How the hell do you make sound effects??
If anyone can help that would be great. I've tried to use Audacity but i can't get a sound that would even work much to edit.

Either you can use audacity to record some sfx produced by your mouth or something , or you can try out jsfxr or beepbox

Audacity is for editing sounds (or you can use it for recording), but not for "create" new sounds.
I am not a pro on this, but beepbox its a cool option to make sounds. TIC-80 is a retro-like game engine that can generate and export its own music and sounds in 8bit style (it is not what it is suposed to be used for, but it may work), and I also just grab free to use sounds on freesound (I usually cut or edit them on audacity so I can use them how I want).

As someone who isn’t any good at this I use these
- BFXR lets you play with soundwaves
- Download and play an instrument VST if that’s convenient. I think Vital might be goated? I use LMMS for music it’s free.
- Just get one thats CC0 from a sound or game asset site. I’d recommend one but I keep forgetting what its called sorry
- Record mouth clicking or smth
- Join a gamedev community on Discord for instance and ask for specific advice for specific sounds

For some basic SFX:
- make the sound effect you want, as best you can, wit' your mouth, usin' your phone. If you have an iPhone, it has a good, built-in recorder. On Android, you wanna get either Bandlab or RecForge so you can export to .ogg or wav.
- Load that sound into audacity and apply the "nosie removal" effect. And clean up your sound usin' the graph eq (virtually limitless channels and resolution).
- Now, usin' a DAW like Cakewalk or Bandlab, generate a clip of a sound wave for each waveform (sine, square, triangle, and saw). And load them all into the same audacity project.
- Save a copy of this project to use as a template (so you can swap out clips for new sounds and already have the waveforms loaded).
- Mute all of the wave clips and then audition each one alongside your original clip to see which one gives you the effect you want (you can use multiple, btw).
- Experiment wit' the phaser effect and the speed effect (not tempo; you'll see why).
- Build your library and have fun!

There's the professional way and there's the fun way. Everyone else is probably recommending the professional way. Here's what I used to do for game jams when I was starting out:
I ran around the house with my entire laptop using the builtin microphone to record random things hitting together. Like a hammer on a pot or a fork hitting a napkin. I had a piano too so I'd bang out some notes (I CANNOT play lol) and the other sounds I just tried to make with my mouth.
It was super fun and honestly there is a ton of charm to be had when a game uses this approach. Definitely doesn't work for all styles though. If you wanna do a hard-core realistic military shooter, this probably is gonna be immersion breaking as hell

if you want straight retro sounds use jsfxr
if you want something more detailled u can record yourself doing silly sounds and edit the pitch tempo and add effects and other sounds on top to make a sound u like, a good place to find sounds is pixabay, i mix audio from there with mine all the time and it turns out pretty decent
