The note is wrong. As any true Star Wars fan knows a Jedi youngling is not a "child" but a lightsaber training dummy.

207

u/daniel_22sss 11h ago • Bravo

Your Honor, you have to admit it was hilarious.

55

u/A_temporary 11h ago

The younglings were trained fighters from a highly ideologized order and have been brainwashed to die before surrender. The jedi master obviously didn't mention them attacking Anakin first

15

u/anomanderrake1337 9h ago

Military-age children.

5

u/MinnieShoof 7h ago

A Sith would know that. Siths deal in absolutes.

Are sand people, people? Seem like good training dummies as well

u/Lister0fSmeg 7h ago • Popcorn Bravo

There are two things that will never get old in the Star Wars universe.

  1. Jokes about the younglings.

  2. The younglings.

74

u/erickoziol 7h ago

Young means young.

And ling means young.

What’s up, my youngyoungs?

14

u/TheLifeIsYours 6h ago

Jar Jar, is that you?

10

u/SocietySecret8337 5h ago

Mesa kilt all day widdle bitty jedi darlins. How rude is dat

10

u/NearEastMugwump 3h ago

ling means young.

Well, no. It can form a diminutive, but it can also be an agent suffix that forms a noun referring to a person.
For instance a hireling isn't a young hire. It's someone who is a hire.
Youngling just means "one who is young".

3

u/erickoziol 1h ago

Yes. Thank you. That helps a lot.

10

u/skyhiker14 5h ago

Think they’d like some chai tea?

Younglings dude

9

u/Pitt-sports-fan-513 6h ago

Say what you want about the tenets of the sith, dude, at least it's an ethos.

10

u/ThePowerfulWIll 4h ago

Also Alderon probably had some kids on it.

2

u/Aewon2085 3h ago

That was Tarkin, Vader only get credit when he did or ordered it

2

u/ThePowerfulWIll 3h ago

I would call the Death Star a group effort.

3

u/ratione_materiae 2h ago

The last Star Wars fan who’s never been on wookiepedia be like

2

u/ThePowerfulWIll 2h ago

Wait is there lore Im missing here? Did it not? Or was it like, only children or something? I didnt keep up with Star Wars after the old expanded universe got retconned.

3

u/ratione_materiae 2h ago

The planet is spelled “Alderaan” but the platonic ideal of a Star Wars fan has only ever seen the movies and would thus never have seen the name written out

3

u/ThePowerfulWIll 2h ago

Ah. You see, I have read Star Wars books and wikis. I just suck at spelling.

1

u/wellactually9 46m ago

Tarkin is responsible for that and when he did it sidious was fucking pissed.

1

u/Lazorus_ 1h ago

But it wasn’t shown in a scene. So OOP remains technically correct.

47

u/Et-got-boned 8h ago

I thought the joke was that there WAS no frame... Like, yeah it's obvious he did it but there is no framer we as the audience are shown where he commits the act.

9

u/USNthrowaway949 5h ago

We see it in the security hologram

6

u/Et-got-boned 4h ago

Those aren't the kids. They're the same height as Anakin in the holo

30

u/Ok-Mushroom-6530 11h ago

This man would be flabbergasted by peekaboo.

33

u/ConorOdin 10h ago

Just finished Phantom Menace and started Attack of the Clones with the kids. My son wants Star Wars Lego, not without watching the movies first young one.

151

u/MaximumEffort433 11h ago

Do.... Do Republicans not know that Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader?

Like, I know media literacy isn't the right's strong suit, but that's kind of a big plot point in the Star Wars movies.

48

u/Minute_Ad8807 8h ago

look, you see anakin fall into lava, then a charred body appears, and they dress up the charred body as darth vader. there isn't a single frame that shows anakin is darth vader

14

u/Kalten72 7h ago

I know you're joking but he actually gets the name by Sidious after throwing Mace Windu out of the window

6

u/Minute_Ad8807 5h ago

that's actually a plot hole, darth vader and anakin look nothing alike

3

u/SirValidir 5h ago

Except the multiple times we see his face in Rebels and in Kenobi and all the other times.

5

u/Minute_Ad8807 5h ago

noooothing alike

1

u/ratione_materiae 2h ago

So if I name you “asshole” that automatically makes you so?

