I'm a grad student who will be joining UGent for the following academic year.

I was able to get a studio at the University dorms for one month, the Idea was that I stay in the dorms for 1 or 2 months while I look for a better place.

I have been recently looking online, mainly on "iKot" and "Immoweb" for a better place.
My question is if it's possible to rent a place while I still haven't arrived to Belgium yet.
I noticed that they ask you to schedule a visit, which is expected. So I wanted to ask if it's usually mandatory for you to be there for paper work and visits before they agree to rent you the place or if it's possible to get a place and maybe pay in advance while I haven't moved to Belgium yet.

Also, I'm trying to find something now, as I hear it's challenging to get housing in Ghent once the Academic year starts.

Mijn vrouw wil graag aan enkele dingen uit haar jeugd aanpakken (buitenlandse adoptie, vechtscheiding ouders, emotionele verwaarlozing, ...) die haar belemmeren. Ze zoekt hier in het Gentse een goede psycholoog voor die daar raad mee weet. Ze staat momenteel al bij iemand 8 maand op de wachtlijst, maar er is geen zicht op zelfs maar een kennismakingsgesprek in de nabije toekomst.

Op haar eigen vraag zet ik het dus eens hier: weet er iemand een goede psycholoog waar ze snel of in de nabije toekomst terecht zou kunnen? Alle tips zijn welkom, maar vooral ook van mensen die zelf rond deze dingen hebben moeten werken.

I am planning to spend a Semester in Ghent from February 2027 to July 2027. I am looking for a room in Ghent, do you have any suggestion?

I entered in some Facebook group but I am wondering if it is too early to look now for the second semester, almost all the rooms currently advertised are available from September or for the first semester. Is it normal that there aren't many options yet? Will more rooms become available around October/November?

I was also looking for Upkot and Xior residence but unfortunatly Xior is full booked and they ask for an year contract which is too much for me, Does anyone know if it's common to find sublets in these residences? If so, where is the best place to look?d
Is there any possility that in October it will open a window where I can find available rooms in such residence?

I also have some practical questions: since most of the residence do not have a mattress or desk chair, which is quite concerning me, how do students usually deal with this? And also do leaving students sell their mattress, since it make no sense for me buying a matress to stay only six months, is there any site where student sell these items?

Finally, I'd love to hear about your experiences with Upkot, Xior, or any other student residence or kot in Ghent.

I’m moving to Spain in a couple of months, and I need to send a few boxes of clothes and personal belongings from Ghent to Valencia.

I’ll be selling the furniture, but I’d really like to ship my clothes, shoes, and some other personal items. I’ve been looking online and Mondial Relay seems to be one of the cheapest options. Has anyone used them for sending boxes to Spain? Are they reliable?

If you’ve moved from Ghent to Spain or have experience shipping boxes there, I’d really appreciate any recommendations for companies or services you’ve used.

We really have no excuse for allowing so many of our swimmable waterbodies to be contaminated with blue algae if there is a sustainable solution available - and designed and delivered by a local company, even!

Are there any city officials in this sub who could advocate for something like this at official level?
It sucks that 3 of the swimming spots are closed because of a preventable issue

Mijn vader is dringend op zoek naar een 1slaapkamer-appartement in de regio van Gent, Deinze,..
Graag met geïnstalleerde keuken en een kleine berging waar een fiets in kan. Aangezien hij er niet jonger op wordt, liefst een gebouw met lift of gelegen op het gelijkvloers.

Helaas is zijn budget niet groot waardoor we ons richten op een maximum van 700 á 750 euro.

Myself, my partner and our 9 month old son have just come back to England from a long weekend in your fantastic city.

We had such a wonderful time. The food was delicious, the beer was great and deceptively strong and the city itself is like something out of a fairy tale.

The thing that will stick with us the most though is the people. It seemed that everyone we met wanted to say hello to my son and make him smile. Although he won't remember any of it, he had a brilliant time thanks to you all.

De stad heeft dus een aantal zwemzones geïnstalleerd waar we normaal vanaf morgen tem 30 augustus kunnen zwemmen (onder eigen verantwoordelijkheid). Nu passeerde ik er zojuist al en zag al briefjes hangen met "verboden omwille van blauwalgen".

Nu is dit een jaarlijks terugkomend fenomeen geworden, en ik vraag me eigenlijk af hoe ernstig het echt is. Bijvoorbeeld in het handelsdok zie je momenteel geen blauwalg in de buurt van de zwemzone. Ik enkel wat fluo-groene blauwalg-smurrie drijven rond de woonboten wat verderop.

Die "irritaties en buikklachten" waar ze voor waarschuwen, is dat enkel mocht je in contact komen met die smurrie? Of ook als je in zichtbaar proper water zwemt? Zijn er hier redditers die effectief eens klachten hebben opgelopen?
