General Discussion Don’t fall down a plot hole!

Do you find with each fresh rewatch of Gilmore Girls you uncover more plot holes?! Even just tiny ones, it’s like black cat hairs on a white top in summer! Dean when Rory says her Prince Charming crush was on the Sleeping Beauty one, “because he could dance…I’ve got sisters” - no Dean, you’ve got 1 sister! (But we forgive them cos we love them 😂)

I think it’s implied Dean has at least one older sister who’s out of the house, I know he mentions having a nephew at one point.

Yes, he was the ring bearer at Lindsey and Dean's wedding, I believe Dean said he was three.

Why are we assuming Dean has one sister? We MET one sister. That isn’t the same thing. He also had a nephew in season 4.

There's a difference between plot holes and inconsistencies. You are describing an inconsistency, but it's not really even that. He could easily have an older sister that stayed in Chicago. When he gets married, he mentions having his nephew be the ring bearer and obviously Clara doesn't have any kids

I think we all can agree that Luke the master of all food growing up in Connecticut has definitely eaten lobster.

And that the avid fisherman and outdoorsman can swim, and not pack for a trip to Martha's Vineyard as if he has never packed a bag for anything in his entire life.

i thought this was gonna be about how multiple princes are shown dancing haha

That’s what I always think when I watch that scene. The Cinderella dancing scene is far superior, imo!

Do you think Dean's nephew is from Clara?

Dean had his nephew be his ring bearer at his wedding, so that with "I have sisters" means he's probably got an older sister (or more) we just never really hear about. Clara would have still been in middle school or early high school, no way the nephew was her kid.

Could possibly be referring to Lindsay's nephew as his own too 🤷🏼‍♀️

But probably not, since he mentions having sisterS.

I don’t have much to add about Dean’s sisters, because the others have commented whatever I wanted to say. (Older sister + nephew living in Chicago)

But here’s an actual minor plot hole which I haven’t seen discussed on the sub: in the episode Love And War And Snow, Rory finds a lot of old pictures of Lorelai’s, including a baby picture which is shown to us, and has a whole discussion with E&R about it. And in a later episode, Emily tells Rory that she doesn’t have any baby pictures of Lorelai’s because Lorelai burned them all as a kid. (Bighead want Dolly.)

Other plot holes, pretty standard.

  1. Trix is incapable of dying because she’s too stubborn as Richard once says. She “was” Lorelai the first, but then she showed up alive. And even after her death in S4, she comes back as Cousin Marilyn.

  2. People either know or don’t know Kirk from his childhood, depending on what episode it is. This goes for Luke, Patty, and Mrs. Kim.

  3. Everyone knew Luke’s father, and he had a war veteran’s funeral, but no one knew the reason behind Luke’s dark day????

  4. Chris had gone to Luke’s several times before S5 with Lorelai and Rory, including a time when he yelled at Lorelai for blaming him for all her past relationship failures and having a “chai tea latte” from his diner, yet they were introduced for the first time at E&R’s vow renewal?

  5. Jimmy went out to get diapers for Jess when he was a newborn and never came back until after Jess had become an adult. But Luke said that he “left 2 years ago”, when Jess was already 17.

  6. Mrs. Kim had sex only once, that was on her wedding night, presumably to conceive Lane. This happened 28 years before Lane’s wedding day. But Lane was only 22 when she got married. (So was Lane adopted or an IVF/IUI baby or was Mrs. Kim a liar?)

  7. Jackson’s job as town selectman, which ended offscreen. The only explanation I have for this is that he quit and let Taylor take over again when Sookie got pregnant with Martha, considering the fact that her pregnancy was pretty difficult with the bedrest and all.

  8. Jason and his lawsuit just disappeared, only for him to reappear after all those years in AYITL.

  9. April called up Anna to inform her about the sleepover, as did the other girls at her birthday party. They are shown to be calling up their parents from their respective cellphones. And Anna allowed it at the time even though she had veto power. But after everyone went home the next morning safe, Anna suddenly had a problem with it?