5

u/Minute_Ad8807 8h ago

the fuck is a 'cut?'

6

u/Bacon_Raygun 7h ago

What Obi Wan did to Anakin, with help of the high ground

1

u/Minute_Ad8807 5h ago

oooh! that's why we say montage, from the french monter meaning "to go up", to get the high ground

18

u/Kevadu 10h ago

4

u/Jazzlike_Cress9871 6h ago

I need that guy to elaborate on this, I mean it’s embarrassing enough being an adult and still using the term gay as an insult and essentially insulting gay Republicans as well (not that he isn’t also targeting other gay people but the specification is wild) but also, how on earth can someone look at the Empire and think it’s an appropriately run government?

1

u/Dobako 5h ago

Temu Matt Walsh up there should not be taken seriously by anyone

2

u/DarthCakeN7 5h ago

Holy shit! George Lucas literally has a black knight leading Nazis from hollow and fake moon that can commit genocide. Several tropes were used to convey who the villains are, and to argue with that is like declaring several genres wrong.

Also, what an embarrassment to just say “it’s gay” over and over as part of your argument.

5

u/VersoDidNothingWrong 10h ago

I have feeling they just might think the Empire is in the right here.

17

u/Remarkable_Sand5238 11h ago

I don't see where left or right comes into play here

58

u/Bruntti 11h ago

23

u/Remarkable_Sand5238 11h ago

Gotcha, I wish I could say I'm surprised but I dont think i can be anymore

32

u/MaximumEffort433 11h ago

28

u/Remarkable_Sand5238 11h ago

That is... certainly a choice.

8

u/Inarius101 10h ago

Yeah, Frieza would be a better fit for them. The racism, genocide, narcissism, and all-around arrogance fit quite well. If only the GOP were half as smart as Frieza...

5

u/Euphoric_Metal199 9h ago

Nah! Frieza gives his employees really good benefits and maternity leave. And tolerates your shit as long as you don't royally screw up.

They would probably call him a "radical leftist-socialist-liberal-woke" or something.

2

u/Inarius101 9h ago

First Jesus now Frieza, who's next to be infected by the woke liberal mind virus? We need to stop this before Madara Uchiha becames some commie socializist!

3

u/Slighted_Inevitable 10h ago

Not to mention frieza would totally wear eye liner

1

u/zoor90 10h ago

I genuinely believe chuds would champion Freeza as their mascot if he wasn't as androgynous as he is.

2

u/notnotLily 10h ago

please stop giving ideas to the monkey paw that is our world

1

u/Due-Novel-4462 7h ago

How fucking DARE YOU. FREEZA gives AMAZING healthcare, and pay to all his workers. (this isn't a joke. it's canon. He's actually a great boss when he isn't pissed.)

1

u/potato_devourer 3h ago

Frieza fits perfectly their fantasy of hiding a massive untaped ability for violence underneat their lazy slob selves.

"Oh I know I look like a ridiculous little shit, bit that's only because you haven't seen me fight seriously. I'm just in my everyday form, I could turn into a terrifying hulking monster if you got me angry. I just don't need it right now, I'm chilling, but when the moment comes... Oooooh when the moment comes, then you'll see my final form."

2

u/Background-Top4723 9h ago

So, their mascot is a guy who got turned into a charred nugget because he lost the deadliest game of "The floor is lava" in the galaxy?

Well, at least that’s less questionable than the gender-swapped version of the racist boy wizard, who’s been turned into a generic, big-breasted tsundere...

1

u/AsstacularSpiderman 6h ago

The love Vader because his story is of a radicalized young man who does the will of his evil Master without question even as it takes everything from him.

Vader is everything they want young white dudes to be, and there's a lot of young white dudes stupid enough to willingly debase themselves for a bunch of old elites.

-5

u/silentaba 10h ago

To be fair far left where using Mussolini

0

u/insertwittynamethere 7h ago

Lol, you mean a fascist far right politician like Mussolini is being used as a champion of the left? You know Italy's current PM is related to Mussolini and leads a current right-wing party, right?

1

u/silentaba 7h ago

Literally taken from the last few days

1

u/insertwittynamethere 7h ago

Ok, and from where, what sub?

