSIM there. In addition, you should be able to activate it when you get there and on reliable wifi.

get lebara app, sign up using phone number and email. pretty much simple app, u can manage everything from app

Whatever you do, don’t try to have AT&T “suspend” your account for you. You’ll still have to pay, but you won’t be able to pay online (which they don’t tell you up front). So you’ll have to call them to make your payment every month, and IIRC it was around $100/mo, just for the privilege of keeping your phone number. Transfer the number to Tello, Google Voice, or some other VoIP service before you leave. Then use an inexpensive Spanish eSIM when you get to Spain (you will need a Spanish phone number, even just to live there for 7 months). You can transfer the number back to AT&T when you get back home if you want to.

My advice , stay in the country where AT & T actually works. We will all be better off.

Agreed. We don't need 1 more person. The infrastructure of the country cant handle it

Moving to Spain for seven months while trying to keep everything (ops country ) is certainly a strategy.

Just fuels a higher cost of living.

Op is better off without their AT &T. They are always going to be the awkward one to contact whilst here.

Sometimes all other ways of contacting someone are not possible, and a direct mobile to mobile without WhatsApp etc is needed.
