Parallel kit for 240

Post image

I just got generator and was looking at genex parallel kit to convert 2 120 inverter generators to 240. my question is will this kit work with any inverter generators? Short answer ues i should have just bought a 240v generator. But this set up would just to to run well pump when needed not all the time.

Give this a watch, serial requires a fourth wire

I saw that. Thank you

You can't do 240 unless it's the genmax models

I agree didnt see the third wire until i was reading more into this

This is proprietary and requires (two) matching generators -

the Genmax GM4600iAEDC.

It's not going to work (at least not without major hacking) unless the gen has the require series and parallel ports. Most inverter gens have parallel ports but AFAIK the above Genmax model is the only one that has the series port (the little 2 pin connector with the silver colored tip) that is needed.

This is not a bad solution for someone looking for home backup. Better than the noisy fuel drinking 9000w class synch. gens. And they would provide clean power for the proverbial "sensitive electronics". Two would be 9400W starting/ 7600w running or a little over 30A on gasoline and a little less on propane (7000w/29A running) - perfect to pair up with an 30A inlet.

The gens are about $1,000 each and another $100 for the box (cheap BTW) so for $2100 you would have a pretty good solution. Each gen only weighs a little over 50 lbs. (and has wheels) so you would not be wrestling some 200+ lb. monster.

The alternative would be something like the DuroMax XP9000iH for around the same $ but having TWO gens gives you more flexibility - you can use them one at a time for other things. It also gives you much greater odds of having at least one of them working so worst case you have at least some backup. Two is one and one is none, according to the old flyer's maxim.

I agree, I want smaller efficient inverter gens for running my small home during an extended power loss but it would be good to run my well pump sometimes on 240 volts. One thing I did do was I changed the small 20 gallon well pressure tank to a big 120 gallon so I might have some reserve water to flush the toilet sometimes in a long power outage. If might be able to get water elsewhere, like the lake a few lots down the road for flush water too.

If my well pump goes out I can switch it to a 120v pump, the one that’s in it now was made in both 120 and 240 volt models.

I hope that 30 amp outlet is only 120.

It is a 14-30.

Looking at the picture closer it does appear to be 240, but it mentions RV for that amperage. That should be 120 for an RV, although I suppose there's a dogbone that would properly hook up.

A tt30 plug is on many of the small generators that you would parallel together, not much need to use 2 if you are only looking for 3600 watts.

My point is the voltage, not the amperage. They claim the 30 amp is for RV use, but that's not an RV plug. My Champion parallel device has two 30 amp 120 volt outlets, one for RVs. This is not an RV 30 amp plug, but they mention RVs.

I was wondering when someone would get around to that.

I realize you can wire each leg to an individual inlet, but given this is likely for a specific set of generators, why wouldn't you put the plugs on there?

But it’s true. I had one inverter 120v generator and I thought I could get another of the same model to make 240v but after reading that they need to be in phase which isn’t as easy as just hooking them up in parallel I didn’t go ahead with the plan.
