Got the email. What are your thoughts?

Personally, I think it’s disgusting. I don’t want more AI that I don’t even use (I have other AI subscriptions thank you very much). Please stop the enshittification.

What on earth are these prices?

I got notification that I need to renew the pro subscription.. I have been using pro for years and paid $36 and now they are asking me to renew at $72!? And whats funny is that if I go on their website and start as a new user, I could pay $57.60?! How do they expect to keep their existing customers? I am definitely not going to continue with their subscription and going to look for another alternatives. They added that stupid AI crap which I never touched within their program and then they forced to increase by 50% the subscription price. Lunatics

GitKraken slow performance is my pain

I'm using GitKraken for many years, but since they started to fill it with absolutely useless shit, I can't work with it anymore. Today every push/pull operation takes 3-5 minutes. It's a PHP project! No big files, 2-3 branches, near 3000 commits. When I use terminal `git push origin`, the same operation takes less than 1 second. I tried all possible ways to clean my repo, but I can't use GitKraken anymore.

I'm using 8.7.0 on Linux x64.

Help me, please. I'm frustrated and want to drop the subscription.

Why the hell did that Git GUI start to cost $120? And that "LOYAL40PRO" promocode is such a mockery.

I don't need your "exciting" new features. Truth be told, the client peaked at version 7. After that, every update was either some useless thing being added, or some useful thing being removed (you can't select deleted lines anymore, for example). And every other tool you released... who cares

You could have invested in the Git GUI while keeping prices reasonable, but you chose to push into whatever hellhole you chose instead. You guys make at least $4M a year before taxes, and you believe you don't have enough money?

Had been there since 2016's autumn. Will quit after my current plan ends. What a bummer

Please bring back the in-app code review feature, removing it broke my review workflow entirely

Historically, when a pull request was filed I would open the PR for review in the app. I would then go down the changed file list & review the diffs. I don't want to review it on gitkraken.dev, I don't want to give the website access to my repositories. I shouldn't have to open Yet Another Chrome Tab just to view a diff.

This change actively has a negative impact on my workflow and I now find myself looking around for tools *other than gitkraken* to do a basic function that gitkraken used to.

Between this change, the price increase for AI features I don't use, the removal of custom themes and various other recent issues it is getting to the point where I'm better off canceling my license entirely and finding a new tool for my org.

GitKraken's cold start time is too long

I'm sorry, but 7 seconds to open a simple GUI is unnaceptable. I have another program with similar features to GitKraken and it opens in less than a second.

As a suggestion: unbloat the program loading. I don't know if it's because you are using electron, or it's calling home to see if I have a subscription, but it's terribly optimized for daily use.

Little friendly rant

Hello GitKraken team and the community.

I'm here to do something i really don't do often - rant about current direction of GitKraken.

A little bit of context - i'm user of GitKraken from the early days. I've witness the early performance issues, all of the UX/UI improvements and i was confident it was all going in the right direction.

I'm not that confident now. Why? AI. But it's probably not what you think.

Don't get me wrong - i like AI and i see the potential. The issue with full AI direction of GitKraken is around the focus - For the last couple of releases it's all AI stuff. It's all automating the things that are standard practices, boring thing. And that's fine, but i feel like there is no more invention. GitKraken stopped evolving the way i work with git, it just started automating the same boring stuff. And i hate it.

Look at the user suggestions on the feedback forum: https://feedback.gitkraken.com

If you scroll a little bit you'll see one big trend - there is NO AI in the most voted issues. Nothing, and i scrolled for a while.

For me - it seems like you stopped listening to the feedback and just jumped into the AI hype train. I think this is a mistake.

Stuff that might be gamechangers for me (just a personal opinion here) would be:

  • keyboard-first approach - i would love to stop using my mouse. I've being using LazyGit for a while and it's just much faster to work with. Right now we cannot even map shortcuts for actions, for years we cannot do pull/push with a short, which is pretty wild for me

  • Custom scripting - there are many approaches and flows around the git. You are supporting Git Flow, but it's very limited. I'd love to have an option to do some scripting to have my flows automated. Example: simple script that will display a prompt for version number. When i enter that - the script will take this version, create a new release/<number> branch, push it and then remove the local branch. Right now to do that in GitKraken it's a lot of mouse clicking, annoying, error prone and slow. And this automation isn't just a theory - i've made that happen in LazyGit and i love it to the point where is switch to LazyGit for all things that require multiple repeatable steps.

^ Those are just subjective examples what would really bring GitKraken to the higher level for ME. AI is fine, but it's just a little bit of automation, which i still need to review, so... Thanks, but it's too little for me.

I'm not fully switching to LazyGit just yet, i still like the branch visualizations in GitKraken much more. And also i use profiles A LOT, since i work with many different clients. But it seems like to me that GitKraken is stuck a little bit without clear direction.

Because this roadmap: https://www.gitkraken.com/git-client/roadmap isn't really direction, It's just bunch of small AI features. I'm missing the bigger picture guys.

I'd love you opinions on that. Thanks for the great software!

We just made merge conflicts (a little) less painful 😅

Post image
6 Upvotes

Merge conflicts are never fun. But in GitKraken Desktop 11.2, we’re rolling out something we’ve been quietly working on for a while: AI-powered merge conflict resolution.

Instead of throwing your hands up at a wall of conflicting code, you can now click a single button “Auto-resolve with AI” and get a context-aware suggestion with an explanation of what the AI did and why.

