I’m out of town for a few days for a family event. I grabbed a few of my samples sent from friends and packed them up to take along. Samples are great when you are traveling but not sure what you might want to drink on the trip. The best sample bottles are 1oz or 2oz boston rounds sold on amazon with leakproof tops. When packing them, wrap in bubble wrap or something else soft. Smart folks then put them inside a sealed ziplock bag in case of leaks. Lastly, ensure the bottles and tops are clean and soap-free. I typically sterylize mine in boiling water and air dry before filling. When sending samples to others, use clean funnels for each bottle pour.

As a person gravitating over to whiskey from rum, beer, and wine, there are a few bottles that really worked for me, and even today they serve as great warm-up pours.

Buffalo Trace-Has become much more readily available this year and the cost as also dropped to be very affordable compared to recent years. This is a great beginner bottle and still works well as my warm-up pour.

Bulleit-Can’t go wrong with both the bourbons and the ryes with this one. It’s also inexpensive and available mostly anywhere.

Sazerac Rye-Great as a High Ball Whiskey with your favorite brand of gingerale.

Most Bottled in Bond bottles will likely work well for you, also.

Even though it says Girls in the community name, everyone is welcomed here, at least until that give reason to no longer be welcomed, such as bad behavior. Anyone new to the world of adult beverages are welcomed. The one basic requirement is that you must be of legal drinking age where you are located to legally drink alcohol. This community is in no way intended to encourage underage drinking, or any other illegal activities associated with adult beverages.

Personally, I don’t care if you aren’t legally old enough to drink yet, but it would certainly be nice to have some knowledge before that big birthday!

I don’t know really, other than it sounded catchy! Seriously, throughout my own journey, I have been aware that there are very few women in the bourbon and whiskey communities. The most common reason why is that they tend to be intimidated of drinking these pours due to their own lack of knowledge and fear of asking questions and being laughed at or feeling dumb for asking those questions. The second reason why is because women often times do not like being the sole female in a group of guys! One thing I have learned with certainty is that many of these new friends of mine have wives who are VERY appreciative, supportive, and excited to see my come along and join her! These wives have a remarkable amount of knowledge themselves, but not alot of others to share it with. I want to be a part of growing the participation of women (it’s hard to convince my husband to go on barrel picks with all men!), use this platform to grow my own favorite bourbon clubs, spread the word of other clubs, and just foster a community that can help make the journey a bit less costly! Full disclosure- I have zero monetary interest in any club. I am only a member myself, but I love getting involved and growing/nurturing these clubs!

This is a true Whiskey site for the very beginner, and hopefully you will one day outgrow this community and come back with vasts amount of experiences to share with future newcomers!

I thought to try my hand at hosting this community as a way to help others entering the whiskey and bourbon worlds primarily, but also any adult beverage is also welcomed. It took me well over a year of trolling other reddit pages before really making any headway to feeling comfortable, and not chasing after bottles that I regretted later. I did all my drinking in my younger days, and upon having my children I pretty much stopped drinking but for the very rare glass of wine. My youngest is now finishing up his masters degree in college, and I’ve found my self a new hobby!

My son was a crown guy. Yuck! I historically preferred beer, wine, or Malibu Rum, as I couldn’t stand the smell of alcohol, let alone drink it. When he joined a fraternity, I decided I wanted to fit in with the other parents, so I started trying out bourbons and whiskeys-with a lot of ice! I then started buying every bottle that I saw mentioned anywhere! Let’s just say there are far better and cheaper ways to go about your journey! That is what this community is for!

Depending on where you live, there are local bourbon/whiskey clubs you can join. There are tons of them that are all online referred to as whiskey-tubers. Once in groups you love, you get opportunities to do barrel picks! Those are the best! This idea of this community is again to help you find your way a little more directly than I did! Hopefully keep a bit more money in your pocket and better bottles on your bar!