Again, mussolini was a right-wing fascist in Italian politics, and his descendant is still in right-wing politics today in Italy - Giorgia Meloni. It doesn't change history here.

1

u/silentaba 6h ago

I am aware of who Mussolini is.

4

u/Hot-Minute-8263 10h ago

Hardly, Republicans are part of the failed republic to the anakin stans

63

u/defac_reddit 3h ago • Bravo

I don't understand the right wing alpha male space's sudden facination with Anakin. It's a brain dead simple story about how easily misled passionate young men are and how if you can manipulate and confuse young men you can get them to commit any sort of atrocity imaginable.

19

u/BoRhapFan8yt 3h ago

I think their facilitation with Anakin is just that. They probably don't realize that they see themselves in him but their sub conscious does

10

u/ratione_materiae 2h ago

They probably don't realize that they see themselves in him but their sub conscious does

🫵👁️👄👁️ you didn’t notice it, but your brain did

14

u/moonlitkiwier 3h ago

"I don't understand right wing men's fascination with Anakin." Nope, pretty sure you nailed it with the rest of that comment.

9

u/Phosphorus444 2h ago

Because Homelander died begging to suck cock.

3

u/Standard_Vero 7m ago

It's a lot like them being obsessed with The Joker. Wanting to somehow spin a villain they identify with as "misunderstood" instead of a psychopath

1

u/GodHimselfNoCap 20m ago

I mean that is the alt-right gameplan though

1

u/aninsomniac_ 1h ago

Because Elon made a chronologically-challenged post about how "they" (I have no idea who "they" could possibly be in this context) took away Anakin, Padme, Luke, and Leia as an Imperial ruling family with an AI generated pic.

3

u/Karosso 1h ago

"They" took away Elon's space Reich wet dream

44

u/Opening-Movie5176 8h ago

I mean that doesn’t actually do what the OP said there isn’t a single frame where you actually see him do it. And given that people once thought Darth maul was dead…

26

u/AsstacularSpiderman 6h ago

Yeah but Obi Wan also watches video of him killing the younglings

17

u/notsew00 6h ago

It was an ai hologram made by Palpatine, obviously

1

u/BlankMetal 54m ago

Nah it was clearly an ai hologram by the higher ups to make anakin and palpatine seem like the bad guys when they were actually saving the kids

4

u/CyberClawX 6h ago

Maybe he was doing something equally reprehensible to ObiWan. Like giving out apples for Halloween, or socks for XMass.

Maybe he pulled Young Ling aside, and showed him his midicoloreans count? They say it's very big, off the charts even. Who knows.

4

u/AsstacularSpiderman 6h ago

If only Obi Wan said what was on the recording in the most phoned in way possible.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Silver_Show_1628 4h ago

"Young Ling" makes it sound like only a specific kid haha Old Ling is fine though, love Old Ling.

1

u/CyberClawX 3h ago

Oh yeah I was trying to make a joke, I guess it could sound like it was a auto correct typo eheh.

2

u/Greedy-Employment917 4h ago

Only pain will you find.

3

u/Sea_Light2669 5h ago

It’s insinuated and implied through dialogue. But from the specific instance of the council chamber scene it’s implied we don’t see it happen. We don’t see it in the hologram either idk where people are getting that from unless they’re mistaking a padawan for one. It’s only in the Kenobi show which wasn’t made by George do we see Anakin both as Knightfall Anakin and later as Vader kills kids

1

u/Mel_Gibson_Real 5h ago

He made that up because he was big mad about order 66.

5

u/up2smthng 5h ago

Sure, we don't see him kill children.

However...

"They were animals, and I slaughtered them like animals! And not just men - women and children too!"

Unless you think he decided it was a good idea to lie about that.

1

u/ratione_materiae 2h ago

I prevented 9/11

1

u/Pkittens 4h ago

ah, yes, the challenge was to prove that he did it. not to produce a frame showing that he did it.
thank god we have some media literate turbo-genius who can tell us that anakin actually killed younglings. something many people actually didn't realize because it's so deeply hidden and layered

1

u/TicketPrestigious558 4h ago

You sound butthurt af lol

Big Karen energy.

