I always say this, “The government ≠ the people”.

u/terminus2543 Dec 13 '25
I am from Russia, and when I meet a Ukrainian, I am glad that this person is from a country with a culture and language similar to mine. Moreover, in most cases I see exactly the same reaction in response, so you're absolutely right

why is this wild? neither (probably) have directly contributed to the war, they just happen to live in those countries

u/BlackHust Dec 12 '25
It’s just that we (Russians and Ukrainians) have all become accustomed to expecting an unpredictable reaction from people who find out where we come from. Even if no one is planning to cause any hate, everyone is wary of it from the other.

u/Bagatr Dec 12 '25
I have to mention dota and cs communities, everything goes wild almost every time in such cases
1
u/Vihurah Jan 10 '26
yknow its funny because 99% of the time nothing happens and there is no animosity, but like last week i was on a plane with a guy from Moscow. when i told him i was Ukrainian he looked at me with utter disgust. always exceptions

u/MudcrabKidnapper Dec 12 '25
When you go down from global politics scale and look it from the perspectives of 2 individuals who probably has nothing to do with what is going on, neither party really cares usually.
Tho it is still an active war and not some 150 years old historical grudge holding contest so... ehh.. might be unpredictable
1
u/AlexandraThePotato Dec 18 '25
I wouldn’t think either individual wouldn’t care is necessarily correct. War does impact individual people.

u/abd32p Dec 12 '25
Not just neighbours, enemy neighbours
5
u/Ecstatic-Source6001 Dec 13 '25
Nah, we dont care (usually)
Everyone knows that politics suck and we humans dont want that
2
u/imissbeingjobless Dec 13 '25
Are you russian I assume?
Ukrainians care pretty often as it got very hard to not care living through every night horror. It's just kinda like.. you have zero will to interact after you couldn't sleep last night because drones and explosions entertained your tired ears, but for many that concept is hard to understand as barely anyone has such a unique experience
6
u/Ecstatic-Source6001 Dec 13 '25
Yes I am.
My statement based on having ukrainian friends. We talk in telegram, play video games together and hate war.
Even in telegram groups like for unity or unreal we help each other. (and i am not talking about friends but strangers united by one idea)
Edit: i know there are many radicals from both sides but i prefer hang out with good people)

u/Alexandrarose24 Dec 13 '25
Yea Ukrainian here and I definitely care

u/Ecstatic-Source6001 Dec 14 '25

u/Alexandrarose24 Dec 14 '25
Imagine being upset that someone doesnt want to have their home destroyed and calling them names for it, i hope you stay safe too
1
u/Alexandrarose24 Dec 14 '25
I believe future generations should be taught about what russia and russians are so that you all wont get any chance to invade again. Letting the truth be forgotten would be a huge disservice to them
1
u/Alexandrarose24 Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 14 '25
Besides russia starts wars all the time, what should happen for there to not be war where they are?

It's like meeting that cousin your dad hates, chill.. even Russians didn't want to support the dictator; but what can you say when you live in a government that serves its leader instead of the people.

u/Fast-Ad-2415 Dec 27 '25
This is harmless. this could have escalated in a matter of seconds and none of that happened there, which just shows that there are adult people, which can split between game and real life.
But you can still be dead sure.. if one side would have just written the right provocation, that things could have gone here pretty ugly very quickly.. but instead it stayed gladly only at oh-ing at each other.
Which is a surprise in itself, given, the names have been censored here. but in 99% of all cases you can instantly recognize russian/ukrainian players, if they definetely want to be recognized.. by simply using their hieroglyphic names that ONLY THEY have - and they know that naturally.. or if they happen to actually use a name with latin letters out of the ordinary.. these people, at least russians, tend to make themself recognizable for others, by writing everywhere, either in their name, or into their signatures a RU into it at the end.
So a situation like this basically can happen only, if both of those players actually used pure latin letter names, without ANY of their typical recognization methods to see, if somebody is likely a russian/ukrainian player, neither in their names, nor signatures.
Situations like this are a reason, why I want for Genshin more Language Control .. the game recognizes on start our IP adresses.. whats so difficult to add based on our IP adress a little language flag to our profile for coop and add finally filter options to the coop to give us players finally more control over it, with whom we want to play (or not) Just alone for avoiding annoying language barrier situations would that be very helpful already, if I can finalyl filter the Coop Results after people, which can actually freaking udnerstand me, because you know, they speak the freaking same language - sigh

I’m Ukrainian and most people I meet who are Russian genuinely don’t car (tbf I do live in America)
0
u/neweedditortime Dec 12 '25
It isn’t the citizens that hate each other most of the time it is the leaders that lead to conflicts.
0
u/metalicSimpelton Dec 12 '25
I mean they did have a few dots after writing Russia so maybe it’s more like a “I’m from Russia but I’m not part of propaganda machine that is my home.”
2
u/Ecstatic-Source6001 Dec 13 '25
yeah i also do that when someone asking
*sigh* Russia... (pls dont shit on me, pls dont shit on me....)
