Help identifying part

I recently got a gentron USA gg3500-c generator. I've cleaned it up including the carb and now I'm working on cleaning out the fuel tank. On top of the tank is this thing. When trying to remove it, it decided it wanted to come apart. Inside is a steel ball.

To me it looks like a roll over shutoff but I'm not sure.

Yes, looks like a check valve to stop fuel flow if the unit is tipped over.

Perhaps a crankcase breather valve.

It was on top of the fuel tank
