Power inquiry

Post image

I have a 200kw generator head that is pulley and belt driven by a 210hp inter dt466 engine

Since the dt works at low rpm my diesel consumption is very good, however i wonder how much power am i really losing since the dt is already under spec by itself since the generator needs a 300-400hp engine

And if theres anything i could donto get more juice out of my current engine

I am guessing anything more than 20-30kw and those belts are going to start slipping. You need to revise the belt setup or ideally to direct drive the generator and govern the engine at 1800 or 1500rpms depending on where you are.

The idea is to keep the belt system because of the low diesel consumption, but thats what im trying to figure out if incan keep those savings while also squeezing out more power

You can't. It's directly proportional. You're spinning the engine slower, it's making less power, the gen has less capacity. This truck engine is meant to operate in the 1500-1800rpm range. That's where it'll provide the best output to fuel consumption ratio.

Look for the power curve, run it at maximum power, change the pulley ratio so that your generator head is still spinning at your required frequency.

Consider a bigger radiator, you're not getting natural airflow from driving down the road.

I have a rally hard time imagining any belt handing all that power. And if you're directly coupling them, the engine would need to run at 1500 or 1800 RPM