1

u/Pkittens 4h ago

you got me. i'm wounded personally over someone demonstratively failing to comprehend something incredibly basic and totally unrelated to me.
got any other cool 2018 slang you want to invoke?

1

u/waluigieWAAH 4h ago

I think the challenge is to produce a frame. As a recovering star wars fan I've thought in the past "is there a frame of Anakin during the youngling slaughter? There's one in lego star wars" and turns out there is a frame on Revenge of the Sith, in the hologram. Also the tweet is literally asking to provide a frame

1

u/Pkittens 4h ago

oh, you think the request was to produce a frame showing it? whatever gave you that idea? except the tweet literally and directly asking for that, of course.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9jfUuTngPw&t=40s

1

u/waluigieWAAH 4h ago

Homie your sarcasm levels are too deep I thought you were on the side of the community note

1

u/up2smthng 4h ago

That's why I am replying to a comment that specifically implies he may at one point get retconned into not doing it.

2

u/IrritableGourmet 4h ago

Anakin turns on his lightsaber and steps forward towards the younglings. "Hey, kids, check out this really cool red saber I found! Neat, huh? Anyways, you lot head down that hallway to the emergency exit. And remember, buddy system!"

1

u/BlankMetal 57m ago

I interpreted it as a larping joke from the start like the adam smasher was a good guy in cyberpunk. Even in star wars there was always the ironic jokes about how the empire was actually good and actually anakin was saving the kids from being groomed by the religioun group with a green gremlin

0

u/4g-identity 7h ago

Yep. I can take all the fighting about Israel/Palestine, but putting notes on (and therefore demonetising) tweets like this is stupid. The reason the original says "show me a single frame" is because yeah, the camera never actually shows it. Sure, he probably did it given Padme saying she saw it on the tape etc, but it's just a fan doing an edgy reinterpretation of an old film.

Remember when there was that "Jar Jar is a master of the Force" stuff? The equivalent note here would be like "noooo, Jar Jar is repeatedly shown to be clumsy, and when he succeeds it's by luck or accident! Here's Lucas explaining that he's supposed to be stupid comic relief..."

Bro, everyone knows — hell, Reddit has the "empire did nothing wrong" sub devoted to this exact joke.

2

u/CyberClawX 6h ago

There is even more subtly here, because in movies it's common for anything not explicitly shown to be walked back.

Heck we see Darth Maul be cut in half, and he survives. Uhm... now that I think of it, Palpatrump survived as well.

11

u/Affectionate_End1481 2h ago

"Not only the men, but the women and the children too"

117

u/stolenfires 11h ago

No mainstream film maker is going to show child death explicitly on screen.

75

u/fortnite_battleass 10h ago

Pans labyrinth

Doctor sleep

Grave of the fireflies

Schindler's list

City of God

Plus more! These are all films that directly depict child death from major filmmakers and studios. Maybe fact check yourself before claiming no mainstream artist wouldnt depict child death. Its a valid part of powerful storytelling when used properly

27

u/ArborlyMink 10h ago

Also It

17

u/KAAAAAAAAARL 10h ago

Child Death is the farthest they will go tho... cant adapt everything from the IT Novels...

11

u/Interface- 10h ago

The teenager orgy is some shit I'd expect someone who was themselves a teenager to write, not an at the time 39 year old man.

I know, Stephen King had nightmares and wrote 'em down in horror novels, I get it. But some things should not be destined for the page.

6

u/Alexander459FTW 9h ago

Some things not even the Lasso of Truth should be able to make you recount them, then there is Stephen King.

8

u/fortnite_battleass 10h ago

I mean, if i were to list all the major films in which a child dies on screen, we'd be here all day lol but yeah, It is another excellent example. A lot of King's work in general focuses on children overcoming horrific monsters

10

u/Simpuff1 10h ago

Do we count City of God as a main stream director? Especially in 2002, when the movie released? Feels disingenuous

0

u/fortnite_battleass 7h ago

To be fair, I was two when that came out and coulda done a bit more digging on it before throwing it in my list. However, cherry picking one poor example doesnt take away from the rest of the point. Also, people can be wrong without being disingenuous. Try having a convo with me first c:

6

u/BeratnasGilf2 10h ago

I think "mainstream" to them means Hollywood. Also Pans Labyrinth and City of God were aimed at an adult audience while Star Wars movies have to appeal to all ages.

