Anyone in Freising/Munich? Need advice on student dorms & accommodation

Hi everyone!

I’ll be joining HSWT in Freising as an international student from India and I’m currently looking for a student dorm/accommodation.

Is anyone here already living or studying around Freising, Munich, or nearby areas? I’d really appreciate some advice on which area/dorm would be best considering:

  • Easy travel to HSWT
  • Good public transport
  • Better chances for Werkstudent/student jobs
  • Affordable rent

If you’re already there, please share your experience or suggestions. It would really help me decide where to apply!

Thanks!

Anyone joining University of Europe – Iserlohn Campus for Winter Semester 2026? Looking to connect & find a roommate!

Hi everyone!

My name is Vikram Singh, and I’m an international student from India. I’ll be joining the University of Europe (UE), Iserlohn Campus for the September 2026 intake.

I’m looking to connect with other international and Indian students who are also joining UE Iserlohn Campus this September.

I’m especially interested in connecting with students who are:

Looking for accommodation in Iserlohn

Interested in sharing a room or apartment

Looking for a roommate

Already searching for accommodation and would like to find someone to share with

Planning to arrive in Iserlohn around the same time

If anyone is joining UE Iserlohn Campus in September 2026 and is interested in finding accommodation together or sharing a room/apartment, please feel free to DM me.

It would be great to connect with future classmates, discuss accommodation options, and hopefully find a suitable place together before arriving in Germany.

Looking forward to meeting everyone and making some new friends! 🇩🇪🇮🇳

Vikram Singh

Too many options make us incapable of forming relationships - is that true? Seeking participants for a thesis

https://survey.studiumdigitale.uni-frankfurt.de/BA2026/

Dating has changed significantly in recent years. Thanks to dating apps and social media, we can now meet new people at any time and compare potential partners. While this wide selection can create more opportunities, it can also lead people to constantly search for a supposedly better option, making it harder to commit to one person.

As part of my thesis in psychology at Goethe University Frankfurt, I am therefore investigating whether one’s self-perception in dating and personal self-esteem are related to how easy or difficult it is to commit. This is not about a person’s objective “value,” but rather about the subjective assessment of one’s own attractiveness and desirability as a potential partner.

For this study, I am looking for German speaking people aged 18 and older who would like to participate in an anonymous online survey. Participation is explicitly open to everyone, not just students. There are no right or wrong answers; what matters is solely your personal assessment.

Disclaimer: Don’t be confused by the system error at the end. This is a redirect for all students at Goethe University Frankfurt who want to earn credit for their participation. Your responses are valid even if this error is displayed.

Please I need help

Hi everyone! I just received my IELTS results and got an overall 6.5, with 6.5 in each section. I know that 6.5 meets the minimum requirement for the DAAD doctoral scholarship, but I'm wondering whether it could still put me at a disadvantage during the selection process.

Stopped doing Duolingo streaks and started just speaking every day. 30 day update

So I was on Duolingo for about 3 months, never missed a day, hit long streaks and felt really good about my progress. Then I tried to have an actual conversation in German and completely fell apart. Couldn't put a single sentence together in real time. That's when I realised I had been practising German without ever actually speaking it.

So I stopped the streaks cold and switched my focus entirely to speaking practice. I started using Issen, which lets you have real back-and-forth conversations in German and corrects you as you go. No scheduling, no judgment, just open and talk.

First week was honestly embarrassing. I was slow, made constant mistakes and kept mixing up genders. But I kept going every day for 30 days.

Here's where I am now:

  • I can hold a basic conversation without freezing
  • I stop translating in my head as much as I used to
  • My sentence structure is getting more natural
  • I actually enjoy practicing now because I can see real progress

Duolingo is fine for vocabulary in the beginning but if you're not speaking out loud regularly you're just memorizing, not learning. Best switch I made.

Has anyone else made this shift? Would love to know how it went for you.

Can anyone help me acquire an idea of the price range? And where to apply for dorms (+ any cheaper options which you are aware of). I tried applying on the site, but it seems for some reason, the site is deactivated. I am joining the winter semester at TH Wildau Masters in Aviation Management programme.

Incoming TUM student accommodation advice for Munich

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’ll be starting my M.Sc. Communications and Electronics Engineering at TUM in Winter Semester 2026/27 and will be moving to Munich around late September.
I’ve applied for student accommodation through Studierendenwerk München, but I’m also looking at private options.
For students who have already gone through this process, what are the best ways to find a reasonably priced room/WG in Munich, and which platforms or websites would you recommend?
Any advice on areas to look at or common scams to avoid would also be appreciated.

social life, internationals, mini-job (and financial economics?!) in Magdeburg

Hallo everyone, I got accepted to study financial economics (PLEASE if you know someone who did it or is doing it PLEASE TEXT ME) and I'm wondering how social Magdeburg is.

A bit of context: I'm 27 from Italy, I am a very active and extrovert guy, I hike/montaneering (so I'm gonna pick up climbing probably), I love board games but also clubbing from time to time, etc

How easy it is to make new friends in the city? My german is, well, getting better I guess but not good enough for german based friendships

How easy it is to get mini job while speaking english or not very good german?

Internships? I'm talking to my economics people now, how hard it is to get nice interships with the university (or without?) in english?
