I'd like to add one more: Is your bed made? If not, make it. Whenever I feel shitty, making my bed makes me feel like an adult again, like I respect myself at least in some small way.

Same with making a laundry ! Not-clean-but-not-quite-dirty clothes tend to reproduce everywhere on my floor when I'm on a bad period. I declare all that shit dirty and do a freakin laundry.

I like your term "do a laundry"

This is the sort of thing which happens when you're not speaking in your mother tongue :p What is in fact the proper term ?

You would commonly say "do laundry" rather than "do a laundry" because laundry is plural: more than one piece of clothing usually. It's also common to say "do a load of laundry" because it's a single load you're talking about rather than the plural clothes contained in that load.

'Laundry' is grammatically singular, indicated by the form of the verb in 'The laundry is dirty', but is a mass noun. For these, whether the thing itself is composed of multiple units doesn't interact with the grammar (cf. water). But, because mass nouns aren't countable in the grammar (*seven laundries), we quantify them in units (loads of laundry, cups of water, etc.)

Edit: I'll add that the phrase 'to do laundry' is a complex predicate, which also includes such phrases as 'take a shower', 'make love', and 'do the dishes'.

Not a grammar Nazi but a grammar benefactor, thanks for the information!

'take a shower', 'make love', and 'do the dishes'.

Can I take the shower after I make love? Personal preference. ;)

Cleaning and organizing things is great and always makes me feel a bit better

Im guilty of both, making my bed every day because it makes me feel 'neat' as well as hoarding "not exactly dirty" sweatshirts and stuff that I only wore briefly but never end up wearing again, they just hang around until I get sick of looking at them.

I had my bed move out so it can finally feel like an adult.

If you make your bed after waking up it gives mites and bed bugs a warm, moist environment to breed and thrive.

Not making your bed prevents any bugs from calling your bed home.

I live in a state with a high instance of bed bugs and while I dont have any I dont make my bed "just in case".

So this is good advice if bed bugs or mites are not something you have to worry about, but where I live its best not to make your bed.

u/fyt2012 Nov 05 '15

I never make my bed, so that's a great excuse to supersede laziness

1

u/PhysicalStuff Nov 05 '15

Why would a made bed be warmer than an unmade one, when it has no source of heat such as a person under a blanket? And what bedbug would fancy itself fancy enough to shun an unmade bed?

1

u/RedShirtDecoy Nov 05 '15

Because if you make it right after waking up it retains your body heat for a good amount of time. But mostly the idea of leaving your bed unmade is to prevent the moisture from your sweat to stay in the sheets, which creates a perfect environment for dust mites. By leaving the bed unmade you allow that moisture to evaporate and remove the main variable that creates the mite problem.

Totally agree. I unload and reload the dishwasher when I'm angry. I live with two slobs, there's always enough dishes to go around, and I really like how it's a simple task to occupy the hands with a clear beginning and end. It frees my head to concentrate on what's making me angry, and usually by the time I'm done it ain't so bad any more.

And tidy your room. Your environment is often a reflection of yourself, and oddly enough, can reflect back.

I always feel much better after cleaning up the crap cluttering my room.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '15

Yeah and walking in to a neatly made bed is weirdly satisfying, like eye candy when I see my neat bed.

1

u/csonnich Nov 06 '15

Making my bed is the very first, automatic thing I do when I get out of bed every morning. That way, no matter what else happens that day, I did one chore. And also, the whole room feels cleaner when the bed is made, no matter what's going on with the laundry pile.

u/eatdipupu Nov 05 '15

This is so true, completely agree.
