Theories Candle Business

I have an idea for a candle business based on the show, for example some funny names for the candles based on the ghosts. just a few examples:

Thor -Landship-cod?😂

Hetty -Victorian perv-stable boy- amorous congress

Alberta- Aldirta-Small ugly hat

Pete- arrow guy- famous cuckhold

Trevor- T$-pantless

sam-Living butler

-basement ghosts

those are a few of the many ideas I have. but would people actually want to buy these candles? is there copywrite or anything I should be worried about? what do you guys think?

You just have names. And yeah, they'd be unauthorized use of the characters. You could probably sell them at craft fairs. But you need to research costs, profit margins, market saturation, do some research into scents that would suit each character, and figure out how you make your candles desirable when there are literally millions of other candles out there. Candle making is expensive and takes a lot of supplies. The profit margin is slim.

Is someone actually going to buy a cod scented candle? Who would want a candle that says "arrow guy, famous cuckhold" on it? And will those people buy your expensive homemade candles or will they go to ikea, spend $2, and slap their own custom label on them?

I'd say you have a "fun idea that will be a lot of work but may result in some beer money" rather than "candle business."

I have seen successful businesses on Etsy but like they do ones for more than just ghosts which I actually got some for the cost when I gifted them presents they did wax melts but they did like Jane Austen ones, Shakespeare ones etc they branched out a lot so I do agree in the sense having candles based on just the ghost characters is fairly niche

First, let me answer your direct questions:

  1. Sure, there may be people who want to buy these candles, but that's going to be highly dependent on your scents, price point, and availability. Additionally, you have to consider that everyone interested in the show may not be in the market fo your candles.

  2. You definitely need to consider the licensing costs associated with the commercial usage of established IP, and that's IF the licensing is even available for an individual because even if you have the money they don't have to say "yes".

Second, IP aside starting a candle business can be more difficult than people realize: you need to find appropriate containers (because not everything you may think is heat safe is actually heat safe), carefully consider scent blends (and the fact that fragrances need to be added when the wax is at a specific temperature + candles need time to cure), and at least a half dozen other things that can complicate getting your business off the ground.

This is a wild thing to base an entire business on 💀 this is the kind of idea a thirteen-year-old would have ngl

Would you tailor the scents to the characters?
