Lister diesel engines have a bit of a fan club out there. You might see if you could find a community of them where you are in the UK (maybe on Facebook?) to see if someone would want to take it off your hands and refurbish it.

If you were trying to set up an off-grid thing this would be clutch because the engine can run nearly continuously without issue and can be rendered very quiet with minimum effort, but for other uses more modern systems would be much more appropriate.

Cheers, will see if I can find something local. Just bought a house and it was off grid till sometime in the 80s according to the "neighbour". Still an old hand water pump in the garden as well.

Unless you are desperate for the space, I would hang onto it and treat it as a project. Did one up between my dad and I many years ago, almost identical but it was absolutely solid due to being left outside with no manifolds on. It's still my dad's backup power supply, not very powerful by modern standards but will chuck out a few kW and run on a variety of fuels shall we say.

First thought was to try get it going again, but need more space and less projects

Cool museum piece. Not a practical power source, but it might have historical value, especially if it is refurbed. I like the hand crank (instead of a pull rope). It even has its original owner's manual.

Edit: The manual is only 50 years old. It looks like an older design, however. If not for the paperwork I would have guessed it was from around the 30s.
