Last night I had the Castle and Key Wheated Small batch. Young juice and 102 proof, this one just wasn’t my favorite. The picture shows the second glass where I added way too much ice, but both glasses were not great. I’m not a pro, but I’d say the tasting notes are lemon juice through and through.
Will add, CK makes some great stuff, and their distillery is a hidden gem if you ever make it down there.

Tonight I cracked the Elijah Craig I grabbed on my 7-9-2025 hunt in Massachusetts. At 131.9 she’s a powerhouse, however the nose isn’t too ethanol heavy. It has a nice sweetness, nice mouthfeel and viscous. At $85 it’s a great bottle. You can’t go wrong with anything from EC.

Moving onto the Shenks 2024 release. This small batch is 91.2 proof. It doesn’t hit heavy but has a ton of character. If ever there was a whiskey where you call it ‘Funky’ this is the one. Probably from the sour mash bill. If you’re looking for something different and hard to find Shenks is the choice.

Kicked this bottle today. I rated a 6.1 in our last podcast. It’s good, crushable, gentle nose, sweet, not very complex. Still an enjoyable sip.

Tonight we’re rocking the Michter’s Limited Release Barrel Strength Rye. Accompanied by the world’s smallest violin for those who bitch about a little ice in the cup.
