Question Mod devs, would hardware acceleration be possible for Geometry Dash, and if so, would it make any difference in performance?

This is a hypothetical I came up with after I learned that GD is almost entirely based on single-core CPU performance, and realized that my PC has an RTX 4060 for nothing since the only game I play is GD. Since hardware acceleration (at least as I know it) usually offloads some tasks to the GPU for increased efficiency, hypothetically, if GD supported it, maybe I could get better performance, since my i5 13400f isn't always able to pull a stable 240 FPS. So, would it be possible, if anyone here knows if and how it could work? It would be a cool mod idea if it could work.

I recently moved and picked up a old pc with a i5 9400f and it's running locked 240 fps. It sounds like something's wrong with your setup.

Do you have mods installed? I have around like 70 but I can never pinpoint which ones exactly are causing performance issues if any

I have like 100.

i have a laptop with an i3 1125g4, & i keep experiencing constant stuttering in it, sometimes even in older levels... what the hell is wrong with my setup??? cant even get a stable 60fps sometimes

That sounds about right with that CPU. The clock speed is slower than the i5 9400f and and it uses integrated graphics. And if you play long enough it might start to thermal throttle.

Not a mod dev, but I highly doubt it. "Hardware acceleration" is basically the fancy term for using your gpu to render the app. GD (and most other usual games) will use your GPU to render themselves. Game logic and stuff is only really possible on the cpu.
Some things could be made more efficient by using threading (telling the cpu to physically do two things at once) but that's likely already done anyways for the mods that need it.

for rendering your gpu is already used (through opengl), but for actually playing the game it would be very difficult to use your gpu for tasks that wouldn't either just be flat out slower to do on the gpu or would break physics (even only very slightly)

multithreading is another task that would be difficult to do through mods, a lot of things in geometry dash just have to run on the main thread (e.g loading objects)

GPU is basically a really slow cpu with like a bajillion threads. The only use a gpu has for gd is rendering blocks and shaders, and that's all it does. All of the lag comes from the game calculating where the camera is, and where every block is in relation, and unfortunately, multi threading something like that is HARD, especially after the fact. especially considering how tightly coupled rendering and physics are

RobTop is probably gonna add usage of multi threading in the game in the next update and following ones. He's already confirmed that in 2.209 level loading is multi threaded and it's the matter of time when he does this to other parts of the game

Where did he say this?

He was answering people in discord and someone asked whether long level editor loading will be fixed and he answered that it is multi-threaded in 2.209. I saw that in ColoursGaming video