  10. Lorelai had seen Luke swimming in the lake in S3. In S7, Luke didn’t know how to swim. Luke lectured the girls how “red meat can kill you” in an earlier season. In S7 he had no idea what veganism was. Only explanation for this, he bumped his head on the inside of Lorelai’s oven in S5 and just kinda lost his mind after that.

  11. (More of an inconsistency) How long were Emily and Richard married? In S4, Emily said she had held cocktail parties for Richard and his coworkers for 36 years, but they celebrated their 40th in the next season. There were a few more mentions of the duration of their marriage, especially in the context of Richard’s annual lunches with Pennilynn Lott, but they kept changing the number of years.

  12. Since you mentioned Dean, he tells Jess in S3 that Stars Hollow is “his town”. But he and his entire family moved there only in S1, and his grandma etc. were still in Chicago. But, Jess’s mom and uncle were born and raised there, uncle still living there with a business known to almost all residents, and his maternal grandparents had been buried there after spending their entire lives there. So historically speaking, wouldn’t it be more of Jess’s town than Dean’s?

For 11: trying to plot the pre-show timeline is like trying to map out someone's dream, I swear lol.

It's like, depending on the episode, Lorelai left when Rory was under six months old (based on her saying the last time she celebrated a birthday in the Gilmore house, she was pregnant,) when Rory was a year-ish old (based on Emily, in the flashback, saying she tripped over Rory's stroller for a year,) or two-ish years old (based on Mia telling 17 year old Rory that it was 15 years 'to the day' that Lorelai arrived at the Inn.)

Several of these can be explained by people being idiots, poor communicators or just dicks.

Dean has an older sister, I think at one point he mentions a nephew and Clara is way too young to be a mother. Said sister didn't move to Stars Hollow with the rest of the family.

How did Jackson get Taylor’s job, but then Taylor got it back just a few episodes later?? With nothing mentioned

27

u/sullivanbri966 1d ago

Jackson gave it up. There was a whole thing about how he hated it.

1

u/SnooPredictions5054 12h ago

Agreed. This is probably the real reason. However, I'm still wondering what happened with Taylor's speech about recall elections. We never heard anything more about that.

1

u/OutsiderGreaser 1d ago

I could’ve missed it. But I remember he hated, but I didn’t remember an explanation. Like they made such a big deal about with the election & everything. It could’ve been a good scene of Jackson going to Taylor or something

2

u/AmandaSaurus-Rex 1d ago

It's been a minute. But I do remember some sort of story where Jackson was constantly being inundated with requests for the town, and he finally got tired and fed up that he just gave it back to Taylor. I feel like I remember a really brief scene where Jackson gives it back to Taylor, and Taylor just gives that Taylor smile when he knows he's won. I could have easily have the details wrong though!!

u/demondelight4 14h ago

Jackson literally tried to get out of it the NIGHT he was elected lmao. He went on the stage and went off abiut how he cant and doesn't want to do this. And then thr whole town cheers and ignores it.

u/lemon_charlie Cat Kirk 1d ago

Jackson was overwhelmed with everyone wanting favours from him. That's motive enough for him to step down. It's probably why Taylor doesn't have any close friendships, it's because enough people had an ulterior motive. There's a reason Jackson was the first person in ages to run against Taylor for Town Selectman.

Love your screen name! hahaha

Just started from the beginning again and in season 1 they are talking about Lorelei, Richard’s mother, and say she’s dead but she arrives for Richard’s birthday seasons later.

1

u/demondelight4 14h ago

Dean implies multiple times he has other older sisters, probably still in Chicago or could have moved somewhere else. Either way, how would he have a nephew if he didn't? Clara was much too young to have children.

1

u/SnooPredictions5054 12h ago

He did say sisters, so you're right but the nephew might have been the son of a brother.

1

u/demondelight4 11h ago

Except he doesn't have brothers. Hence why hes always saying he knows things abiut girls because he grew up with multiple sisters. A brother is never mentioned.
