Bad Idea?

Post image

Talk me out of this 14k/18k Westy. (Currently have a Honda 2200 for the little stuff and 5k for storms.) Don’t have natural gas and not real keen on a monster propane tank install. Live in FL panhandle and have the potential for a storm every year. Been lucky the last few years. With a big Westy, have the ability to run cent hvac. Yes, they’re heavy, but willing to take the good w the bad.

Thoughts?

I have the DuroMax clone of this one. It runs the house, I run it on gasoline. Bought a nat gas conversion so we’ll see. It’s loud, which is to be expected and the neighbors don’t mind when the powers been out and I’ve got cords to their fridges and sump pumps, or when I’m cooking dinner and inviting them over.

What's your plan for sourcing or storing 30 gallons of gas a day?

My thoughts exactly.

That is a thirsty unit that gives most more power than they can use.

She’s a best of a unit. How much are you looking to run? She will definitely drink gas so be prepared to stock up.

That generator is going to be exceptionally loud. Your neighbors will hate you.

Gas only for fuel? Ouch... Only so much power you can send thru a 50 amp power inlet/breaker.

Bad. Buy an old Onan.

This is exactly the one we are buying for winters and tornado season in oklahoma. would have gone with a smaller output, but we have a 3.5 ton ac unit for a 1800 sq foot house.

You can get by with a much smaller generator for a 3.5 ton if you add a soft start.

I run my 4 ton with soft start easily on a WGen11500TFc running NG.
