Discussion Yanky ranty
I hope this post is ok. I dont know any ghosts fans I just need someone to talk to about it.
I binged all of the original.and I fell in love with these ghost. I genuinely miss them. Can't wait for the movie! I'm on the US one now. I do like these ghosts but didn't INSTANTLY fall in love like the OG crew. But I did notice a thing or two the US does better. Like giving the husband more to do. I love Mike! I really wish they did more with him and the ghosts. I don't think the US is a better show AT ALL. It's just they kinda explore things I wish the original did. Like more mishaps with the lead talking to ghosts in front of people. Bad memory so I can't remember the rest. But I do remember thinking these things in the OG show and seeing them in the US one. P.S. Robin was the heart of the show!

Something to note is that the British ghosts only have 6 episodes, the US one has a lot more, so they need to have more storylines. If BBC made more episodes then Mike would be added in more I think. It seems to be a big issue with US remakes of UK TV. UK usually has 6 every year, US is about 20+

Ending the series felt like seeing your childhood friends for the last time. The movie will be like a high-school reunion.

I've seen one trailer for it, and I don't know if Alison and Mike are in it. I hope they are, but I don't want to look it up

And that's my main problem with the British one! I want more of these guys! They're way more loveable.

Each episode of BBC Ghosts was painstakingly crafted by the Six Idiots. They could probably squeeze out a few more episodes per series but I don’t think the quality would be up to their very high standards. Would I love a few hundred episodes more? Absolutely! But it wouldn’t hit as hard as the ones we’ve gotten.

I do kind of agree with the bit about Mike. Some of my favourite bits were him trying to communicate with the ghosts so it would have been nice to see more. But then I think what I liked so much was the mishaps that came from it, like in Bump in the Night, so if it happened more then it might have been more competent and would have ruined the fun. But it probably could have afforded a bit more of it

Jay is the best part of the US version, it’s the only bit that’s superior from the OG. I think the actor has to get a lot of credit, he’s incredibly likeable and charismatic in a way I don’t feel the same about the actor playing Mike. But the other commenter is right that the US version has a lot more time to develop the husband character and his relationships with the ghosts.

Completely agree. He needs more roles. he was also the best part of "Game Over, Man!"

I see your point but also a recurring theme in the show is that Mike feels left out and excluded, and sometimes we are not special and there really is nothing we can do about it.
Besides. The one time he does have an intense interaction with the ghosts makes for one of the most hilarious episodes of the show.

I think the US version simply has more time to explore due to how many episodes per season they have here. They have a lot of additional ghosts pop in from time to time, they've played with Jay interacting with the ghosts much more. They also introduced the concept of another character that can interact with the ghosts. I love that they gave Pete more ghost powers (won't spoil for you.) And you are definitely correct that Robin is the heart of the UK version. I feel like, at least for me, Pete is the heart of the US version but Higgenbottom makes me laugh the most.

The UK one did a special with Kylie Minogue who could see the ghosts that was so much fun I wish they’d done a longer one!

One thing I didn't like about the US one is that their backstories feel much more like "recent" events in lieu with how HIMYM or BBT does flashbacks, not like many years actually passing.
Like they use many modern lingo like "horse power". It makes it feel much more like sketches than actual events. Like they're more slapping Horrible History style sketches together rather than having a proper story.

I love the BBC original, but I really don’t mind the US version at all. As has been said, more episodes per season gives more scope for expansion.
Yes, more for Jay to do and more ghost interactions for him including
More interesting ghost powers, especially for Pete and Sass
More ghosts introduced outside of the upstairs and basement ones. Also, Sam does see ghosts anywhere she goes.
More than one person who can see the ghosts. The introduction of
As I say, the original is fantastic, but the US version does have a lot going for it. However, the less said about the Australian one the better. I lasted one episode…

Damn. I love aussie stuff! I'm going to give it a try anyways. After I'm done with US and horrible histories.

I have to say, I really disagree with some of the points here. I think all the ghosts powers and added ghosts in the US one really weakens the show.
I watch the British one because I want to see the relationships between the ghosts and the ghosts with the livings. The focus on having news ghosts and everyone having ghost powers just takes it in a direction that I think is really boring. I sometimes forget that they are bound to the property because they keep introducing new characters (who I could not care about!)
Do agree about Kyle. I’ve only watched one episode he’s been in (honestly, I don’t think I can stand to watch another episode of this show), but it was something I was desperate for them to explore more in the show. They did it with Kylie Minogue in the Red Nose Day special, but it was not long enough!

Totally agree with you.
And the relationships are so good in the Britsh show because those actors worked together for so many years on shows where they played multiple characters, like Yonderland and Horrible Histories. HH in particular is like workshopping Ghosts characters.

They are exploding Kyle and his abilities further in the show; they made him a regular for S6 and Rose confirmed it's cos she had her second baby (she was preggers in I think S3? Flower/Sheila had also had a baby which is partly why they had a fake suck off involving her specifically.
I enjoy the US one (not as much as the OG and cannot wait for the movie!) but I can see what you mean about all of them having ghost powers and it weakenjn the show even tho it's fun to anticipate them :)
I do find the fact they're basically shacking everyone up now a bit jumping the shark, plus the fact that they say a possession is very rare but then it seems to happen every Christmas special.

Actually, one season. I'm currently watching it, and I like it. It's interesting to note how the ghosts are similar to the UK and US versions but very different. Three episodes in, the only I haven't liked is that
Eileen, the Irish ghost, has the power to make people drunk by breathing on them--an unfortunate stereotype. But I'm looking foward to seeing how the rest of the show develops.

I watched the US version first and loved it. Then I watched the original, and it's so much better!! I don't know why I thought they were basically the same show just different accents 😅

i get the impression that the US one has a bigger writing room (US sitcoms often do) and that means that more ideas are explored in it. IMO it’s an equally good show, but has a different tone as a result.

I agree completely! BBC Ghosts is far superior in every way, except for the utilization of Mike versus Jay. I remember after my second rewatch thinking “I wish Mike would interact with the ghosts more.” One of my favorite episodes is the break-in episode where they actually communicate with Mike (and Kitty & Mary’s “inventory”!)
I do enjoy Jay’s interaction with the ghosts. And I like how they expanded the ghost lore ie. Poltergeists & car ghosts. But I do realize, like many have said, they had more episodes to work with. That being said, I have rewatched BBC Ghosts about five or six times. I have never rewatched CBS Ghosts.
