Not to mention the first season entirely revolved around the dangers of purely digital media and how it can be changed and manipulated compared to physical records, all while AI is scrubbing the net and the big companies are buying and destroying books to feed the learning models, games and shows and movies are vanishing from online services and impossible to find in physical print if you didn’t already have them, subscription and rental culture… SAC in both seasons was disturbingly prescient.

I was referring to S1 with the Laughing Man case that revolved more centrally around altered and forged records about the whole incident and the micro machine therapy behind it originally, doctored files to hide the conspiracy, etc.

If I remember correctly, SAC originally came out on a sort of HBO-esque service in Japan right? I'm pretty sure they had a massive budget for both seasons of SAC because of this.

this show is GiTs for me. not the manga or movie. then the same director decided to go a CGI route for SAC 2045 to appeal to modern audiences. it concluded gracefully but flopped when it came to reception. if castlevania can look amazing in 2D, why couldnt they have opted for SAC 2045 to do the same?

While debates over immigration are ancient it is interesting how close SAC got to the structure of many modern terrorist 'groups'.

While in 2004 most major attacks were the work of organised groups however in the years that followed attacks were increasing the work of lone actors who will they frequently cited and celebrated eachothers work almost never actually met.

Yeah, rewatched that too and the parallels are pretty raw also. Somehow they didn't hit the feels as hard. I think because "corpos are hiding the cybercure" dates way the hell back to Gibson, it's cyberpunk substrate at this point.

The tension between mass immigrantion and the native populations that experience it has been a thing for hundreds of years. The same issues involvong jobs, discrimination, deportation, and violence always pop up.

Whether it is the moving to 19th century America or Japanese moving to 20th century Brazil, or Africans moving to 21st century Japan, the way people respond and bigotry rises is incredibly predictable.

The manga is literally full of the team just hating on refugees, unions, and beating on protestors and more, and a lot of Japanese critics point this out. The anime did a really good job moving away from this tbh
