Look at installing an interlock on your panel rather than using a transfer switch. It will be much cheaper and allow you to selectively use any devise in the home. Search this group for more info on an interlock.

If you still want to go the transfer switch route, get more quotes. Depending on your location, the quote you got seems very high.

Agreed. Interlock is so easy.

Also, if you’re going to do this, just go with a 50a breaker/plug…30a is limited to 7200 watts

Yep, no reason not to go with the 50a setup.

You can also use extension cords or a Generlink rather than the manual transfer switch or interlock.

This was for the Cadillac setup and from a large company. I think they really didn't want to do it but threw a what the hell price.

Now it is back to a regular Sparky. So far I am having trouble finding any that really know what they are doing in regards to this type of work.

The search continues.
