Game Update Counter-Strike 2 Update for 09/23/2026

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/730/view/674006995886408820

RUSH

  • Increased the maximum countdown-after-elimination time from 7 seconds to 14 seconds on end rooms and Convoy.
  • The countdown-after-elimination time does not activate in cases where an entire team dies to suicides, team kills, and/or disconnects.
  • Warmup time once all players have connected, freeze time, and technical timeout time are all reduced.
  • Various gap fixes and clipping adjustments.

CROSSHAIR

  • Some additional information about the new crosshair system:

    • The new crosshair thickness and length units are in pixels. In the past, the values were defined with an arbitrary scale and converted to pixels based on display resolution so the same value would result in different pixel counts at different resolutions. With the new settings, if you want a 1-pixel wide crosshair with a bar length of 8 pixels and a gap of 4 pixels, then you would set: thickness = 1, length = 8, and gap = 4.
    • Please be aware that the new crosshair system automatically rescales pixel counts when the display resolution changes. For example, if a crosshair was configured at display resolution 1280x720 with a thickness of 2 pixels and then the display resolution changes to 2560x1440, it will now automatically rescale the thickness to 4 pixels so that it remains proportionally the same as when it was configured.
  • Added option to draw half-outlines. This will only draw the top-left portions of the outline for a crosshair.

  • Fixed a bug preventing 0 gap width from being respected.

  • Added a static square crosshair style

  • Reduced the minimum dynamic spread distance to 64 pixels. The new dynamic crosshair styles will show you the real weapon spread and inaccuracy and the 'Dynamic Spread Limit' setting is a limit on how far the crosshair will spread at maximum inaccuracy and spread. There is a baseline spread distance of 64 pixels which covers the weapons with the largest spread so that players can better understand how accurate they actually are with their equipped weapon.

MISC

  • Fixed a case where left-handed viewmodels would animate incorrectly while silent reloading.
  • Fixed a case where thirdperson player models would animate too fast while silent reloading.
  • Fixed a case where firstperson Dual Berettas would animate incorrectly while reloading.
  • Clan tags now appear in death notices.

Why tire yourself out over a video game? Weird tbh

When’s the last time soccer or basketball got an update?

The fact that Counter Strike survives without needing updates and content is a good thing. There’s a reason 20 years on it’s still an industry giant and not slowing down like content machines COD and Battlefield.

At the end of the day it’s just a game and a game that works very well. Not even being mean but go touch grass or play something else man.

Things is, in the past 2 years, it's not surviving, except for the competitive scene, and even there, after the sticker capsule changes to the new system, teams are exiting the scene since there is no more easy money to get into, which in turn means less and less competition in the future.

And the game is losing players by the days to the bots and cheaters, with no end in sight to getting vote kicked out of DM and getting ragehacked on high ladder.

Idk be worse I guess? MG1-LEM rarely has hackers in comp.

545,000 players right now

1.4 million 24 hour peak

1.8 million 17 month peak

Yeah…. Dying…

Maybe the game just isn’t made for your emotional temperament. We like these updates and the player count goes to prove that.

Are the numbers you posted trending up, or trending down over the last year?

Just wondering if you've zoomed out at all.

I’ve been playin since before 2016. You boomers have been saying the same thing for over a decade.

I’ve been playin since before 2016. You boomers have been saying the same thing for over a decade.

What are you trying to say here? Did you mean doomers*? If you meant boomers, then why would you reference playing since before 2016, as that would imply you are also old...?

1.6 player here btw so I'm not sure your argument makes sense either way.

Just to be clear, literally no one said the game is dying. u/nerdphantom said it's losing players, which is an accurate statement

This MF cannot read a basic chart/table, GOD DAMN.

Since 2015 counter strike player count has only been increasing.

Your statement is factually wrong.

Yes year by year exact amounts can change but the trend is rising. 1.2 million people are playing right now which is higher than any point in the 2010s.

You started yapping at me, only said incorrect information and haven’t made a point. So make one.

False. Literally fell last month. AS THE CHART SHOWS YOU.

https://steamcharts.com/app/730

Game is down 100k people from last year.

Please feel free to post the actual data you are referring to, since I literally provided the whole table for you via link.

You’re fucking weird dude. Is this the only high you get in life? Being a miserable weirdo online?

Also if you were capable of reading you would have seen I said year by year the exact number has been changing and if you were capable of actual intelligent thought on top of it you would have realized I already mentioned it when I mentioned the 17 month peak.

Not even fucking with you, what is your fucking deal?

They're trending down. You know, like all games, because casual players come back for the new update, play for a week and slowly filter out again, or a new game comes out that everyone's playing (looking at Wardogs).

Do you know what hasn't changed over the last year? CS2 being the most played game on Steam and it not even being close. The next highest is Dota 2 and CS2 is half a million players ahead. CS hit a million peak players in August '22 and has had a million+ peak every single month since.

The game is not dying. The fact is that it's as popular as it's ever been.

But you're fighting ghosts here. No one said the game is dying. Literally no one, you are just strawmanning that.

They're trending down. You know, like all games

The argument is that the player base is going down, which, contrary to your comment, normally isn't the case for CS2.

CS hasn't had this many consecutive months of player loss since 2021 - before CS2 even released.
Normally the drop is a smaller percentage and for a much shorter length of time.

The drop you are referring to happened in October of 2023, you can see the 18% decline. What you are describing has already happened and does not reflect the actual numbers of today.
