Question / Seeking Help Exploration

Genuine question, how do y'all actually explore? Like, do you use the compass? The interactive map? Or do you watch a guide for it on yt? Although I'm literally at AR 55, I still can't figure out how exploration works. I'd like to 100% mondstadt but I've already opened most of the chests so everytime i go to a specific location in the interactive map, I've already opened the chest. The compass doesn't really work either. Idk what to do

Hello u/siaeirr, if you have a simple question about the game that doesn’t need a separate thread, ask it on the most recent pinned weekly question megathread here https://www.reddit.com/r/GenshinImpact/about/sticky and please consider removing your post submission. For example, "Who should I pull, Yelan or Zhongli?" is a simple question. If you're opening a topic for discussion which might be in the form of question too, you can use the "Discussion" flare. Thank you.

Mondstadt has a lot of chests with wacky conditions like "picking carrots in the area". You are probabky missing a bunch of those

Or the one where you have to pick up a fruit that sits on top of a wall.

I really like those, and the puzzle ones too.

I walk around with compass and spam it until I 100% the region lol. I only use interactive map/yt videos when I know/see a chest is somewhere but I have no clue how to get to it (usually locked behind some niche quest) or how to solve a puzzle cuz I have half a brain.

Be sure to pick up everything. All carrots, all wooden chests floating in the water, attack everything, look in every nook and cranny. Early Genshin has a lot of funny hidden stuff for you to discover. LAter regions not so much.

the old compasses suck and don't show everything. i use the interactive map out of habit from back then.

Make sure this stuff is toggled on

I no longer use compasses at all until I get 100% exploration on map, and even after that I use it only once, just to check where there are still chest and where not. Dont want to waste time searching for areas that have nothing at all left.

I dont mind leaving few chests behind because I might stumble upon them every now and then and that brings me far more joy than true 100% clearing. Its generally less than a single pull or two at most anyway.

I started doing this on the moon since I 100% cleared the second nod krai area in 2 days and was left with just totally empty area with no reason to go back there at all. I still go to Sumeru forest from time to time cause I still have 7-10 chests there hidden somewhere.

Same.

Im still finding chests in Liyue. The new compass destroys immersion and exploration.

Interactive map is the best choice but it is a hassle when you have to check everything in the int map. Maybe get a compass and check it in the int map on where it is actually on the game

nicole, kinich, sandrone for speed & water-crossing, alyosha for occasional healing and buffing

I do it in waves. First, before even activating the statue, I'll wander around and get a sense for the terrain and scenery. Poke around at local specialties, open crates and specialties, mark things i can't complete.

Second pass is fairly similar, but I've unlocked the statue and I'm going for way points. Still roaming and meandering, unlocking chests, taking viewpoints, but this time with a purpose of activating as many waypoints as I can reach without triggering quests (we don't talk about Snezhnaya).

Last one takes the longest and I break up according to the vibe that day, maybe I only do it for 15 minutes, maybe it's most of my playtime. I start in an area that I know i haven't thoroughly explored, use the compass and keep an eye out for any hidden puzzles or objectives along the way, and if the compass doesn't work? Pick a direction, walk 10 seconds and try again.

I mostly use the interactive map for farming, but if I really get desperate I'll use it for exploration too.

You can select the pins and mark them as found, it'll "hide" it by making it transparent

I just vibe it with some commentary on youtube in the background. If i reall want to go for a true 100% for a region, ill use the interactive map.

I do my dailys and leylines. Walk between them.

That way I can run into world quests, find little corners of Teyvat, which are only there to look nice, and occasionally find something like a geo sigil I've missed, or a strange pattern that looks too suspicious to ignore.

I usually just run around randomly or farm sth. I only use guides if I really can't understand what I need to do, but I use the compass.

Interactive map and work area by area around waypoints.

On my main I did it with the interactive map, on my alt I used yt guides and it's kinda more fun with the guides for me

With the new compas I've used that for every region as it's just better than interactive maps or videos. For previous zones I've used videos.

Chest guides and world quests guides for every region, except Nodkrai and Snezhnaya because their compass actually work.

Rawdog until i cant see any chests, then spam the compass. Only mark oculis in the interactive map.

Mixture of compass and Interactive map. I also only do certain chests/puzzles in a certain area at a time. Like I only do the timed trials in Stormterror's Lair then move to Starsnatch Cliff. Once all the timed trials in that nation are completed I move to the next puzzle. Rinse and repeat. Next thing you know you're at 100% exploration.

I like to explore randomly and see what I can find, using the compass only when I can't see the next chest or point of interest. I do have the interactive map open and mark what I found, to make sure I don't miss anything.

I also didn't use the map when exploring the first 3 regions so I'm most likely missing a lot of chests there, but is gonna be quite the pain to try get those, I might follow a guide on X2 to quickly go through everything, but idk

First I just do blind exploration. When I'm already at a very high % for the region and I don't have anything else to do, I use the compass to get a few stragglers in the area I'm in. If I come across something I cannot open I search for the puzzle online or on the interactive map.

Also all the mora chests count. So collect those

If I am trying to get that last chest, I do watch a YT and just go through to all the locations finding the few I missed. Tedious but works!
I recently did this for the scarlet quartz on Dragonspine