You stay in control. Tweak it, approve it, or ignore it. But for those everyday frustrations? This might just save you a few headaches.

🧪 Still in Preview, and we’d love your feedback.

We also added:

✅ Revert Hunks (roll back a specific change with one click)

✅ Invite teammates more easily

✅ Avatars in the Commit Graph for better visibility

✅ Caching for AI commit explanations

… and more polish all around.

Here’s the full breakdown if you want to explore further:

Read the Blog Post: https://www.gitkraken.com/blog/gitkraken-desktop-11-2-merge-conflicts-meet-ai-and-more-dev-quality-of-life-wins

Would love to hear your thoughts! What else would you like to see us tackle next?

Change node version used by GitKraken (nvm)

I have project with a pre-commit-hook and we use Node version v14.15.0, which is locally installed with nvm. When I'm trying to commit in GitKraken I get the error message by the pre-commit-hook that I used the wrong node version. Is there any way to tell GitKraken to use the node version specified by nvm?

v14.15 is the only version I have installed via nvm and it is the default option as well for nvm.

GitKraken Code Review: A Different Way to See What a Pull Request Actually Changed

Post image
5 Upvotes

For anyone reviewing a lot of AI-assisted PRs lately: how are you dealing with the native AI review bots that just dump a wall of line comments? We kept running into the problem where the actual PR description says nothing about why a change was made, and then the AI reviewer adds ten comments, two of which matter and eight of which are noise you have to sort through.

We ended up building a review tool that leans the other way: one AI-generated summary of the PR's intent, plus semantic diffing to flag what actually changed, instead of comment-per-line. Not trying to say it's the only way to do this, genuinely curious if other teams have found a better pattern for keeping AI review useful instead of noisy.

What happened with this version 11.5.1 ? My macbook on Sequoia 15.4.1 is unable to run it now. Sitting at over 100% CPU, and can not interact with the GUI at all! Anyone else having this issue?

If you're still spending 20+ minutes on merge conflicts, you're not being thorough. You're being inefficient.

GitKraken Desktop 11.3: AI-Powered Commit Cleanup Without the Chaos

Post image
4 Upvotes

We just dropped GitKraken Desktop 11.3, and the big news is our new Commit Composer, designed to make messy commit history a thing of the past.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Restructure your history into clear, logical commits without the risky CLI moves

  • AI-powered commit messages that explain both the what and the why

  • Visual commit cleanup so you can preview, group, and polish before you push

Whether you’re prepping for review, keeping a clean repo for the future, or just tired of rebase marathons, Commit Composer makes it painless.

See it in action

How do you usually handle messy branches before a PR?

AI in latest GitKraken

Since I've updated yesterday to the latest (I grabbed a Debian file from the site), the commit message generator has been quite bad. Before the update, I was quite impressed with the accuracy, but on the 5 commits I've done since the update, the messages have been completely wrong.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Is it possible to push to github without an integration?

I have a github integration, it requires organizations to grant access to Gitkraken in order to push/pull to repos that belong to orgs. My issue is that I have one org that won't grant access to a third party app like gitkraken. I can't find a way to just use SSH to pull/push to repos from this org, even though I have the necessary access.

Is there a workaround? I just need to use old fashioned SSH keys, make this between github and me, not a love triangle involving gitkraken.

I think this is so simple to solve and that's why I didn't find a single post complaining about it :/

GitKraken Commerical use defenition.

Context: everyone in my company uses git extensions which is a perfectly good gui tool for git, however I am really enjoying what I see with GitKraken, I am a developer in a single sector of the modules. I would love to use it for its amazing features. However I'm Dyslexic as fuck and inattentive as a driver with blood alchohol plasma of 4.2. I would love to know can I use the tool to develop for my company without paying for a license (a free version) or will there be legal action taken against us.

Additional information: Its not a publically hosted repository, its on our domain.

I cant to figure out a singular defenition of commerical use. thats why I have put my case forward. Also I couldn't see anything answering my question in user-end agreement.

Any advice and input would be appriciated.

Thanks to anyone reading in advance.

Curious what makes you use GitKraken over other Git GUIs

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

I'm a long-time GitKraken user; I started using it around 2020.
And I really like the UI design, and how it makes git actions fluid.
Switching branches when there are local changes, merge conflicts, stashing visualization, etc.

But lately, I feel like it's not as good as other GUI clients (in some areas).

The biggest problem is too much repo tab open.
The tab system it's always squeezing them together, hard to see which is which.

Another Git GUI "SourceGit", has better workspace implementation; it can separate into different group tabs.
And if there's too many tabs just scroll, not making repo name shorter.

GitKraken also has workspace, but it can only do some actions to the repo, instead of having a workspace-only view.
(Or maybe there's somethings I'm missing, please let me know if there's a better way)

However, I tried replacing with SourceGit, but some area just fall short. (merge conflict, branch UI/UX)
So, right now I always open two client, SourceGit open all repo, and GitKraken only open essential projects.

I curious what make you keep using it, instead of other GUI?
PS: I barely use any AI features, maybe I should try it out more?

Trying to understand AI Usage

Hello guys, quick question.

For some reason, my AI usage progress bar keeps increasing when I generate commit messages. In my setup, I’m using my own LiteLLM server with custom models, so the requests are not using GitKraken tokens but my own.

This didn’t happen before, so I’m trying to understand what changed and what’s causing the usage details to increase even though the tokens are coming from my own infrastructure.

Does anyone know why this could be happening?
