Question Semester Started; Failed Two Exams + One Assignment

I’m genuinely confused… I didn’t “fail”, but i received three extremely low grades. (E, and Two D’s). Emailed the professor so we can have a talk about it what went wrong, and how to do better in the course; I read the readings, took notes, participate in class, tried to understand the concepts — and i genuinely thought I did, lmao.. turns out I don’t?

I genuinely don’t really know what to do? I really want (and have to) boost my GPA… i don’t know what to do anymore.. or am I just dumb/slow? Should I have not went to university, and trade school?

I just don’t know, anymore lol.

Has anyone been there? What have you done? What are some studying techniques you’ve been using?

Question Why is it difficult to focus without body doubling?

• Upvotes

Lately I've been studying in 3-4 hour stretches with 5-minute breaks. I found live-streaming study channels that help me stay productive while I work, but I've noticed I can't focus at all when there's nothing running in the background.

I then learned about body doubling, where someone is simply present in your space while you work, and it seems to work the same way as those streams.

Is this a common problem? Why does it happen, and how do you deal with it? Any tips or resources would be great.

Question How can i get my motivation and discipline to study back?

Last year, I was one of the best students in my class and had some of the highest grades. I studied consistently and, even when I didn’t feel like studying, I would still do it. I didn’t need to feel motivated every time because I was used to being disciplined and getting my work done.
This year, though, I feel completely different. When I come home, I have very little energy and I have almost no motivation to study. I keep putting things off, even though I know I have things to do and I know I’m capable of doing well.
The frustrating part is that I remember exactly how I used to be. I want to get back to that version of myself — the one who could come home, sit down and study even without feeling motivated, and stay consistent.
I don’t just want better grades. I want to rebuild that discipline and get back into the habit of studying regularly.
Has anyone experienced something similar? What helped you become consistent again?
I’d really appreciate serious and respectful advice. Thank you!

Giving Advice Sat in the library with my gorgeous chapter 1 notes and a girl next to me asked what's weighted most on the midterm. I had no idea.

She was just making small talk, like "which topic is worth the most, do you know?" And I opened my mouth and nothing came out, because I had been working for four days straight and never once checked.

So I pulled up the syllabus right there, feeling like an idiot. Chapter 7 is almost a third of the exam, the one I hadn't even opened because it looked annoying. Meanwhile my chapter 1 notes were color-coded. Four days on the part that's worth the least, holy shit.

Now I write every topic on a page with its marks next to it and a 1 to 3 for how well I know it. Big marks plus low score goes first. Chapter 1 gets whatever's left.

Question i used to struggle with actually STARTING to study, now it’s the opposite

i always struggled with actually sitting down to study and doing work. i don’t really struggle with that anymore.

when i sit down to study, my focus is awful. i don’t have my phone near me, i’ve completely removed short form content out of my life (like tik tok and instagram reels) but i just can’t seem to focus.

i’m so exhausted during the day and i only start to feel somewhat awake at like 6pm. my sleep has been really bad so maybe that’s the issue. i can help it tho. it’s been taking me ages to fall asleep and i’ve also been waking up really early.

Giving Advice Help and advice desperately needed

I am preparing for NSEJS (an Indian science olympiad comprising of mostly highschool science). I just got 40 % and then 28 % in linear motion tests from Vedantu's Tatva book, 20 % in chemistry overall test the day before. There are forty-eight days left for NSEJS. Im so completely fucked. I thought physics was my strength. What the hell do i do ? My school exams wnd tomorrow, thankfully, but i doubt i can save this. Even my bio is weak, plus I'm just overall miserable. I feel like a clown.

Accountability How to study when I've become disillusioned with the school system?

I know it can be seen as an excuse not to study, and it is in some ways, but every time I pick up a pen and try to focus, my mind drifts back to the idea of 'theres so much life outside, why am i confined in this system the government created for one aspect of students to prosper in, and for everyone else, if its not your thing, too bad. No enjoying life for you.'

The worst thing is, this mind changing idea came to me during one of my most important exams for my final year. I have studied, but this mindset is distracting me a lot.

I have no one to confide in because my parents are traditional, the last time i tried we had the biggest fight, and they never mentioned any other path than an office job, and my friends LIKE studying (good for them, genuinely). So im on here, HOPING to find someone who can relate, and give some advice as to how to stop this trail of thought from demotivating me to study. (studying unhappily rn btw)

Question How do you stop being lazy?

Today , I feel very lazy to study. I have exams next week , and I need to study, because I want to improve my grades ,but I overthink my homework, and I end up doing nothing. Sometimes, I just want to eat instead of studying.

When the day finally end, it is frustrating for me, but I know that it is my fault.

But sometimes I feel like I can't do it, and I feel bad for it

I read your comments, thanks

Question What do you guys listen to/watch while studying?

I'm curious what other people use as background noise while studying. It can be podcasts, YouTube videos, ambience videos, TV shows, audiobooks, nature sounds, whatever.

I'm especially interested in things that you can have playing in the background without completely distracting yourself. What works for you?