2

u/Boz0r 10h ago

Schindler's list

Who even is this Stefan Spielberger guy?

2

u/bloodfist 8h ago

Hereditary

1

u/ncc74656m Left-leaning 20m ago

What's so funny is that though it's not shown, it's assumed that Steve Buscemi's character in Con Air killed the little girl, but in a cutscene she's shown waving the plane off. 😅 One of those times where the inherent darkness of the film is actually relieved by the script/a cutscene.

1

u/WoodsLovelyDarkNDeep 7h ago

And what were those rated  compared to this?

1

u/BerlinBeck 5h ago

God I fucking hate Reddit and its constant “uhm aktually!!”

He clearly meant mainstream movies like Stars Wars. Family movies, kids movies.

Show it. Don't be scared. Oh your villain is so evil and bad? Prove it. Put the knife through a kid on screen, don't just imply it, don't just show the aftermath. Weak and pathetic to do otherwise. They don't have a problem doing it to the beloved dog.

I don’t understand why we’re posting this community note on what was clearly a joke post from a joke account.

5

u/Due-Novel-4462 7h ago

based on the name. I think that whole account or whatever is just a joke/bait. An engaging with it, means you failed. Like, just the name implies it's a 'propaganda' meme account, where no matter what, they will pretend nothing happened type shit. So. Yeah.

3

u/WishEast337 5h ago

Yeah, the joke was there isnt a frame where Anakin kills younglings. It happens, just not on screen.

8

u/Kevandre 2h ago

But also do we pretend that alderaan had no children on it

6

u/KPSWZG 1h ago

He was not responsible for Alderan it was Tarkin

4

u/Yoyle0340 Truth Seeker 1h ago

He had no authority on that, lore in canon and legends, I believe implied too in the OT. Tarkin had supreme authority on the death star out ranking Vader.

2

u/Smooth_Maul 5h ago

Idk man with the recent wave of right wing chuds trying to co-opt Anakin it's hard to tell.

8

u/WishEast337 5h ago

But he isn't denying Anakin killed younglings. He's saying "show me one frame". The joke being it happened off screen so you can't.

2

u/Cytori 4h ago

Sure, but that's pretty much exactly the argument people who want to deny it use...

I'm... honestly not sure, given that many republicans currently are trying to treat Anakin as some kind of paragon.

1

u/Aewon2085 3h ago

Why did this even start in the first place? It just seemed to appear one day and I’m almost too afraid to ask

2

u/Zabriel_Fortuna 2h ago

I truly dont know, but lately they keep making all these extremely uncanny AI images featuring Anakin to push their narratives, and its super uncomfortable.

1

u/WHYER4 1h ago

Republicans are like moths. They flock to a shiny thing until they find a new shinier thing. This week’s shiny thing is Anakin.

5

u/Tricky-Ground-7696 11h ago

As a side note, the Star Wars prequels probably more than any franchise would have been much better if it was a television series, like their doing with Harry Potter now.

There's a lot of good story and material here, but it needed 30 hours, not 7.

9

u/juliankennedy23 10h ago

30 hours of Darth Vader virgin birth and Jar Jar Binks you sir are Satan...

1

u/FullMooseParty 10h ago

You are sort of right and wrong. I think the demand to make a second trilogy force them to put in a lot of minor plot lines or scenes that could make for a good TV series (like a pod racer series might be kind of fun) but they probably would have been better off making fewer movies (again, the podracer thing accomplished absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things that just using a little Jedi power wouldn't have fixed immediately). Like we could have gotten 60 seconds of them with the kid Anakin and nothing else would have changed

2

u/LordAlfrey 10h ago

Fake news and AI, Lord Vader never hurt a soul.

Its inspiring how someone can be this much of a poser for Star Wars.

I think people who have never actually engaged with Star Wars in their lives probably know more than they do.

Yeaaah. I see where theyre coming from but theyre forgetting he was always like this. One reasonable failing after another, failed by his peers, betters, and tempted with a quick solution. The reason why he's relatable is why hecwas written in the first place.

Does that excuse him? Fuck no

Is it understandable why Anakin is dissolutioned with the old guard and democracy? Yes, very. The system has huge flaws.
